#Dead battery or iPod just confused?

I have a 30 GB iPod 5.5 gen and I fired it up again for the first time in 3 years yesterday. It's working fine most of the time but after “fully charging” it earlier it died after about 5 minutes. It then proceeded to boot loop for the next hour. I was wondering whether this was just the iPod being confused about how much charge it had or whether it needs a new battery. I'm also worried about the battery exploding since I remember my iPhone 6 had an expanded battery which pushed the screen out one time after I charged it for the first time in years.

It seems to be holding a charge as well as it used to but still not sure whether it’s the best idea to keep using it. Is it fine to keep using or should I leave it alone until I can find a replacement battery?

charge and discharge the battery fully 3-4 times. If the battery will last very shortly - just exchange it. It if works anyhow acceptable for you - just continue using it.

You just need to be careful that it should not bulge.
