#uneven first layers between identical prints

Hope this is the right support corner for this, if not please let me know:

Across 2 different Vcore 4.0 500s (non Hybrid, non Idex, one enclosed the other not enclosed) running RC2 i have the issue that the first layer will be uneven between otherwise identical prints.

This manifests in the form that while the first time printing the part comes out perfectly, on the second print even a raft with 50% horizontal layer seperation ends up as an extremely squished fused plate, resulting in it being unremovable form the part.

Not printing with a raft can cause extreme overextrusion on the first few layers; I have repeatedly recalibrated Beacon, the printers print fine otherwise (as soon as the issue has cleared on higher layers) and in general seem to be in good health.

As we require the machines for a fairly urgent print job i dont really want to update to the most current release, however it does seem that the new calibrate logic might solve this long term?. RC2, at least my version, doesnt have heatsoak enabled either, i am currently testing manually if that may be the culprit. Happy to include further info, but i suspect this issue may have been answered elsewhere.

Specifically i am asking, a) what temporary measures should help and b) will upgrading to 4.1 & latest RatOS solve this entirely?

a) turn the hotend fan around to pull the air... That is just a temporary test solution, because these fans do not like these temperatures... but you can check if it helps. Then update to the RatOS 2.1 final. Yes you need to clean install this version, but most of the issues should get better.
b) clear yes will at least fix your issues if you do a complete update to 4.1 with the steel gantry.

alright thanks. I have heat soaked for a good 35 Minutes, beacon itself is stable at 75°C so this should be enough. Printing ABS at 100° on bed and 265 on nozzle. Asking a collegue to take a picture once the first layer is done as i am controlling one printer remotely. Ill install the upgrades over the weekend on my own machine , if that indeed fixes it ill get the office printer upgraded too

So far so good @wary juniper . Ill try to push the update/upgrade sooner, but gotta finish printing this batch. ill update if the issue comes back despite heat soak

What I used to do in order to get decent first layers is set the bed to the print temperature and then park the nozzle in the center of the bed at Z2 so for a 500mm printer 250,250,2 and then let it sit there for 45-60 minutes and then start the print without opening the enclosure. That should get the printer to a stable thermal spot. I would upgrade though ASAP
