Depends how easy you want stages to be. You don't have to buy 9x boosts, but you can buy 2-5 to make things easier.

The main boost, is the one that increases the stats of all your pairs depending on the theme you randomly got at the start.

As long as one sync pair in the party matches that theme, all 3 members of the party receive the boost.

You don't need candy investment to succeed. I don't invest too much either and it's totally fine. Roster's depth is more important

I haven't missed a Master, at least

But I've passed up a lot of Fairs for that

I don't think limited or not is the issue, depth is more important. You really don't need powerful things until Area 6-7 honestly

I see him pretty frequently even here in people's Rally screens

My roster depth may not be as broad as it needs to be, because of the lack of Limiteds

Every Master, only two seasonals (but one is Halloween Acerola so ig effectively one seasonal), I think my only other non-Fair limiteds were random-ticket freebies (Petrel and Variety Elio)

what's thorton gimmick of fighting him? he has stupid amount of hp, even when i used apple cup it took so long to take him down

Until he reaches ~60% health he takes greatly reduced damage from physical attacks, after that point he takes greatly reduced damage from special attacks, and throughout the whole fight he takes greatly reduced damage when not affected by a status change (confusion/flinch/Rebuff/etc.)

And none of those can be ignored by Piercing Blows as the passives affect the base Defense and Sp. Def.
