That was part of the story of the Belonging season. I wasn't playing during that time, but the story was that the spirits were all a family with the quest giver being the grandmother. In the opening cutscene it gave you a bell (not actually an item you kept, it only showed up in the spirit cutscenes) that you used to call the spirits to go back home once you found them in the realms

If it really was eternal day and time passed normally, we wouldn't be looking at a Prairie
nor would Valley be as covered in ice as it is

So... here's a theory. The planet we know used to be a world of eternal day, with creatures of light in places exposed,and creatures of dark in caves. With so much daylight, the early ancestors may have built technologies that could use, but not store light (cause why would you ever need to store it?).
Caves would have been havens for creatures of dark, and few would ever cross into eachothers' territory except for a short time.
Time goes by, and for whatever reason, one of the suns falls. With only half the planet lit, the world experiences its first night. The stars, used to living in unending light, begin to struggle and fall. Seeing this as a problem, several helper lights are sent to the world, but wind up in places overun with darkness.
The prophets spend time analyzing the situation, while ancestors try and fail to retrieve the lights.
The fallen sun likely by this point becomes desperate to return to the sky. Suns are naturally brighter than stars, but work alone, which is a great combination for traversing the risky environments. Note "risky environments". While the ancestors saw trials, the truth was just that light creatures... don't belong in those areas.
The sun retrieves the helper lights and gives them to the elders, who have been taking responsibility for the fallen stars. The sun then climbs the highest mountaiin, which is hollowed out to make room for an elevator to make the trip easier on everyone. They also decide to store stuff in there cause why not honestly if you're going to do something be extra
From the top of the mountain, the sun creates a beam of light to help send the stars back home, before trying themselves to return to the sky.
But for some reason... they can't.
Stuck among ancestors, they are worshiped for their brightess and ability to send stars to the sky, and through fulfilling this duty, they wind up becoming king. Being unique and independant, they can't really hand off their responsibilities to anyone else, so they commission a replacement based off the most cutting edge technology.
We are familiar with the result.

Viridi, I challenge you with this: perhaps the realms we know aren't in nearly as good of a condition as they seem. When things go bad, nature usually tries to make things work with what is left. Combine that with sentient ancestors, and you get places like prarie that seem like they're okay, even though they are leagues away from what they used to be.

I just thought of this randomly but what if the spirits we met on our journey is only there to teach us how to feel/express emotions?
Since in the beginning, we know nothing, we can't express anything, all we know is how to walk and fly.
But with the spirits, they gave us the "it takes a village to raise a child" kinda gig
And since there are spirits in each realm (representing the different stages of life) also means that learning something new doesn't require age. Even if you're getting older, there are some things to learn.
And even if we die, whatever we learned will still stick to us.
Idk I just had this very random analysis in the middle of the night. Any thoughts? Unless this is already canon :V

not sure if someone else has mentioned this before (probably has? i’m new to the lore channel, just finished reading theory docs yesterday hello!) but yes, building on that connection between elements and the realms,
the wisdom that every prophet gives also matches their respective elders, specifically what wisdom the elders need to survive/return home.
ayin needs the wisdom of resilience (earth), because in the cutscene we saw them not continuing making jars because they fell asleep—in order to continue work they must not give in, they have to keep trying even though they’re tired.
teth needs the wisdom of patience (water), in the cutscene they snatched the fire from sky kid and immediately molded it into a diamond (the thing that essentially caused their downfall in the first place). it was reckless; they need to be patient instead of rushing to do a job that might only make things worse.
samekh needs the wisdom of balance (air), and while it could relate to the sport they play/activity they do that require balance, it could also relate to them being twins. they’re competitive, as seen in the cutscene, and they need to find a good balance with each other so as not to ruin the balance of the entire elder circle.
tsadi needs the wisdom of courage (fire), in the cutscene they fell down during what we can assume is wasteland in the war, being overrun by an enemy; they need to shake their fear in order to lead their people to victory.
daleth either doesn’t need a wisdom (as they’re? missing? as per eden gate mural) or maybe they’re not that corrupted to need one; and lamed is the wisest of all, who unites the others in the end, so they don’t need a wisdom as well.

My theory is as follows
After the sky world was made the left overs started to come closer and become the dark creatures what we see today and in the prophecy cave we can see that krill/dark dragon was going away from the people of the sky so we can say that dark creatures are angry at us so they attack us and take there revenge whenever they saw us

Sorry if this has been said already, but does anyone think that all sky children are the "king"? The devs said that the elder in Eden isn't around to be saved anymore, which many believe to be the King. Maybe that's because he no longer exists as himself, but split up, as the sky kids, to become innocent again of what was done to corrupt the world and return home.
Also, some people think the sky kid in the prophecy murals is the King. If that's so, isn't it telling that we all, as sky kids, had to go through the same challenges?
