Do I need a headset that has a mix amp in order to use the chat link cable? When I plug the chat link into my Xbox controller and then plug in my headset I cannot hear game or chat audio (analog settings in streamelements but it also doesn’t read the audio) I’ve checked and re-checked and I have every piece correct, but I’m wondering if it is my headset?

You shouldn't need chat link for Xbox.
you should be able to go into Xbox Settings, Volume and Audio Output, and change Party Chat Output to Headset & Speakers.

it works with those settings for party chat, but in terms of getting game chat from COD / Fortnite for cross-plat, it doesn't register audio.

I think COD and Fortnite have their own audio settings which may override the Xbox itself. But from a hardware/wiring standpoint you do not need a mixamp for the Chat Link if your headset is just a 3.5mm connector.
Though it can add some functions like better microphone monitoring controls perhaps.
But currently the Xbox One can send Game Audio and Party Chat to the capture card. If you want Game/Lobby Chat, that is only sent to the assigned headset and that is where the Chat Link would be needed.

GoPro has a bug, sometimes it doesn’t autofocus when you turn it on right into video mode
And so your video looks eternally out of focus

@cunning latch I have an astro Mixamp tr. I want to get party audio in my stream when talking to my friends so it doesn’t sound like I’m talking to myself. I hooked everything up but when I do test recordings in OBS I don’t hear the people in my party. It was working a couple days ago but I had a static noise when they talked. My mix amp is hooked up this way: streamport to ground loop isolator to hd60s 3.5mm input, Mixamp micro usb to Xbox, Mixamp optical to Xbox, Mixamp to headset and Mixamp Aux to 3.5mm line out on my PC. Is there anything else I need to do? I’m using a separate mic for talking to the stream

Okie dokie @cunning latch - so I got the sound working through the analog option...but as soon as I plug my headphones into my iPad mini, I lose all sound for the game through the elgato.

@lavish heath Sounds like the HD60 S+ is still only listening to HDMI audio if you're using the Chat Linik with the iPad. As a test, does the audio remain in Game Capture HD when set to analog?
@humble stump The Aux to 3.5mm should go to a Line In on your PC, rather than Line Out. Line out would be to connect to speakers or amplifier. Line In is for sending audio into the PC without amplification.
Wait you're using the Stream Port to the HD60 S and also another aux cable to the Line port? Is that two different setups?

That sounds like it could be a bad cable possibly. Maybe try Stream Port to a Line Input on your PC instead of into the HD60 S.
You can then add the Line In as an audio input inside of OBS.
So we can bypass the HD60 S to test.
If the issue remains then it could be the cable or something with the Mixamp setup.

You can do that, or you can right click on your HD60 S layer, go to Properties. Then at the bottom, enable Custom Audio Device. And select the Line In. This will override the audio coming from the card with that custom selection.

Hey @cunning latch - so I downloaded the Game Capture software and it captures the HDMI input within half a second no issues there. I closed the Game Capture software and was able to complete the same scenario through OBS...but I still cannot hear in-game sounds. The stream can, but I cannot. --- Next I tried selecting analog audio with HDMI input for the Game Capture in the Game Capture software settings. But still using the VCD input on OBS Studio....and I think we have a fix. I'm checking right now to see if there is a slight delay. I'll keep you posted but I think I found a fix. 🙂

No I was trying to use it via analog because when you run it through your computer using iShowUAudio there is a half second delay that throws my game off but I got it working. I'm playing / streaming right now. I play off mobile.

Also might depend on the revision of the mount. The handle is meant to be pulled out slightly so you can change the rotation of the handle without spinning the screw.
Like if it was tight up against a wall you can use it like a ratchet.

Just to get rid of the entire plugin issue. But now there is this audio one, which I know the + is like brand new. And it was just OBS - game capture solved it fine, but when I screen captured and did the iShowU Audio Capture I had a delay. I play PUBG Mobile so I was dying before I realized there was someone nearby.

I'm sure there's some app on your phone you could use for controlling hotkeys. GCHD has hotkeys available for starting and stopping recording.
I use an app on my phone called Unified Remote which lets me control my PC like the mouse and such. But I'm sure you could find something similar to push a button to start recording.

@cobalt depot Inside of the 4K Capture Utility, do you have HDR recording turned on inside of the recording settings?
MK.2 has on-board tonemapping. Which if HDR recording is off, will handle conforming HDR to SDR so that all software looks correct like OBS Studio.
If you have HDR Recording on, tonemapping is disabled since the 4K Capture Utility needs the full gamut to capture. You can still use OBS with it, but you'd need to use Stream Link to tonemap in software and then send a signal into OBS. https://help.elgato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028241631-Elgato-4K-Capture-Utility-How-to-use-Stream-Link
But it depends how washed out it is. un-tonemapped HDR is extremely grey.

I'm pretty sure HDR is turned on in the recording since it has the little HDR button/label in the top right of the capture utility.
How do I turn that off?
Also, do I need to turn the windows display HDR setting off?

Inside of 4K Capture Utility, got to Settings, then I believe under Recording. There should be a check box for Enable HDR recording.

Hey guys, trying to set up my new HD60s and am having the hardest time figuring out what I'm doing wrong. It's probably something simple I did wrong but as I've never set one up before it's beyond me what I'm doing wrong.
So here's my setup. I HDMI'd my Nintendo Switch into the HDMI IN, and connected the HDMI OUT to my TV (We'll call this "Monitor A"). I connected the USB that came with it into my computer's USB 3.1 port (I've tried all the other ports as well to be sure 3.1 wasn't broken). The Elgato device flashed white, white, red. I opened my Game Capture HD software (on my 2nd monitor which we will call "Monitor B" Monitor B is set to duplicate Monitor A so I can see what Monitor A would show despite having changed its input over to my game console) and in the top right it states "No Capture Devices Found". I tried a variety of troubleshooting steps such as resetting the PC, resetting the elgato, changing out wires and ports, I even went into device manager and unticked all of the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" boxes on my USB 3.0... I wondered how I was receiving video and audio of the console through Monitor A if on Monitor B I can see that the elgato isn't working properly according to my pc's device manager. In the Device Manager it states "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There are no compatible drivers for this device.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."
For the life of me I could not find a driver for the elgato. I downloaded every video capture software I found on the elgato website and installed it all. Nothing works. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

Soooo I decided to get a new hdmi splitter and switcher (both with hdcp 2.2 - 1080p 60hz). After hooking them up, I noticed my elgato has "no signal" on my capture software.

I was setting up my OBS with my Elgato HD 60s and I was testing the sound out in a recording before I started streaming with it and I noticed that every time I would speak it would lower the game sound. I know that on the Elgato program there is a setting to lower the game sound when you are speaking and I know how to turn that off but I was wondering how would I turn that off or stop it from happening on OBS?

Has anyone else had a black lines issue using the Elgato HD60? Been livestreaming Pokémon Sword on Twitch via OBS and very often there'll be thin black lines pop up sporadically on the stream preview, which also appears on the stream, even though I don't see that on my TV screen. @molten rampart Not necessarily. Best option is two PC's. But a Capture Card can still be handy for games which maybe don't like being captured like Destiny 2 or RDR2.
When streaming the PC is still performing the bulk of the work.
@karmic plaza This is something called audio ducking commonly. It's not something we do in our hardware so sounds like something in OBS or maybe your system's settings.
Is it when you speak, or someone else? Do you have a simple Audio Mixer setup in OBS?

I'm having issues with my Elgato HD60 Capture device. I'm trying to connect it to my switch. 1) I have my HDMI Out on the Switch plugged in on IN on the capture card. I have the HDMI OUT on the capture card plugged in and the HDMI cable connected to the TV.

For the HD60, probably not a huge amount. But it's possible the cable is the issue if the cable was only wired for charging.
Video Capture is only used with the ElgatoVideoCapture device.

If this is definitely in OBS, one option to isolate it would be to record to multiple audio tracks and play some consistent audio like white noise and then listening the tracks separately.
But looks like OBS does have ducking/sidechain support.

That sound would be if it detects a device. So the cable could be wired for providing power but not data.

No it's fine. Was just thinking that if it's set to Waveout or DirectSound, your capture card audio will go through your Desktop Audio and thus be affected by sidechain.

Ok then that may be it. Try changing the Desktop Audio's Sidechain to none to see if it changes. It may be the issue there.

Also on the bottom you'll find a camera button for saving a screenshot from the preview. Could you grab one and post it?

@crisp sedge HD60 works a bit differently in OBS than the S. But since the HD60 sends compressed video into Game Capture, changing the decoder and encoder inside of Game Capture Preferences > Advanced may result in a improvement.

Cam Link, Cam Link 4K, and HD60 S+ are what are known as UVC devices. Universal Video Class. They use a universal driver provided by Windows or MacOS.

How set in stone is the camlinks CPU requirements? I’m an oddball with ancient PC using a phenom II x4 965. Ive currently got an hd60 pro that i have no issues with but that was a gamble when i bought it. So I’m looking to grab a usb3 pcie card and a camlink to use my sony a7 instead of a c920. So @frozen vortex first port of call would be to check if StreamLabs supports all the sites you restream to (I personally think restreaming is a bad idea as you spread yourself too thin but to each their own). I believe that StreamLabs will let you link all the accounts together in one so you get alerts for all with one alert window.

I’m guessing probably not, but dont quote me on that. the PS4 is weird because any way of inputting audio via headset/mic will just cut off the audio to stream. I know a chat link will let you get party chat and audio to the stream but i dont think it works in reverse to use stream mic for chat mic.

I seem to be having issues with my Elgato Capture Card. I've owned it for over a year and am using it on my new computer I got last Christmas but it doesn't seem to be registering. I have all the cords plugged in accordingly as well. HDMI cables are plugged in in their slots and USB connected into the capture card. I pulled up the Capture program and it isn't showing up. Yeah multiple ones. The cord isn't the one that came with the Elgato I lost that and haven't found it just yet but found something similar to it. But the Elgato lights up and acts like its still powered on.

@exotic bison Every one of our Game Capture cards supports Switch. Switch often has somewhat non-standard signals. Causes troubles sometimes.
Where do you see on our site that it doesn't support switch?
If it lists compatible consoles and Switch just happens to not be listed, it's probably an old article. HD60 predates Switch by a few years.

@eternal vessel if you have a HD60S/HD60S+ or an internal capture card then you won't need to worry about passthrough as it comes up on the PC in pretty much realtime. Thus your monitor only having one HDMI port won't be an issue. That being said, does your monitor have any other ports?

Hello everyone!
So I got a new Elgato yesterday and have so far managed to set up the entire thing myself. However I am at a bit of a loss for a couple of small issues that are driving me bonkers.
The first issue is that the audio is coming out of both my headset and my television, which I only want coming out of my headset for streaming.
The second issue is that there is some noticeable latency issues, where the game will freeze or stutter when moving and the audio will occasionally cut out every time it freezes.
If anyone knows how to remedy the issue it would be sincerely appreciated.
Oh I should point out that I am using OBS.

I think the timer is how long you can record for at that resolution/framerate etc

as for why it's going down, I think that's due to the "Flashback Recording" aspect @snow plume in which it background records a certain amount of footage, meaning if you then ask to it to clip say the last 5 minutes (say you had an awesome play and didn't realise until after you wanted that recording, you can flashback record that and get the footage you wanted)

If a signal is coming into the software it's automatically recording in the background. If you don't want this you can turn it off in Game Capture preferences.
By default the temporary recording is removed when gchd is exited.

Says HDCP is enabled. So if you're on PS4 you'll need to turn that off in the PS4 settings.

In that case, Xbox doesn't have a toggle. It will be automatically turned on if you view videos from friends or use any media apps like Netflix. You'll need to power cycle the Xbox.
Should be able to hold down the Xbox button on the console until you hear a chime. Then the console will shut down, you can then boot it up and HDCP should be cleared.

Well you can disable the preview by clicking on the monitor button on the bottom of the window. But the instant part will always be instant with the HD60 S since it's a low latency card.

I'd try reinstalling going into Game Capture HD preferences, Advanced tab and changing the encoder and decoder to another selection. And making sure your GPU driver is updated.

HI! I'm wanting to control my computer screen brightness through the Stream Deck, but I can't figure out how.
My laptop (Dell Inspiron Gaming 5000) has both Function keys and Multimedia keys. I can change how the keys function by default in the bio to be either.
For example I usually have it set to multimedia keys, so to use the function keys I have to use FN + (whatever key) to get function keys.
The Stream Deck software is able to detect all of my function keys, but not all multimedia keys. Multimedia keys can control the brightness.

I'm having issues with the Stream Deck software, trying to link any account such as Twitch or Twitter to perform actions for them doesn't work, the browser that pops up causes the software to crash. Similarly any custom plugin installed seemingly functions correctly, however, clicking the icon for any custom plugin actions on the profile causes the software to crash; this means dragging an action onto the profile for the first time causes the program to crash as icon for the action is selected, it also means it isn't possible to use the property inspector to modify inputs for custom plugins. What can I do to fix this? I already reinstalled the software as well as removing all app data for the Stream Deck.

Ok I recorded some Forza Horizon 4 at 4K 30fps HDR for 40 minutes but when I go to the library in 4K Capture Utility it says it is 1 hour and 21 minutes and plays at half speed. and audio is messed up.
Do I need to put it in premiere pro or DaVinci Resolve and speed it up 200 with out messing with audio?

But for any newer releases, your Mac needs to be updated to Sierra atleast.

@somber flume I don't doubt that iOS 13 has something to do with it. I'm just saying your phone is still outputting HDMI to the card. The Game Capture HD is receiving that image from the phone's adapter. I'm seeing some reports of this same issue when people updated with their iPhones. They all get this QR code on their TV and it asks them to install this DrongCast chinese app. Which is what your error is taking you to.
Sounds like maybe that adapter is not a genuine apple accessory possibly and the adapter itself has problems with iOS 13. Perhaps the adapter has a firmware which needs to be updated. That's all I can come up with at the moment.

So my guess is it's not a genuine apple adapter. Based on my reading, the app that the QR brings you to is used to update the adapter for iOS 13 possibly. But I wouldn't install some random app, personally.

It detected it as connected for a few seconds but stopped when I turned the display on and it wouldn't work again, I tried all troubleshooting steps I could find

@snow plume if you're not using Sound Capture you can freely uninstall the software. But for now, you'll need to open the software and set it to off. For Sound Capture to work it needs to essentially force itself to be the default devices and then it routes audio to your headset/speakers, etc.
If you're not using it, setting it to off or uninstalling is fine.

Again, that's just my assumption. My thought is the adapter itself needs to be updated to support iOS 13. The adapter is connecting over Lightning after all and it talks to the phone and it's possible iOS changed some behavior with Video Output.
I also saw the same issue come up in some other forums where people updated to iOS 12 from 11 and saw a similar QR code message.
But I've never personally used any of those sorts of adapters. That's just what my reading brings up. But if the issue shows up on the TV without the Elgato Game Capture device in the mix, then that definitely isolates it to the adapter or phone.
But I'm leaning to the Adapter.

I cannot get my key light to work. In my opinion it is broken as in videos I have seen the power cable / little box you plug in is green and ready to go once you plug it into the back of the key light. I am not getting that green symbol or any reaction from the light itself that it is working.
I have tried holding down the reset button for 5+ seconds I have tried turning it on, It is not plugged into wall but rather a surge protector with many other things plugged into it as well

You could perhaps make a multi-action which would send out the Tweet and Title at the same time with the same text. @opaque rose Sounds like it's mostly just a naming difference. I don't know your Audient, but guessing it has many "inputs" on its side, but the computer outputs into the interface. And many VirtualCables are can take audio from either side.
If you want to troll friends with the audio you'll want to send it to an Virtual Cable Output, then have the game use the Input side. If my memory of setting them up is still true

@quaint atlas You're wanting to record HDR or record SDR? If you want to play in HDR and record in SDR, just need HDR Recording unchecked in 4K Capture Utility's recording settings. This will then do Tonemapping on the MK.2 and all software will be receiving an SDR signal.

I know it isn't an issue with my ports as they work fine with other usb 3.0 devices

When I'm recording on the 4K60 Pro in a dual pc setup and I alt+tab, my screen goes black for a few seconds and then goes in a out of my game and it's really hard to just quickly go over to my second monitor and do some stuff.

@grave ledge The time it takes for a system to alt-tab depends on many things, but in general it's always going to exist with Exclusive Fullscreen since the system makes the game take complete control of the display. To remove this limitation, you'd need to run in Borderless.
@ornate sonnet Try moving the Cam Link 4K to other USB 3.0 ports. Often freezing is caused by a crowded USB controller.
@blazing smelt Try taking the Switch out of the dock and disconnecting the cables from the dock. Connect the power adapter first, then HDMI, then insert the Switch.

A USB 2.0 cable has four conductors. Two Data, Two power. It's possible the power conductors/wires are fine and there is an issue with the data conductors/wires.

I've emailed tech support and im waiting for them to get back but thought I'd come here and try, I got a 4k 60 Pro a few days back, I hooked it up to my Xbox One X and when I set my Xbox's resolution to 4K UHD it does this screen tearing. If I set my Xbox to 1080 it works fine. I've tried updating my graphics card drivers but it did noting. Can anybody help?

I love the hd60 pro but the elgato capture software is the most garbage thing I've ever come across 😦
One day it records perfectly, the next day I open the software and it's not picking up any audio
the audio is absolutely fine, every other software picks it up flawlessly apart from the elgato softwae
and it comes up "allow {0} fps" whatever the hell that means
I have to open and close the software sometimes 30x for it to actually work and nothing changes, it's just so temperamental
Even when I set the audio to "hdmi audio (game capture hd60 pro) the error sign disappears but it still picks up no audio even though I can literally hear it through my headset
I then reload the software, and now the software thinks that the audio is maxed out 100% of the time even though it's not, it's still not picking up the game or Mic audio, if I record anything it's just a high pitched noise on the recording yet the audio i'm hearing is perfect
I pretty much have to uninstall and reinstall the software daily just to make a recording. any ideas what it could be that's causing this?

Because Elgato utilises the chip on the hd60pro
whereas elgato does not support obs for encoding, so the 1080p 60fps 60mb elgato recordings are better than x264 cpu recordings in obs
If I could use the chip on the capture card for encoding in OBS I would drop this software in an instance, but they won't support it

Thats the issue, there is no option to select the capture card encoder to record with, just my GPU/CPU the CPU quality at 12k bitrate is nowhere near good enough compared to 60k on the capture card

Hello, I'm having a problem with my Camlink. I just bought it a few days ago and connected it to my cam (Canon EOS 750D) I had problems at first but then I managed to get it to run. But today it stopped working. I have no idea why. I'm on Windows 10. I tried reinstalling programs and drivers. I made sure the cables are connected properly. It's not getting any signal anymore. I even tried a different hdmi cable and it didnt work. I hope someone can help me solve this problem.

I already have an "Elgato game capture HD 60 S".
Now I ordered a pre-used "Elgato Game Capture HD", which is an older model. I need it to capture old consoles like Wii, stuff that doesn't have HDMI ...
But for that, I have two questions.
First: can I have both devices permanently connected to my PC without any issues, like interfering with each other?
Second: will I need any additional software/driver for the Game Capture HD? Or is it included in the stuff I downloaded for the HD60S?

But in general it should be added when Game Capture HD's software was installed. I hope that older HD has the analog adapter though.

@south bronze be sure Windows 10's Fast Startup is turned off. It can stop some USB devices from fully coming back up. Windows 10 puts the computer into a form of Hibernate when you shut off the computer. It's not a fresh start like a reboot.

Ok there are a few things you need to do. You need to download a 64bit version of the ISO. You need to make a bootable DVD or USB of that iso. And you'll need to start from either of those and wipe out your system. You will lose anything on the main drive.

Hi,
I have a HD 60 S. It's brand new. I've tested it and had it working with my PS4. But I moved the PS4 to another room and haven't used it since. Since doing this, I've noticed the Elgato device disconnecting from my PC. I'll unplug and replug it, but then after a while it will disconnect again. Is this supposed to happen because I don't have the PS4 (or any other device to be captured) connected to the Elgato device? I've tried different ports on my PC and it keeps happening. But other devices work fine in the same ports

well, i did manage to get it to work last night, without any issues or help.
but it doesn't look that night.
i recorded a test video to show what i mean.
there is some weird looking fizzling on some parts of the screen.
not sure if that's caused by upscaling the Composite input to an HDMI compatible signal or if that can be fixed somehow.
gotta mention, that what you see on the video is also shown on my TV, through the HDMI output of the Elgato. but it looks fine when i directly connect my Wii to the TV.
ooops, i just noticed that my mic was muted.
but you can see the fizzling i mentioned on the blue lines in the Wii menu, and almost everywhere in the game menu where you chose between ocarina of time and masterquest

Hi all, so I have the Elgato HD60S, and I was using it for streaming and recording switch games. It was working just fine up until a few hours ago, when all of the sudden it stopped showing the game footage, and eventually stopped even showing up as a window. It's in my taskbar, but when I click on it, there's nothing. I've tried disconnecting my card, uninstalling and reinstalling and repairing the software, restarting my PC, updating drivers, but nothing works. Any way I could get it to start working again? Thanks for any help.

@south bronze Sounds like possibly a bad USB cable. This is with the original USB cable it shipped with?

The noise I see looks like low quality composite cables. Specifically something called Dot Crawl which is common with Composite. I'd spring for a Wii Component adapter if you can find one. Should result in much better video with 480p.
@south bronze If you go into Device Manager, then look under Sound, Video, and Game Controllers does the HD60 S show up?

the wii goes directly into the AV (composite/component) adapter cable that came with the Elgato. using the original Wii AV Cable.
as i said, with the same cable it looks fine on the TV. if you say that it looks like low quality cable, the only possibility that's left is that this is caused by the Elgato AV adapter cable.
@cunning latch honestly thinking faulty cable just off the research and issues I've had for the past month and a halfish.
and the only Wii component cables i can find at the moment are 6-8€ on amazon.
they gave golden connectors, but look rather cheap. various manufacturers, but look the same.
not sure if that'd be sufficiant, but for that money, it'd be worth a try

Basically, anytime I open the game capture software, it just exists in my taskbar but nothing else, no window pops up or anything.

@stark flume try to close it from task manager and open it again, i have same issue with streamdeck app

ahh it might be off screen... if you sit over it for a second it should show a small pop up. you should be able to right click and select maximize

@south bronze Of course the bottleneck in quality may be the condition of the particular analog adapter from the used one you bought. But Component definitely can provide much better visuals. Even supports 1080p over analog. The noise issue doesn't look like a digital issue to me, personally.
Though it's interesting you mention it looks fine on the TV. Granted, most TVs have some extensive processing to smooth the image.

i just ordered one of those (cheap, but the only available) component cables on amazon.
and a buddy uses the Game Capture HD, but only for HDMI. so said he'll check if he still has his AV adapter somewhere. if yes, he can send it to me
on the TV, i used the original composite cable of my wii with a scart adapter. as i said, looks fine

It seems unplugging the HD60S causes this to happen to the video feed in OBS (audio is fine, I just didn't have any playing on the console rn) unless first opened in the Game Capture HD software.
Edit: Right, I should tell how to recreate it.
So first, close OBS.
Then, have the device (in my case, the Switch) connected to it in sleep mode so it doesn't try to do anything through the card.
Now, unplug the capture card.
Plug it back in, open OBS and wake up the device connected to it.
That should then display these green lines while still transmitting the audio just fine.
The fix is simple, close OBS and open the Game Capture HD software, wait for the video to display correctly and you're good to go back to OBS with the fixed video.
