Levelling lycan / psych and I keep forgetting to use my psychology abilities and not getting XP for it. Tagging mobs once every so often with the other skill that I don't need to use, just so I get XP feels like extra inputs and attention I don't need to be doing. It's starting to get really grating when I see the log and that I didn't get XP in that class, happens a lot.
#Please give combat xp to both active skills regardless of whether you use their ability

Just removing this without any further changes would allow people to level while fully AFK, with the help of a group or a combat pet. I don't think that's a good idea.
The timer to get XP in a skill is 60 seconds, just use whatever random ability from the other skill every minute and you're good
You can also use healing abilities, as those DO count. Psych has a few.
This change would make power leveling so trivial. It would also not make much sense with the XP change from various level monsters
I'd argue that if you are never using Psychology, then perhaps another skill would be a better pair with Lycan.
Gotta use the skill to level it. That's kinda integral to the vast majority of leveling in the game.
If you don't want to even use the skill, why worry about leveling it?
With afk protections, I totally understand that, but there's surely a better way to protect from afk leveling. If people are going to afk level I assume they're smart enough to set up a macro or something to skirt around this.
In regards to "why level it if you're not using it", my psy is only 30, does not much damage or utility at this level, lycan outstrips it 5x. But I heard it's very strong later. I guess the real fix to this would be making all combat skills impactful at all levels but that's a never ending monumental task.
Anyway, if this doesn't change, you'll still have people pressing their weaker skill button every 60 seconds, then abandoning it, leading to wasted time & inputs. This kind of play cannot be intended design. Don't take my solution for granted or as the actual solution, more just helping highlight the issue.
Given your cd on attacks and power needs of lycan I could imagine using at least psyc basic attack regularly will be a great help for you. Also, the attacks not being strong is probably more a matter of the mods not being there to enable it's true power.
One big advantage of using both skills is, that you experience the pros and cons of different attacks/ buffs and can figure out, what feels right for you and what not. Everyone has a different playstyle, every dungeon or mob has different aspects to it that might make one skill's specific attack much more useful than in other situations.
I like leveling a new skill in all sorts of dungeons and levels, so I learn what it is really good for. In some places I am overpowered with my strong skill, of course, but still getting the feel for it more and more.
Yeah, I can kind of see what you're saying, that some skills are more treasure effect dependent than say lycan which just rips out the gate at low levels. I wish there was more incentive to collect multiple gear sets (like a Wardrobe skill with separate inventory to grind) but yeah, inventory in dungeons is limited.
Totally true as well, some areas you need different builds to shine or even do damage.
Building more dedicated gear sets than just my main is something I'll get to, at the moment my main S&S armor tank set is too good for power leveling other skills (damage immune in most encounters 1-40), which is part of the problem. Maybe its the dissonance between having twink power leveling sets and properly building treasure effects with alt builds / managing inventory space with multiple gear sets.
I'm probably the outlier here, I've flagged it, can't do more than that. Last thought would be that it could be good to cater to different players, skill levels and playstyles as long as it doesn't erode the core pillars or gameplay, even though PG is a niche game, this is primarily where I was coming from with my initial issue. Peace
