im pretty confident the jack itself isn't the issue but tracing down the hold/jack assembly to the connector on the motherboard, if I wiggle that it pauses. I've tried fixing this software-side by switching to rock box, but i don't really like the ui of it (plus super slow buffering). not sure if i need a new assembly or if its an issue with the motherboard connector.
