i cannot get iTunes to work consistently with my 6th gen. i've managed to get it set up a few times but i cannot for the life of me get it to work consistently, and i've borked my install a few times as well.

In Windows: I'd just remove whatever you have installed and the download directly from Apple (as a credible source) the last available revision: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win64
install it and then add to the library the folder with your music (or just drag an drop, if you want to have a separate copy of the whole music just for iTunes use).
If your Windows installation is not riddled with other general issues it usually works like charm.

i tried that recently and it didn't recognize my iPod at all
straight up didn't detect it
i more than likely ultraborked it last time i tried to install altstore

just in case - try to check it in another computer to make sure it is just your windows setup/state
