I think it's more of a game design, but in lore theory, it's probably supposed to represent just that. Eternal life and death, something we can't fix because nothing is ever "truly" fixed, considering the state of the Elders and whatnot.
It's kind of sad, tbh.

It is... But if I may offer an alternative: perhaps the cycle isn't Eternal. Perhaps it's the cycle that allows the clouds to part and seasons to happen

If this is true, then the work we do isn't endless, just really long

If they need more of the Sky Kingdom restored before they can help themselves, they would likely have a system (ascended candles) that encourages working with the ancestors and gets us invested in restoring the world (seasons)

It would be difficult for us to tell how much we are doing because we lack a map of the kingdom or a checklist of things that need to be done. But that doesn't mean there isn't a task list that we are in fact making progress on - just that we can't see the task list.

There are two years of content planned right now, but I doubt fixing Eden is gonna happen in this chapter. So might I propose a thought that restoring Horizon (land of Sky. I find the name funny) could easily be a 10 or 20 year task. A completable one, but one that we won't see until a later chapter.

Do you think that is possible for krill to onece have been good? I believe that krill (and crabs) were filled with light and joy, like mantas and birds. But as disagreements over darkness and light started to split the kingdom of sky apart, and as wasteland became poisoned with evil and darkness, the krill and crabs were possessed by evil and darkness. They started to turn, attacking a kid here and there... until they became so changed that they were deadly. Sadly no light krill remain, and only two kind hearted crabs live in sky. They live on a small island in the sanctuary islands. Perhaps one day we will be able to force the darkness out of these poor creatures and restore them to their once lovely lives. That is my krill and crab theory. I also think that this matter relates to deforestation and pollution in our world today-darkness caused a sad chain of events that destroyed a one thriving kingdom. Our choices all have consequences, both good and bad.

In journey the other TGC game, these machines that look very similar to krill were created in order to destroy whoever the enemies were. I think they won and now it seems like maybe sky is a continuation somehow and these machines are left over just roaming around trying to fulfill what they were programmed to do.
