Hello, I'm in my AS level currently.. writing in feb/march 2025. I'm also simultaneously preparing for the digital SAT exam. I'm planning on taking 3 attempts of this(One in December 2024, May 2025 and September 2025). I'm planning on my first attempt for December 2024. is this good because I feel like there's less time because its nearly one month before as level exams. can someone guide me please?

#

why're you planning to write 3 attempts

#

try to finish it off in one attempt

amber arrow
#

yeah and try to give it in earlier session then december tbh all my classmates did the same they started SAT prep just after igcse and gave it in sept or oct or nov idk but dec is pretty late if you think about the AS plus AS is more imp compared to A2 for admissions so take as much time as possible for AS

#

also the more attempts you give the lesser they are worth

#

suppose you get 1400 in first attemp and 1520 in second attempt dont give the third

crude horizon
#

in fact sat themselves says that it’s usual for people to do 2 attempts

urban schooner
#

that doesn't mean you HAVE to do more than one attempt

#

all i am saying is try to finish it off in one attempt so that you can focus on school and extracurriculars

#

if you were unable to get your dream score, you can rewrite but going into the exam with the idea that you are gonna rewrite it anyway isn't gonna help you

crude horizon
#

you don't have to but it can seriously help you

#

i'd just think about how many times you want to take it personally, if you think 3 is the right amount then well.. do 3 ig

crude horizon
#

ok this is what college board says

#

id follow that

#

yea and they won't get mad if you retake it once

#

ofc you wouldn't do it 9 times

1 Attempt 1580
3 Attemps 1580

The 1 attempt will get the prefrence. However it depends if the university you are applying to is selective or not.

#

(I assume the rest of the profile and grades are similar here)

crude horizon
#

1 attempt 1380 vs 3 attempt 1480

#

usually it looks more like that so..

urban schooner
#

and 1 attempt 1480 looks better

#

so try to get 1500+ on your first attempt

crude horizon
#

do you think people just decide to score less on the first attempt 😭

#

no one wants to score less

if your taking IT, then the practicals would be in 30th/31st jan approx.

#

if not then obviously its february

pallid quail
#

oh ok lmao

#

for some reason i thought as exams might happen a bit earlier

#

@harsh ridge how are you studying for dsat ?

harsh ridge
#

dsat prep going great as of now

#

but im mostly focusing on AS level

pallid quail
#

#

# crude horizon do you think people just decide to score less on the first attempt 😭

it doesn't matter what attempt you score the best, for 99% of top schools in the US you choose the score you want to submit and colleges won't know which attempt that is unless they ask otherwise, the only universities that do require all SAT scores to be submitted is a private such as CMU. don't sweat it and do your best, ideally twice is feasible both mentally and financially.

@harsh ridge Honestly Dec might be a bit too close, maybe you can do it in October or Nov. I prepped for digital for about 5 months and got a good score on the first time. Better to finish it off once.

#

if you got A* in igcse english, and you read a lot of books so have a good comprehension and you are doing AS maths then you should be good for SAT. However you still need to prepare cuz the style of questions are different and the content is slightly different

#

also my country only does the paper SAT and only in june, is that normal?

but 12th graders take it in america, some after they have done AP calc

crude horizon
#

There’s a few things not in igcse but there’s thing in igcse and not on ther

urban schooner
#

you should still prepare for math if you're getting 800 in the practice tests btw

#

the real test is usually harder

urban schooner
#

khan academy is a good resource

#

do all the 6 practice tests

#

read articles

#

the bluebook app

#

#

How hard is sat?

#

compared to igcse

urban schooner
#

i wrote the march 9th administration pepecry

#

both sections were just harder than i expected

#

time was a huge problem and i somehow got lucky in math

#

got a 790 i think the one mistake i made was i got the interior angle formula wrong 😭

#

should have revised igcse formulae

#

hard

#

it was generally hard from what i felt and what others told me asw

#

so like learn all the desmos tricks

#

i got a bunch of hard qns in like 30 seconds just because of desmos

#

features like regression saved me

#

yeah you are

jaunty mortar
#

why is the english section hard?

crude horizon

crude horizon
#

except for the essay, I have no idea how that works

the reading section is just comprehension and grammar

jaunty mortar
#

interesting

#

i wish i could take the ACT cuz i like science and did well in science in igcse but it is not available in my country. only the SAT

#

you aren't quizzed on stuff like melting point of iron or explain why a dc motor spins

#

you read an excerpt from a research paper and answer questions related from that

#

topics range from microbiology to geology to astrophysics
