my original theory is that the rain hurts us because our bodies becomes gradually more permeable to water in constant exposure to it resulting in light escaping through the pores, but I realized that would not make sense as we can swim in water just fine. the idea was that firing, via a candle light/ open flame would strengthen the molecular bond and our clay shell would become dehydrated.. but there are some inconsistencies with this

The king wanted to increase its potential to such an extent that it would result in instability and he was advised against it. However, being king and all and the fact that they had a limited resource of the power diamond, the king used whatever (magic?) to increase the potential and made it dark, resulting in the downfall
