Hello, i recently bought an ipod 5.5 gen 4 days ago, but i put it in my pocket with my magnetic wallet and the hard drive killed itself. Luckily i was able to restore the os, but the drive won’t speak to anything. So i went to elite obsolete’s store to find a drive and i saw one for 2 dollars, so i was wondering if anyone knew if that would be a functional drive at that price or if it serves some kind of other purpose

Yes, they are, but if you are going through the trouble of opening it, I would flash mod it. Get the better, faster, and more reliable storage. If you are dead set on the drive, the 2 dollar ones work fine.

The foam really isn't necessary, it's just a precaution really. As long as you have the rubber bumpers you're fine.

I just took a peek inside mine (whoever replaced the batt did a poor job opening it, i can open the front case with my fingernail) and the procedure seems really easy, so once the drive comes in i’ll be good to go hopefully 🤞
