This was loose in the IPod. Charging only via Firewire. No data transfer possible.

Haha, you are a great help. 😉 I am looking for a new part. Unfortunately, I don't know what it's called. Actually I just want to buy the part. Solder it and be done with it. In case of need, I have another board here, with a different error, otherwise I solder that off from the board there.

It might be some sort of resettable fuse or optoisolator, or esd prevention thing
