Hi all. I'm currently doing my A levels. I've been taking Comp Sci as an AS level but I'm battling with some of the topics and as a result I'm falling behind. As a consequence, I've been considering dropping it for English lit/Travel tourism. I'm currently taking Econ, Business Studies & English A levels and I intend to study a BA/Bsc in Econ and Finance in Uni. My question is, will universities frown on my combination of subjects if I decide to take English literature or travel and tourism in place of Comp Sci. Also, I've never done either of the two subjects I want to replace Comp Sci with at IG level and I'm particularly curious about travel and tourism-for those of you doing it, do you consider it a common sense subject? I had looked at some of the question papers for the subject and without having formerly studied it I was able to answer most of the questions correctly but I don't want to get ahead of myself. Final question: How much reading(i.e: how many books will I be reading) and writting is involved in English lit? Thanks all.

are you already in term 3 of AS?
there is no "common sense subject"
i would say, if you want to do this, you probably need to redo your AS year
I'm homeschooling so I intend to write it in May/June next year if I proceed with it
econ and finance requires maths usually
It seems pretty common sense to me
I'm aware
were you not able to do it?
Do what?
take AL math
I opted against it
do you knwo any university that will let you in without AL math
Im sorry but i've seen econ offers where the maths required grade exceeds the econ required gfrade itself..
I'll take Econ and International relations if I'm not admitted for Econ and Finance so that's not really a concern. I'm continuing to do A level maths in my own time but not intending to write it for a level examinations in the off chance that I am admitted for Econ and Finance should the requirements not be strict about maths. So, yes-the points I raised in my post are my main concerns. Not whether or not my application will be rejected because of Maths.
But yes-I did point out that I want to study Econ and finance so I do understand your point
i didn't read ur message correctly, mb
do AS next year? or AL
AS Comp Sci next year. I'm writting all three of my other a-levels oct/nov this year but as I said, I might write travel and tourism/english lit in place of comp sci may/june next year
No worries
i don't know about T and T
i know literature is meant to be rlly hard
if you excel at english thats for you though... like HIGH a* in igcse
Is that because of the reading or writting or both? Yes, I've been getting A's in both IG and AS level for English. My only thing is I hate reading and I prefer listening to audio-books so if I can do that for english lit then no problem otherwise I might decide to take T and T

i know that people who got a* in FLE struggle to score A in the a level, i think its similar for lit
not as many ppl do literature thouhg
i think both
i looked at the spec - there are SO MANY SET TEXTS
The TITLES of most of the texts together took like 6 pages
A level English is a science compared to AS level English so I understand why. I'm yet to write my A level exam but I know full well I'll fall with in the same bracket of people if I don't pull my socks up. But understandable. The set texts I don't mind, I just hate reading books though lol
Oh there’s definitely books
And play scripts
Nah, so long as I can find the audio-book equivalent for those books I'll be goo otherwise if I have to read hardcover books which would be surprising then Eng lit is definitely not for me. The play scripts I don't mind either. I did a lot of annotating for AS Eng so it comes with the territory. I just hate reading hardcover 300 page plus books lol. Thanks so much for your responses. Are you curent;y still doing your A-levels/studying/working?

I hate reading them unless they cover engaging topics of course and I've seen some of the themes covered in Eng lit and I don't consider them to be that engaging
I am an IGCSE student thinking about what I’ll choose for AL, my choices are due in December or January i think?
Some of the poems are unlikely to have audiobooks and I think there is a big list of poems? Not sure
Depends on what region of the world you're in. I know in the UK the academic year typically starts in September so you need to select your subjects by the end of your gcse's. I'm not sure what region of the world you're in.
My academic year also starts around that time
I know that options ARE due around then though
That’s when I had to submit IGCSE options last year, and I know a level options are due then too ye
Cool, at least you're prepared. All the best with your A levels. Make sure to start hard during AS because that will set the tone for A level. The step is not to be underestimated. I had A* in Ig and AS level Economics and I have no idea what I'm doing this year
yep
Nah, the poems are doable too. Just keep the hardcover books away from me lol. Cheers mate, thanks for your responses. All the best
