Yes, they are caged in the Temple. They get released after the Forest Elder cutscene, that's why you suddenly see so many Mantas afterwards

What if they did try to use all elements into the diamond, and that caused the explosion?
Plus, Eden is very windy, flying rocks everywhere, and dirty poisoness water pEyes
And for the fire, I kinda wanna say it sorta spread and burned everything, which is why there's no sign of life like grass or flowers or trees, cuz they're all burned to a crispt
Oh, as well as some parts of buildings or stuff all being a dark color, cuz I can't see them building a dark, black ominous castle there

Hello, I just thought of something. So there is a room in vault, the pull-up door one.
There is a table inside. Its huge in comprasion to a Sky kid and there it a spirit there so we can also see, that it seems too big for them too.
We know that elders are bigger than spirits. What if this table was for them? What if they used to sit in vault together from time to time? After all, vault has all elder monuments at the end, so...
