I don't think touches can charge over FireWire
Should I buy a firewire cable for my iPod? [iPod 4G Mono]
i believe so
it should charge from dead over USB
do you have a dumb charger (apple 5 watt works)
i attempt to charge it but it just bootloops but reads at charging
but I can tell you sometimes they just Don't.
(context: it died on the charger lol)
put it in diags mode and pick the "CHGR" test
leave it like that for half an hour or so then come back
how do i do that?
from powered off, hold centre and rewind
the apple logo will flash backwards and it'll say "iram pass press play"
then use the forward/back buttons to select the charging test, pick the USB one
gotcha
while you're in here (let it charge first though) you can also check the HDD SMART data
what now?
see if it gets to the menu, check the HDD health if you want
to get out press play, then scroll up to "reset" and pick that
am i supposed to wait for it to finish or back out manually?
back out manually
I think if you leave it on there it'll just keep charging and won't leave that screen even when it's full
HDD R/W?
oh that's the one that is
a full surface scan
leave it plugged in
i mean i did
it's
dont see anything named with HDD TEST
ah
gotcha
ideal numbers for reference
does it show a magnifying glass or something
RETRACTS
4659
no reallocated sectors or pending sectors though?
nope
just out of curiosity how scuffed up is that pod
retracts are typically G sense events if I'm interpreting my data right
kinda scuffed
wdym
drive should be alright
gotcha
ie freefall protection
sometimes you get them from power loss though
if you select reset does it throw a low battery instantly
hitting reset makes it boot, say its charging, and then it'll just power off and bootloop +etc
weird
does it do that plugged into a PC?
as 4th gens are kind of annoying with their chargers
oh then it might connect to your PC and stay on
potentially
it does appear as a storage device on my pc
though do be wary im not using a windows computer
hopefully.
i still need to get an itunes solution that isnt just cracking open a spare windows 10 install
you know lots of Linux apps have iPod support right
I use foobar2000 because I'm on windows but iirc rhythmbox supports ipod?
heard about that one
i'll check it out again
when is it gonna... stop saying do not disconnect
when you eject it
its not mounted
oh it'll just uh
yeah it just says that
you can unplug it whenever if it's not mounted
ah
apple was very anally retentive about ejecting your disks though because hfs+ ipods need it
and also because itunes touches the database like. whenever it wants
gotcha
even fat32 disks on macos say "WAHHHHHHHHHH YOU NEED TO EJECT DISKS YOU MIGHT HAVE LOST DATA WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" shut UP it's fat32
lol
so i can probably just unplug it now?
and to confirm its probably just a stupid battery? @devout scroll
fuck nvm it just died
if it tried to spin the disk that would do it
do you have like, a dumb wall charger (one that just puts out 5v1a)
SWI at 7270040 (0)
pc:7270040 sp:000e2360
bt end
oh you're running rockbox aren't you
shouldn't make much of a difference though
if you boot it into stock (hold switch on) and put it on a wall charger does it stay on?
menu and centre
partially yeah
attempting to play a song lets it well
attempt to play a song
then it will crash shortly after
so yeah uh new battery order is def in place
yeah that battery sounds cooked
