my 3rd gen was having issues with the hard drive and not booting properly, so I formatted it. After formatting it, it does not boot and only shows the Apple logo and a folder with an exclamation point. I can not restore it through iTunes, because I do not have a computer with FireWire 400. Is there anything else I can do?

You don’t need a computer with FW to restore. You can charge it fully w a FW power brick, then connect to computer with USB. Work fast cause it’s then running off its battery power. Restore over USB. At some stage it’ll say to disconnect from computer and plug (back) into FW brick, do that, then you should be good to go 👍
