I should also mention it does the same thing when I put it into disk mode, it just charges. it's a very strange issue I haven't really seen before and I'm hoping I don't have to replace the charging connector.

does your computer recognise that the ipod is connected?

It can be as usual:
- Windows (lack of drivers)
- if not recognized at all (no USB bell in Windows) - faulty cable
- Faulty connector
- Issues with ipod (check hdd status in the diags) - does the ipdo work normally (you did not say).
