ipod touch 2nd gen only works on charger

hey so ive recently obtained an ipod touch 2nd gen from my dad (he found it at work), and i wanted to test it for days, so i managed to obtain a charger, but somehow the device does not work when it is off the cord. even though it does show a full battery icon and it is charging. it works and functions well on the cord but when i unplug it, it turns off entirely and does not power on.

if it helps my case any better, ive also noticed when restarting that it reset the clock to december 31st 1969 (this was before i erased all data on it) so idk whats going on

ill probably see if charging for a good while and calibrating the battery will work, but for now if all fails id like to know if theres a detected problem and solution if possible

nevermind, definitely a battery issue, ill see if i can save up a bit of moola for a repair or 4th gen
