#iPod 7th Gen Games?
93 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
if it’s a classic 7 (not a nano 7), @upbeat viper has offered in the past to add the games if you ship him your iPod
@upbeat viper how do you do it? im not willing to ship my iPod away
👁️
I have the auths for two different itunes accounts that have games on them, so I use my own machine with that auth to add games onto other people’s iPods as the accounts are not mine to share
I only ever really ask people to cover shipping at least since I’d otherwise loose money on it
idk
Which assuming you are from the US it’s like $5-10 average
I’m not going anywhere so up to you ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’ve tried looking into remote usb applications but all of them are painfully slow and I usually leave the VM I have with the auths offline since iTunes likes to randomly remove them and doing the manual backup of the auth login file is annoying
I know some people are looking into cracks for them but idk if they’ll go anywhere, I only know at a surface level what ties the games to an iPod (serial and an extra auth file)
can i buy / download the games onto the iPod? the games are probobally conciderd abandonware by now
The click wheel game store has been down since 2011 so unfortunately there’s no way to buy them anymore
You need to auth them as they are not currently cracked except for the 20 original ones that releases for the 5th Gen
Here’s a guide I wrote a while back
How to add the custom cracked game firmware and the cracked games onto a 5/5.5 gen iPod on Windows and Mac
Before starting you will need the following:
- iPod Wizard (for Windows users)
- iPodEditor (for Mac users)
- iTunes
- Modified iPod firmware bin for 1.2.1 (5 or 5.5 gen) (Note: some custom firmwares have this crack built in, but only the standard one will be attached in this guide)
- Cracked clickwheel Game files
- Stock firmware 1.2.1 for 5 or 5.5 gen (optional)
Find the downloads in the following drive folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AvcYxtNeRY9V6Upf8olc6h1_6Lujy7s2?usp=sharing
Note: This first step is optional but has reportedly caused the cracked firmware to exhibit less bugged features.
- Open iTunes and plug in your iPod. Navigate to the menu displaying info about your iPod and hold Shift (Windows) or Option (Mac) while pressing Restore iPod and select the ispw file for 1.2.1
For Windows Users:
- Run iPodWizard as admin and switch it to "Firmware File" and click "Open Firmware". Select the cracked firmware bin from file explorer.
- Click "Write to iPod" and it will write it to the iPod
- Navigate to iTunes and make sure your iPod has "Enable Disk Usage" selected in the iPod menu.
- Make sure to enable hidden folders in Windows and navigate to iPod_Control within your iPod in file explorer. Create a folder called Games_RO and paste all of the game files there
- You can now eject your iPod from your computer and play all of the cracked games!
For Mac Users:
(Note: this only works on macOS Mojave and below due to 32-bit support)
- You have to run iPodEditor as sudo. For instructions on running an app on mac as sudo, read here: https://www.wikihow.com/Open-Applications-With-Root-Privileges-on-a-Mac
- Run iPodEditor. When the prompts come up to install ImageMagick say yes, but it will fail then let you proceed to the application.
- Click "Open Firmware" and select the cracked games bin file within Finder. Then click Click "Write Firmware"
- Once finished, go into iTunes and select "Enable Disk Usage" for your iPod.
- Make sure your Mac has hidden folders enabled. Navigate to "iPod_Control" and create a folder called "Games_RO". Paste all of the game files there
- You can now eject your iPod from your computer and play all of the cracked games!

Is there any way to re-download previously purchased clickwheel games?
Oh hey sorry I missed your DM, there isn’t as far as I’m aware of
no worries lol
Once the store went down any way to redownload them went too
I was talking with apple support a week ago and they said there might be a way. but I'd need to have my ipod connected.
The ipod I ordered at the time was still in transit.
I have my ipod now though, so I might give them a call again to follow up on the case number and see if there actually is some black magic wizardry that can work.
If so, I'll update on here as well.
If there is a way that would be insanely helpful
Very interested to see how that goes 😳
It helps that I was able to find the purchase order number from my account
Update per my talk with Apple support: to their knowledge, iPod clickwheel games are no longer hosted on apples servers, so they unfortunately can't be re-downloaded/installed by official means even if previously purchased. 🙃
Yup sounds about right
💔
My next avenues, for which I have minimal expectation:
- Contact the developers directly (e.g. Harmonix for Phase) to see if they could somehow help in any way
- See if there's a way to re-authorize the existing dumps of the game from the original dumper
crayolamike@hotmail.comto associate with the purchase from my Apple ID
I also managed to track down the iTunes link for Phase.
However, this link now (unsurprisingly) only results in an error.

I've created a post on the Apple Discussion forums detailing my efforts thus far.

I just sent you a DM to see if you are willing to help out!
@upbeat viper got my ipod ready to send! Just DM me a mailing address whenever you are able to help out. Thanks again!
eyy, another tamagotchi fan 🤝
hell yeah!!!!
good taste. also your pfp is impeccable

did you buy the games on your AppleID
I have an idea you can test for this
- Turn ipg file to zip
- open zip u should see a iTunesMetaData file, open with notepad++
- replace the email in it with yours or just blank it out, make sure to copy paste it
- turn zip back to ipg
- drag and drop modified ipg to iTunes
- ??? see if u can sign in that way
I feel like there works be some issue with cipher keys being mismatched or something, but I'll try giving it a shot.
lemme know if it works id be suprised if it does
