Okay. So I play PvP, and on 1.0.1, FS is going to have a really slow cooldown if we try to bite fight because we have the reflex to spam bite. So, I made few experiences and I observed that in 1.0.0, FS bites faster than FS from 1.0.1 because they don't have the tail attack. Please, change it to a keyboard. THIS MESSAGE IS FOR PVPERS BECAUSE WE BITE FIGHT.

Keybind would feel more intuitive all around, I support this. Double tapping is also not very disability friendly so I would appreciate if abilities were bound to their own keys instead.
It would be AMAZING if this was a keybind, during testing I’ve died embarrassing enough multiple times to IRs because I was unable to Bite and just kept tail swiping. Changing it to a default keybind like, Y or something would be good.
Plus, people wouldn't use FS as much as they did since it wouldn't be a good ground tank..
FS is just going to be good in air and that's gonna be annoying to FS mains..
I agree with this. I can see many accidentally tail swiping over biting in a bite fight.
I also agree, we pvpers bite fight a lot on fs, like the isle has where you press alt (or just bind it somewhere else.) and then your primary attack. It would technically be a now even weaker dragon to fight with due to people not being able to fight with it properly.
Yes, and unless someone chases you from behind, they can still shoot you..
HARD agree, the tail whip has been awful to use in combat so far.
I stand by my suggestion of they hiring a combat dev. Or at least listen to their community.
Yes, a combat developper or Player's feedback on something else than the update coming would be nice
After playing with the flame stalker a bit, this is no longer a good idea, it is a necessary idea.

There have been times where I haven't even Double tapped my attack and it has used the tail attack instead of bite. It is so incredibly unpredictable, and I would really enjoy having it key-binded-
Preferably even keybind-able, where we can customize where it is to best fit our play styles.

If the tail really isn’t rebindable, could change the input from a double tap to a hold button. I realise right now holding left click causes you to breath fire, but most (in my experience) people hold left and right click together so they can aim whilst firing, which could be considered a different input.

At the VERY least add it to the customizable keybinds list so players can make it whatever they please. It won’t be that hard to change.
It really isn't rebindable because it's directly tied to the actual bite attack. They are not separate entities at all.
All they've done was add a "delay tolerance" for the tail attack. 1/5th, 1/6th, 1/7th, and 1/8th of a second. Which for accessibility purposes it makes sense. However this wouldn't be necessary if they just made it a separate keybind.
The best we can do right now is set it to 1/8th second and find a rate of which you can tap the mouse button and discipline yourself to that timing to get most of the bite speed back. This isn't a good solution.
Right now due to this tail whip issue, IR will perpetually dominate on the ground if the growth tier and stats are equal due to their piercing bite making it high chance to bleed (that FS does not have) and the base bite damage is much higher to compensate for their slower bite rate comparatively to FS.
***Solution that would solve everyone's complaints: *** Separate the tail whip from the bite attack as a control, set it to a rebindable key like everything else, and allow tail whip in the sky while flying. This isn't complex to do code-wise I know it isn't.
Literally would solve everyone's complaints. The attack itself is a wonderful idea, it really is, but poorly executed.
Please make it a keybind, yes. Having the doubletap click has been very very tempermental, even on the 1/8th setting. There are times where I do want to bite consistently in a row, and instead it throws the tail whip animation. Very frustrating.
Seconding this. As I stated, I do not understand why the tail whip was added to begin with- FS was already in a very competitive place, and could even have been accused of being overpowered, before this patch. Now? It feels like the addition is silly and unnecessary- plus, it interferes with existing functionality.
At least, the tail whip should be rebindable. At best, it should be removed from the FS and saved for a dragon where it's more necessary, like the broodwatcher.
Middle Mouse Button by default for a physical attack would be appreciated for sure.
Nah I think the tailwhip was a nice addition. But it definitely needs to be on a separate button.
Just for people who are using a laptop and don't have access to a middle mouse button I would say just put the default onto an actual key like q, c, x or z + click.
100% agree. Cannot tell you how many times I tail whip when trying to bite. Hard locking it without being able to change the keybind was a bad move x.x
I have the tail attack tap to the lowest (I need to tap more to activate it) and it just sucks I still accidentally tail attack instead of bite so I’d love this idea to set it as a key or for those who somehow like it can keep it as a mouse button if wanted. 👍
They should let us customize it more...

100% something the FS needs to be a viable dragon again. trying to bite fight and being forced to tail swipe just feels unnatural in pvp scenarios

but they did get feedback in the test server discord talking about changing the keybind. it was stated that people liked the attack but wish it wasn't double click/a different keybind.

I have to agree, its really unpractical so far. I could see myself getting used to it eventually, but i would prefer the option of assigning the attack to either a keyboard or a mouse button.
I feel the tail attack is a great addition but I don't like accidentally tail attacking in a bite fight and I think it would be better if the tail attack had the option to be set to a different key.
The main problem is yeah we can get used to it, but it still physically slows down the rate at which a Flame Stalker can bite. Try it. Bite as fast as it will let you with a 1/8 delay.
Now fly into the air and just rapidly bite. You'll see what I mean.
It's a major nerf to Flame Stalker that just wasn't necessary at all. I have lost so many fights on the ground because of this problem that I normally just never lose.

I completely agree. And this is coming from someone who also plays using the steam deck. I tried fighting some snappers today and got frustrated when I was accidentally doing tail smacks when I went to bite because I was excitedly (and accidentally) double clicking when the intent was multiple bites. This would definitely be better as a keybind
Not one single dislike so far. The tail attack or ANY secondary attack should be a keybind.
I feel this, farming snappers on a pve server as an fs can be incredibly frustrating at time when you keep tail swiping instead of biting
