A little less than a week ago, I replaced the frontplate, click wheel, and center button on my iPod 5.5 Video. Just today, the center button stopped working, and the black foam pad and the under-layer of Kapton tape securing it moved out of place. I am assuming it's from loose adhesive. I've seen other instances on this sub of this happening to people, but just the black, foam pad slipped out of place, not both the pad and the piece of tab. For me, it is both.

Do you have any suggestions for properly adhering both into place? Would I need a full replacement button, or could I stick it down with electrical tape? Would the tape need to be Kapton tape, or would a small square of vinyl electrical tape be fine?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

If the metal clicky part is OK, just use the correct size and amount of kapton tape (or any other tape you have available that sticks well enough and it not too thick).
Originally they used some kind of kapton tape. Electrical tape might be too thick as it serves a different main purpose - electrical insulation not thermal and mechanical stabilization. But it might work well enough if only the glue sticks it in place.

Boosting this again. I replaced the tape, and the replacement worked briefly this afternoon. Went to turn on the iPod again this evening and the center button isn’t working again. The grounding tab was in the right place. Any other fixes in mind, or help?

Did you clean the "clicker" to make sure it will make good contact? With IPA or any other cleaning substance like this?
