Bolt and Lancaster fill the same exact role: medium range longarm. Could swap one or the other for a carcano for long range, or pump action shotgun for close range
As for cards, Strange Medicine, Eye For An Eye and Fool Me Once is a solid choice of passives for any deadeye ability you want to use.
there's still plenty of encounters that you can benefit from just sitting out of range of enemies. and for close range, well given that any kind of bullet staggers enemies, shotguns aren't necessarily super valuable in pve. That said, it can still be very effective to just run in and blast things away in one shot.
But as I said, bolt and lancaster are redundant in combat. can simply just swap to the bolt when you want to hunt and swap to something else when doing combat stuff

horse combat is riskier. safer to stay behind cover and pop-out and shoot\
pump lets you kill anything closing in on you when in cover, very easily
dont necessarily need to stick yourself to cover. just place your character behind it.
pause > player > and then look around somewhere in the stats? perhaps there's a health submenu? somewhere in there you can hover over and it'll tell you how to raise health.
