#Since this patch (March 10), FPS drops, stuttering/pausing while playing.

Prior to this Unity upgrade, on max settings I was averaging 90-165FPS in Eltibule. Now it's under 40l. But even with adjustments, it's still not much over that, and worse - the game 'stutters' regardless of what I am doing.

I'd best describe it as a hitching. Every action 'hitches'. Even riding around with nobody near, hitching. It's not playable for me anymore. I'm on a fairly reasonable system. (Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 4070 GTX). Drivers all updated. Like I said - it ran like glass before.

Same for me. Much lower system (1070ti) but ran very well before this. Stutter/hitching is exactly as described - no FPS issues, just the hitching.

Steam Deck user, game ran very well before update. After update Eltibule and especially Serbule are so low fps it's near unplayable, it also seems like grass texture is visible at extreme distances and through other terrain. Sun Vale seems to run just fine still though.

Adding my +1 to this, 4070Ti/Ryzen 9 3900X. Also, this is not a fix, but helped me get back to an almost playable frame rate outside of town. I also lowered some other settings. The performance is much, much worse after the patch though.

Special Settings:
Maxactiveloads=10
ForceCheapShadows
Playeranimationcutoff=20

P.S. Turning down the grass draw distance helped a lot.
P.P.S. Night time looks amazing now though!

My personal +1 on a much lower system (RX 580 and with the disclaimer that I always use Graphics 3 and I always had the Special Settings mentioned just before)

It had a VERY hard time loading it (loading bar phase, I logged off at Serbule in the city) to the point it lagged my entire PC and it did so again while re-entering from Hills, to the point it pushed me to a Reconnection and back to Hills twice before I could actually enter (such things didn't happen before)

Interestingly enough though while at Serbule, the FPS seemed the same low-ish (around 30~40) while inside the city BUT when leaving it, specially going down (to hills/after stalls) it had a massive stutter and FPS drop, a huge dip that got better and almost went back to 60 after a while but still unstable and with the mentioned "hitches" it's literally some hiccups, every now and then...

Looks amazing though! Love the new textures and stuff like the bridges and I was able to see some of it at night, it's very nice

Try setting Grass Draw Distance and Grass Draw Density as low as they'll go, in Settings > Graphics > Advanced > Terrain

And if that helps please let me know!

I've found this helps

As a seperate change turning Shadow Distance down to 0 (while leaving the grass settings at default) has also helped

very low specs here; my framerate didn't change (was already on low settings) but the hitching is unbearable. outdoor combat is probably not an option for me.

My frames went from 140 to 30 OUTSIDE of Serbule Keep. I have an i7-14700F and 5070. Made all the changes and it made no difference in FPS

dropping to 15fps in Serbule. was 100+ before the update. many other players are running in place and my horse slides instead of galloping.

I'm sure they'll push out an update or something to fix this issue.

Stuttering after last patch is killing me. 9950X3D + 5090. Everything was smooth until last patch πŸ™

Same here. Getting 170 FPS in open world with tearing & FPS drops everywhere. Had 240 FPS smooth before until now. 5070 Ti, AMD Ryzen 7800X3D & 32GB DDR5

#

No setting seems to fix this. Shadows are still on 0 (like before)

Not saying I have resolved it 100%, but I think the hitching is coming down to nameplates... I just shut off all nameplates (GUI > Nameplates > Names) and the hitching is significantly reduced. Where it starts to run into issues still is areas where nameplates cant be avoided such as the Lamps, Meditation Pillars, and when people drop 100 items on the ground.

edit: Hard to validate, could just be a luck thing

about same I have huge fps drops in serbule and it's 100% related to this parameter

the difference between "Texture Memory Restriction 0" and "Texture Memory Restriction 6" was not like this before this patch

jb thanks for giving a tip ill try it πŸ˜„ tried like all the sliders in game fps is fine is just the stutter hitching is really annoying

Also have hitching and stuttering in Elt and Serb. Tried shadows to 0 and grass to 0. Much better before patch πŸ™

misty rock
#

Same, lots of fps issues. Tried everything i can think of, managed to get it to a semi playable state but Serb is still pretty bad. I got a relatively new mid range gaming computer. The new graphics at ultra looked amazing but i pretty much have to turn it all off to play. Even then i stutter every now and then randomly, this did not happen before.

Newest Patch (March 11) - All hitching/stuttering is gone for me now
Removed the Grass limitations entirely (and Tree limitations) and still pulling 47FPS in Serb Well on Great graphics.
Nameplates are still off outside of NPCs and Interactable Objects.

I only have hitching issues on ultra graphics. Turned down to amazing is fine. Trying to figure out why

#

How's the patch was for you guys? I still feel the performance is worse than before πŸ™

#

And stuttering

shy atlas
#

After today for me, stutters and hitches were pretty much gone, load is also smoother
BUT performance still took a huge hit compared to before, my FPS now is sometimes worse OUTSIDE the city than inside on Serbule.. that is how much Grass is still tanking my FPS (I still have to adjust them to lowest to not be stuck at 30~40fps around Serbule, whereas inside it actually went to 40~50, better than it ever was so I'd say the optimizations for city/players are doing well at least)

Suprisingly enough I also seemed laggier on some dungeons (goblin one for me) but maybe it's just a different issue or a me issue I haven't noticed before as not really related to the patches

All cleared up for me. A-OK.

NVIDIA:

  1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel.
2.Go to Manage 3D Settings and turn off "Shader Cache".
    3.Restart your PC.
4.Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and delete the NVIDIA folder.
5.Navigate to %LOCALAPPDATA%\NVIDIA Corporation\NV_Cache and delete its contents.
6.Turn "Shader Cache" back on in the Control Panel.
    AMD:
1.Locate the cache folder, typically in %LOCALAPPDATA%\AMD.
2.Clear the contents to remove stored shader data.
You can also search/find disk cleanup and make sure shader cache is checked then run it to clean the remainder Shader cache

If this game gets some good financial success right now with all the new players. Priority should not be content but optimisation

charred quarry
#

I get pretty good optimization usually have to clear cache every few patches I changed my dns server to googles which help a lot ...most people use cloudfare ....I've heard success from using a VPN if you have bad routing to server I dont have a super powerful pc and run on amazing preset 20-45 fps in cities outside of cities 75-90 dungeons 165
Pc spec.
Ryzen 7 5700g
Rtx 3060 12gb
32gb ram
Maybe some of those options will help but they are still a small indy team im sure theyre focusing on optimization though imo there so much content im not even worried about content haha

#

I tell you anther thing that helped on my nvidia control panel for PG I turned off threaded optimization too

tropic gate
# molten niche Still getting a lot of hitching for me :/

Slight hitching in Serb today for me. Also getting lots of graphical glitches - today - for some reason, including ridiculously bright rendering.. It's unbearable. Sadly. I think I am going to have to take a break until a patch addresses.

molten niche
#

I've always had a brightness issue in some areas, but the hitching is pretty bad. NPCs becoming interactable sometimes takes a while too still

Hitching is making the game really un fun especially when you're trying to do horse racing

fierce iron
#

Completely closing the game helps some when it gets really bad. It still happens, but Ive noticed when its severe a full game close and restart makes it a lot better for a few hours

north heath
fierce iron
#

Maybe, I dont know technical stuff like that very much but it would track for other games that people say have memory leak problems

north heath
#

That said though, makes me feel less crazy. Saturday night I went full goblin mode and played for like 9 hours straight. Started seeing oddities in game (minor hitching, graphic issues, delays/lag despite having a 18 ping, etc.) When I attempted to shut down the game it took 15+ minutes and Steam still said it was running. I had to hard-reboot the PC to get everything reset.

actually in the march 10-update: Windows: using the /wiki command in-game now opens the browser in a way that doesn't cause Steam to think your browser is a part of Project: Gorgon. (This could cause your Steam game time to be inflated, because Steam counted the time your browser was open even after the game was closed.)

north heath
#

To answer the question though: Yes - to be safe I had closed everything. No 'active' programs running

#

Not saying Windows didn't try some tricky crap where it left something opened in memory and it just so happened to be the wiki -- with my luck that was the case lol. But since then I've been hesitant to play for too long of a period.

vital sorrel
#

Can confirm that the game gets wonky after running for several (5-8+) hours. Graphical glitches when changing zones leading to extreme lighting happens all the time when leaving long casino sessions =D.

Memory usage at this point is only a bit under 7 gigs, but there's definitely noticable hitching when scooting around. Game restart does fix it.

north heath
#

So wait, I'm not crazy?! Feels like a big life milestone for me kek

vital sorrel
#

No you're not crazy. Especially when you start dipping from your typical fps levels into barely double digits when looking at the same exact things you had been for hours beforehand πŸ˜„

#

I think it's a less tested thing since it only really occurs after long sessions.

molten niche
fierce iron
vital sorrel
#

I can't speak on this. I know I have/had things like shadow distance at absolute 0 even before the unity update and the recent hitching issues on my end.

#

but it sounds like you might need to manually adjust some settings rather than just going by the graphic presets.

I've tried all sorts of setting combinations but to no avail πŸ˜”
