This is in regards to Jao's most recent post showing a recommended graphics settings to achieve 60 fps for a 3070.. I can't be the only person seeing 'view distance' set to low and being a bit concerned. This is where my suggestion comes into play:
Separate "Player culling" from view distance, and instead have view distance focus on the environment.
Make "Player culling" a slideable graphics option so you can choose how far out you're able to see other players without having to suffer heavy performance loss due to a highly detailed environment being rendered in too far out, as this is an EXTREMELY important thing when it comes to pvp and survival.
#"View Distance" and "Player Culling"

I'm very sure view distance does not apply to players as those do render far further than what view distance changes:
clutter on ground (and some small trees) which even on high renders barely further than 2 dragon lengths around you
While you can see players much much further than that
Also changeable player render might heavily impact pvp if set too low as attacks, especially with the extreme desync currently reach quite far
It does, and it's shown in the current build of the game
View distance is visuals. Not players.
I can confirm, view distance affects environment, not AI/Players thoses are the same no matter your settings.
It’s still good to separate the two and offer a graphics setting for it, since rendering in a lot of players is hard on some computers
