I just received my iPod classic 3rd generation, restored it and put my own music in its, however, when I play the song it does work but after a random time it freezes and I have to reset the iPod to get it to work again, at one point when I reset it, it told me dead drive but then booted to the Home Screen. I’m thinking dying drive?

Maybe. Try the convert music to 256kbps aac option in iTunes and report back if it's still doing it

What I’m thinking is that when the ram runs out and the iPod asks the hard drive for more information the drive isn’t giving the iPod that information

How many songs are on there?

The computer that had my music on it died

so I had to start over

Yeah, 41 songs is fine. Shouldn't overload the ram

So if the typical troubleshooting doesn't work its probably a wonky drive or motherboard. I would try converting the music through, sometimes it doesn't like certain formats for whatever reason.
