heya! some dragons do have dimorphism, and some are more subtle than others.
asd has differently tinted frills
ss has different colored eyes
irs back spines are continuous down to its tail on males, while females have seprate spines
fs has differently sized facial spikes depending on its gender
bio has no currently known dimorphism 🙂
ex you can see this dragon is female
there are no spines here.
i believe IR also has another dimorphism but i dont remember what it is. i think it has to do with the tail?
male IR
Ooh! My mistake! But maybe the devs (once everything is done) could sneak a peak and just upgrade the differences? ^^ Thank you for your exemples and explanations, really appreciated >3
I personally dont really like dimorphisim it doesnt need to be on every dragon and it doesnt need to be super noticeable, most animals have little to no difference.
Bird species are a good example, Parrots which are known for bright colours generally have little to no difference between genders. Eclectus parrots being an odd one with very obvious sexual dimorphisim others generally require a dna test.
Its a game we talk to each other we dont really need a massive thing saying this one has something between its legs and this one doesnt
i know a big reason that this isnt as prominent is that if it was dramatic enough, this dimorphism would require seprate models, which would increase how big the game is sizewise (most glaringly happening as the species count increases)
im all for extra dimorphism as i think it brings more dragon uniqueness, but if it comes at the cost of the games size and/or performance i would rather stick to more subtle means
i think a lot of visual qol may come if the devs decide to do a revisit to each dragon down the line
Still, I just really don't want anyone to think that it's sexism or anything ^^
that general comes around if the game needs a visual update on some models though so given their current quality, they may get a revisit for performance more than visuals (ex. better animation flexibility as a dragon matures)
Im generally not a huge fan because its almost always the females that lose out because people have this weird idea males are always bigger and stronger which is far from fact. Common in mammals but Mammals are not the only animals on the planet
regardless, provided the dragon gets a revisit, i would love to see more
i do like the inverse! in a lot of species its the females which have improvements over the males. but i agree i dont want anything substantial
Im fine with species were the males and females are a huge part of its idenity like the behemoths, to have a massive difference but other dragons dont need it
obviously we cant change anything about the dragons skin - swatch system and all. but the model itself, like equally neat types of horns - females having sleeker, sturdier horns while males having curled or flashy horns - could be a difference that both can win on
the female would look more dangerous but the male would be flashier
Thats not a bad idea, females shouldnt have smaller horns because they are the ones protecting their nests it wouldnt make sense for them to be less equipped to do so
Facts- and they could have another special ability to protect their eggs even more? Males could also have an ability- ^^
i feel like that would be too far beyond just visual differences.
having smthn like a large defensive buff when near your nest for both parents feels sufficient
and with bile incubation and nest building and such i wonder if nests will become more static and decay over time instead of being deterministic on the female being alive
with a feature of wich egg has that skin-wich one is that incubation % ??
maybe style like The Isle but not the isle
Females & Males abilities/horns/voices and more! ^^ (nesting features also)
bonk
@spark escarp confused-why no and yes?
Its my job to add the emotes as users cant add them ^^
