#Saline Vs. The World (Of Pokemon)

As far as I'm aware you can't change the cover image of these posts, so I'm just making a new one and copying over last week's clear
[From last week]
This was a fun week! I’ve been sitting on an EX’d Candice forever just waiting for a good excuse to use her, and while she required a lot of babysitting from her supports, she was able to close out what a lot of people were calling the hardest fight of the week.
Pretty tough week overall though, it took a lot of parameter, team and strategy tweaks to pull through. I like that, though— sometimes CS feels like a cakewalk otherwise. Phoebe wound up being a frantic race to not die to her insane pre-sync setup, which was fun to plan around.
For this week, I had planned on holding off until I had both Ash and Cynthia in my pocket before taking it on. The Lusamine comp I used against Sidney might seem a little weird, but I’ve used her to take him down before— she gets a lot of sync BP nodes, which in my opinion makes her an underrated powerhouse.
Hardest fight was Drake, and all he took was a swap from Bugsy to Hilbert to enable the faster inertia buff over beating the defense gimmick. Everything else kinda melted, to the point where I could throw basically anything I wanted at Phoebe and Glacia with the two new masters. They’re both really fun!
Not a very creative week for me this week, I mostly just wanted to try out some new or buffed units. Cynthia feels great after her buffs, and watching Red completely step on Caitlin was pretty funny. I hope they add higher difficulty levels at some point, I’d love to see the older CS regions catch up to how tough the new ones are.
Another easy week, it’s pretty clear how badly Unova got left in the dust. At least I got to use some of my favorite units, I picked up SC Hilda from the war games scout last week and I was eager to give her a shot. Also got to double up with Lusamine and Candice, who are both units I really like using.
“Boy, the 10ks for these older regions are really easy” said Saline, the fool, using three master fairs. Maybe I’ll do gimmick runs instead when it’s an older region.
On this week’s episode of 10k CSMM:
I AM ALL CYNTHIA
ALL THE TIME
I was originally gonna do sinnoh only alongside that but my sinnoh roster really isn't good, so I needed to sub in from other regions. The only battle where I felt like Cynthia was just an add to an existing comp was during Grimsley, as SSCynthia is really bad and I was struggling a lot to make her work
fr SS Cynthia is very underwhelming
I am crossing my fingers for her grid update 🤞
I’m not holding my breath lol, especially considering that dragon def doesn’t need any help
Figured I’d do a no-master-fair monotype for this week’s 10k. In the face of that, the only fight that gave me any real trouble was Lorelei, and that was mostly because electric’s support pool is a little lacking. I mean, sure, I could’ve just used N or dropped the master rule and used Ash or Red, but I wanted to use Elesa and that was a hill I was willing to die on, lol. Everything else was either first try or only needed brief parameter shifts
I’m… gonna be honest, I completely forgot Nita is technically a master unit LOL
the BP masters are so far away from gacha masters in terms of power that it’s easy to forget they actually are masters at all
Late, but I did 10k duos no masters (for real this time) for this week. Agatha was a big problem, but Lance and Blue certainly put in the effort to be problems this week. The parameters helped a lot, especially the field effect one— freeing up my supports to keep the dream alive instead of refreshing weather was super critical.
I've been making more of an effort to use Leaf/Eevee lately, and I gotta say I was sleeping on this unit big time
the buffs aren't fantastic but one bar flinch, potions, gauge and a little bit of everything on a support EX sync can go a surprisingly long way
10k for the week, went with a monotype run since I really wanted an excuse to put Fall Iris and Plumeria on a CSMM team together, and that comp definitely needs a third member to work. Blue was still the hardest (due in no small part to Plumeria lacking crit buffs), but Bruno gave me some trouble too. I mean, sure, I could have just wiped the floor with him using Archie, but I just EX’d Nessa and wanted to try her out. Fun week overall, getting to use Plumeria like that was pretty nice after failing to find a purpose for her for so long.
Plumeria honestly has a pretty good sync, I might try her down the road with a more appropriate support
10k monotype this week, nothing fancy— I’ve been busy and just wanted to squeak out a W while I have time. I’ve been looking for a good excuse to EX Guzma, and needing a bug striker that can get buffs from a monotype team turned out to be just that. Lusamine is still my preferred for bug stuff, but Guzma’s always been a favorite and I wanted to give him a real shot
huge fan of how every time red gets power crept in some way he just gets a new alt that breaks the game
Late, but I settled on duos for this week’s 10k. Agatha decided to be a war crime this week, but that’s partially due to my only invested (and good) ice pairs being Candice and Lusamine, neither of which function well in duos. They just need too much help to work. Wasn’t much of a problem otherwise, I think this was the first time I ever used steel SS Giovanni instead of Gloria for a steel weak.
10k for the week. Sinnoh’s here, which means my priority shifts from “do fun challenges” to “fight for survival.” This week honestly wasn’t too bad, I probably could’ve gotten away with not using SS Kris at the end for the no master fair clear but I wanted to use Plumeria with proper buffs. Guzma continues to pull his weight way better than I expected, happy I went for that EX.
Another desperate fight for survival in this week’s 10k. Having finally pulled Fall Caitlin, I got to experience a “permanent effects” run with her and it’s very funny how much she sets up for the team. Also the first time I’ve paired Courtney with Cynthia, which led to a downright comical amount of damage. Standard stuff otherwise, Sinnoh is a rough CS for sure.
10k was easier than I expected this week. My liberal use of master fairs probably helped, but I was expecting Bertha and Aaron to be more troublesome. I think the parameters this week were a big part of it— for every fight, there was a parameter that could counter it. I like Sinnoh’s CS— I don’t need to do challenge runs for it to be difficult at all.
On this week’s episode of 10k CSMM: C L O N E S
I wanted to do a full clone run in honor of the restriction being lifted, but Sinnoh CSMM is hard so I compromised and bumped my rule down to “2 or more clones per team”
Brings a smile to my face to see I’m not the only one who thought of Skyla and Skyla to cause some chaos.
I really wish I had her holiday alt for this lol
anni skyla has a hard time buffing herself but she also barely needs to because her nuke is insane anyway
What’s her nuke commonly hit at?
usually if I have her speed, spatk and crit maxed, and I have a flying zone up against a flinched or confused target, I'll see anywhere between 15-30k on first sync depending on the battle
it's a really easy nuke to set up for how many modifiers it gets-- she gets inertia, interference sync, sync power up on flying zone (on top of just, y'know, flying zone) and EX tech sync
No Master Fair run for this week’s 10k. I would’ve done another clone run, but I have a contractual obligation to run Lusamine on any special-prone bug weak stage, so this is where I landed. I also used this chance to use some pairs I don’t often use, like Kris, Hala and Lodge Elesa. Tough battles, but nothing too crazy.
Another no Master Fair for this 10k, I guess. I’ve been pretty busy this week so I’m mostly just squeezing this clear in, but I could see this being a doable duos week. I love using Fall Caitlin for infinite effect stages, you get so much ridiculous stuff on your side so fast and it’s amazing lol
Nothing crazy for this week’s 10k, just wanted to get it done. I did get to use some units I normally don’t, I had no idea Karen was so good after her buff
Happy new year! Got an odd 10k here squeezed in at the last second. Basically, it’s duos with the stipulation that I need to have a master fair in each team, and the other unit needs to be from the same region. Weirdly specific, but I chose that mostly as an excuse to use my master fairs, and I feel like Hoenn is hard enough to justify using them. Most weren’t too bad, but Sidney and Steven did give me some trouble.
Monotype for this week’s 10k, I was going to do duos but Koga was taking years off of my life. Building my comp for Bruno was pretty fun, but this was a pretty standard week otherwise. I did have fun mowing Will and Lance down with loads of master fairs though lol
Another monotype 10k, mostly so I could have an excuse to run some of my crept units like Guzma and Karen. This is actually also the first time I’ve ever used Sonia, as I hadn’t pulled her until recently— I get the hype.
Went with duos for this week’s 10k. Will was by far the hardest, I was determined to use Plumeria but her buffing is bad and Will hits really hard. It felt SO good to finally pull that one off
Rest wasn’t too bad, I threw a bunch of actually good units out so most of them folded. Karen did give me a little trouble though, if I didn’t hit the quad (triple?) queue I wouldn’t have been able to win
Just a boring old on-type monotype for this week’s 10k. I’ve got some important stuff going on in my life right now and CSMM hasn’t been front and center in my mind during my downtime, so I figured I’d go for something simple. And simple this was, the only one I had to retry at all was Koga and all it took there was changing my timing on Glacia’s TM and noble roaring a little more before shifting to glaciate.
wait crap it’s sunday I need to do my 10k
Went with duos this week since Kalos is imminent and I’m sure it’s going to be brutal. I was very happy to make Karen, Korrina and Zinnia work— it’s always fun to revisit some of these older, less powerful units and pull off challenge runs with them
Weekly who cares it’s type grinding week you can’t even do fun challenges
Ok good, type grinding is over. Weekly 10k, did a monotype and seriously overkilled it. I was expecting something as hard as Sinnoh or Hoenn, but this was honestly pretty easy. Ah well, at least Kalos got some of the best E4 themes in the game.
Shout out to Lodge Dawn, with her grid she's able to perfectly slot into my bug monotype comps that run Lusamine. Previously, I basically had to use Guzma or Alder in bug monotypes, but with grid, Lodge Dawn can give Lusamine the last crit buff she needs and max sp.atk. As an added bonus, she gets some nodes to heal and accelerate the gauge in a bug zone. I definitely only gridded her for the exact comp I used her in, but I'm just happy to be able to viably monotype with Lusamine now.
Monotype duos for this week’s 10k. This was actually a really tough one even with the master fairs, it felt like Wikstrom was the only one who didn’t have some hugely problematic parameter or move. Malva was definitely the hardest, I had to reset a lot before I could finally manage to take her down.
The reward at the end, though, was definitely getting to test drive Emma. I was holding off until datamine, but I’m only interested in the lati duo rerun next month, so I went for her. She goes absolutely nuts, super fun unit for a super good character.
Late night 10k duos for great justice. Drasna was a nightmare this week— even with two master fairs, it took a lot of experimenting to get a pre-sync kill on her and avoid instant death from the sides. Obviously I could’ve just dropped duos, but where’s the fun in that?
Duos for this week’s 10k, honestly not much to go over here. Unova’s pretty easy, though I did use C.Bede where it doesn’t really make sense to use him just because I really wanted to try him out in CSMM. He’s really fun! I was using him for my BV sweeper team (C.Bede, P.Elesa, SC!Lillie) too and it’s really nice getting effectively infinite buffs.
Did clones for this week’s 10k, mostly for a laugh. The Serena and Cynthia runs were absurdly easy, these two have gotten some insane alts lol
Unova mono-region for this week’s 10k. This was actually a really cool challenge! It’s the first mono-region I’ve ever done, and it got me to pull out some units I otherwise never use like SS Grimsley and both Rosas. I’ll definitely do more of these.
Quickly banging out a monotype 10k here, not much of note other than Bede and Anni May making my psychic monotype comp a lot easier
Weekly 10k12.5k, no gimmick this time around. 12.5k feels weirdly… easier? I think it’s because you can now make a choice between interference immunity and status immunity, whereas before, status immunity is a staple pick that you need to plan a backup for. Now, you just pick the one your comp doesn’t use and get to actually enjoy the benefits of the other.
Granted, Kanto was already a super easy region, but this doesn’t feel like a big difficulty bump. Ah well, I won’t complain about free EXing materials
Saline's CS 12.5k Clears!
I don’t see any reason to ever not do 12.5k, the only type I can’t comfortably on-type is ice and I got off okay this week
I do like how this effectively buries the normal type as an attacking type completely
Knocking out a quick and dirty 12.5k monotype on the regular stadium this week, I want to do the new one and want to have some spare EXing materials for my underused grass attackers. Really looking forward to doing that, I’ve been planning some teams around the grass techs and strikers I already have.
As for this week, not much special, though I did use Regirock for the first time ever. Probably the least valuable BP unit of its class, but still functional.
Finally knocking out my 12.5k for the special stadium. This was really cool! I really like that all the stages have the same weakness— it gives you that teambuilding experience from Gauntlet, but without being such a long and boring ordeal. I hope this becomes a more frequent event, I’d really like to do more of these.
Also shout out to Gordie being a budget sun setter
Another 12.5k monotype, not much to note here aside from the fact that James is surprisingly good with Emma— getting a guaranteed poison on all enemies from turn 1 gets Emma swinging really quickly, which is nice.
Duos for this week’s 12.5k, duos are pretty fun in 12.5k! The increased damage parameters make for some pretty tight situations that don’t come up in monotype.
This week was mostly me celebrating SS Lusamine coming home, though I did take the opportunity to test drive Solgaleo EX. I always liked that MC got a canon legendary, and I’m glad Dena is now remembering they have it instead of just endlessly throwing that weaksauce Pikachu around.
I do feel like Solgaleo really needs a grid expansion though, it struggled before and the grid really doesn’t do anything for it
Quick and dirty monotype 12.5k, I’ve got irl stuff going on this week and just wanted to get this done. Shout out to Glacia not being a joke pick anymore.
Almost forgot to do my 12.5k this week, went with monoregion duos. This is admittedly pretty lazy, I moved into a new place this week and doing CSMM didn’t even cross my mind until today. I originally wanted to do clone duos but that fell apart at Kahili lol
Last minute 12.5k monotype, not much to talk about. I like Bulu because it turns basically every grass attacker in the game into a murderer without needing multiple supports
…I say as I use it with a self-sufficient striker and a second support
Duos for this week’s 12.5k since I actually remembered to do it this time. Molayne and Hau actually gave me a lot of trouble, both took probably an hour of trial and error each. Both of them required pretty much perfect execution, lots of parameter tweaking and some luck with the moves the boss chose. I got really sick of Hau’s turn 1 discharges
Yeah I could’ve picked better units but I wanted to bust out some pairs I haven’t used all that much like Kris and Hilda
I love that Hilda is basically just fire Elesa at this point except slightly worse
12.5k monotype this week with a solid overkill theme. Mostly just celebrating Irida coming home twice in my first pull, I like being able to actually use the ice type in monotypes now and I can probably actually do 12.5k duos on ice weeks now. Every other ice unit I have needed too much maintenance for that to work before she came around
It’s 12.5k monotype… duos. *jazz hands*
Having a very dull day at work today due to some issues with my laptop, so I knocked out my CSMM early. I’m actually pretty proud of this one, Sinnoh can be a monster and Aaron, Flint and Lucian all had their own special, horrible problems. It took a lot of parameter and strategy tuning to take them down, though at least Cynthia went down pretty quick to the tried and true Emma/James combo
I like to bring James whenever I run Emma because he gets free guaranteed aoe poison, which makes it dead easy to start swinging with Emma and not have to worry about poison fang RNG or killing my target and needing to repoison
@frozen plinth What parameters did you use for Cynthia? Sync grid for James?
I’ve actually never bothered to grid or lucky skill James lol, been too lazy
1 sec and I’ll drag up the params
- Physical damage reduction
- Special damage reduction
- Def & Sp. Def Up 1
- Interference immunity
- Sync buff Up 5
- No Stat Reduction
- Power Up on Hit 1
- Special Damage Reduction 8
- Gradual Healing at Start
- Can’t Change Zone, Weather or Terrain
- Ally HP Down at Start 5
- Power Up on Hit 2
- Ally Move Gauge Max -2
- Standard Damage Reduction 8
- Strength Up 6
Started with a buff from Emma, poison gas from James and then had Emma potion James once before moving on to spam
First sync wiped the sides and left Cynthia in kill range for one more hit from Emma
@frozen plinth Thank you! I've never reallly used James but gonna try your method.
Oh and James doesn't even have a grid..my bad lol
I wouldn't have known either way lmao I've never checked
No problem! To be honest, I don't think James is a very good unit overall, but he's the perfect partner for Emma who really wants some easy poison and doesn't care what kind it is
James enables a really easy one-turn setup for max damage from Emma's kit, and you can really easily fit Halloween Iris into a comp with them for poison zone if you really want overkill
This week's Cynthia fight showed me that isn't really necessary though, so I usually just bust her out for monotype trios or more off the wall picks like Plumeria
12.5k monotype, I was lazy this week and just went for stuff that I knew would win. I did get to run Kris as a primary striker though which was kinda fun
Been a while, huh? I’ve been keeping up with my champion stadiums, but posting my clears here started to feel like an obligation, so I dropped that a while back. Special stadium was really fun again though, so I figured I’d drop my 12.5k here!
Glacia is the obvious hurdle to jump here and she's as annoying as ever, I pretty much just had to fish for a run where she didn't use blizzard or icy wind
I like these stadiums because they get me to use units I otherwise definitely wouldn't though, like busting out Hilda again after all this time was really nice and I've actually never used bluecanine before
Saline Vs. The World (Of Pokemon)
Managed to take down the Iris EBE! My Unova pool is pretty light, so options were super limited and I wasn’t sure if this would be doable.
The big problem is, of course, Iris bottoming out your stats super fast. I've seen some people get around that with lucky skills, but from experience with other EBEs, I know that using off-region units can still sometimes work out. Keeping Jasmine alive past the sync is a bit of a challenge, but it pays off by not losing all your stats
When I was finally able to keep everyone alive and powerful long enough to take down Iris herself, though, another issue came up: left side can use Heat Wave. This comp does nothing to raise Sp.Def back up, so one heat wave is enough to chew up my whole squad, especially if someone is already dead. This is another reason keeping Jasmine up past the sync is so important, since I can only flinch cheese one of the Heat Waves and need to be able to tank one
Luckily gridded Jasmine is generally pretty good at surviving rough hits, so I didn't need to dedicate all of Skyla's potions to her. I did need minimal RNG for one MPR on Iris's TM and a few refreshes on Skyla's potions, though on my winning run I also got really lucky on Jasmine TM refreshes. I don't think I needed them, but nice to have. Ultimately though it just came down to puzzling out whose syncs to use, when, and who to attack after
I had a lot of fun with this one! Been a while since an EBE felt this challenging but still fair. Especially nice to have a challenge like this when the infinitely less fun Anabel fight is right there, taunting me
