oh i definitely don't think color matters in the elements, i think it's based on the realms. since orange = fire, blue = water, yellow = earth, cyan = air (from the glow we see from the statues once we finish the trials), it makes sense for each element to be given there.

valley has air because there's flying involved. forest having water is self-explanatory (rain). wasteland having fire represents the courage of the entire environment considering there's a battlefield. and prairie has earth because it mainly consists of grass

1. Why would they hide the lights?
2. Why and how did the first sky kid came. There was no destruction in the kingdom yet. And as far as i know, skykids were made to return the lights back to the fallen by megabird after the kingdom was ruined.

Also, they didn't originally have the lights, they traded them with the other ancestors. And if those lights were actually the lights of creation, i dont think people would've traded them so easily and woulve rather protected the lights.

@mossy bay That's exactly why I think it was intentional. In the murals of Enchantment, it shows there was a sudden rain of lights, similar to Isle murals. Its probably from Megan. Why? They would do that for a reason, Im sure. Plus, we wouldnt know that the lights were in the wrong locations if we never found the locations in Enchantment. Thats also important to consider.
I dont think its some dumb luck. We were meant to know where the lights were meant to be through Enchantment.

So, that's where SoL ends. But in the meantime, SoE spirits were going to wasteland (maybe the spirits there had called for help. Since they can do magic, they thought, SoE spirits could make wasteland a good place. But their magic wasn't powerfull enough to defeat the darkness of the wasteland. Then, ask for help from the vault scholars who then tell them about the lights. (I think that as you said, they must have collected something in the way to trade the light for. So, then the splitted lights were given to them. Now When they were going back to wastland, the storm got them this time. I cant decide whether they fell becuase of the storm or did the krill attack them since it was attracted to light. But before, when they sensed the trouble to the lights, they used the catapult to lauch the lights one by one into the realms, since they were very intelligent , and had travelled thoroughly through all the places. They were able to set the direction and power to get the lights at least in the safe places or at least away from the danger. And then they crashed when the storm/kri attacked.
What i wanna say is that the location of SoE lights was random and the propehcy locations are the true ones. Also those lights aren't actually the propehcy ones as far as i believe
