An horizontal compass (or whatever the name is) that shows cardinal directions for instance would help. POIs icons would be sweet, but just the cardinal directions would be more than enough.

I would love to see some improvement to the map, but I don't know what I think it needs, because I have no idea what MY issue actually is. I just have zero sense of direction in this game, no idea why since I never had such trouble on any other MMO maps.

Notice the zoom level. Just one step away from full zoom out.
That's not usable.
Here's the next zoom level. I understand that PC players are fixated on having incredibly small fonts/UI/details, but at this point it's not much bigger than the actual mini-map in the corner!
