front left Z is backwards when using this, blindly subbed in the new config without checking directions and snapped of the rod bearing strut while homing! Doh!

thats what i did, and tried to home immediately after
I should have checked directions before doing so

Yeah because that's not the configs fault. The default v-core-3 template has them all run in the same direction. so that means one of your wires is reversed 🙂

That's not a property of the board config, that would be a printer.cfg thing.
the stepper direction does not change because the board config changes.
(you can't invert pins in an alias. An alias is only an alias)
