Not having Orbit makes a lot of sense if it's a prequel though. It just means it wasn't until the king was defeates in Light Awaits that Orbit was even accessable. I think I have the LA-> cotl timeline mostly figured out.

• Home is deep under water, but still creates caterpillars (wingless moths) regularly. The caterpillars cannot sustain their light and pass out.
• caterpillars are carried by the waves to the isle of dawn, and litter the beach.
• One of the birds accidentally gives light to one of the bodies. It awakens and begins to explore while the bird watches curiously.
• Megan decides to use the caterpillars, and instructs them on how to do stuff, eventually granting them wings.
• Sky Kids learn to follow ancestors and give light. Ancestors learn that this new race will do a lot for identity and expression. The candle trade is established.
• Through the trade, ancestors become significantly stronger. Additionally, Sky Kids collect pieces of spirits and bring them to the castle to be properly recombined.
• Sky kids face the king and fail. A lot.
• one group succeeds in bringing light to the king. The prince escapes the crown that made them king, and guides the first sky kids to Orbit.
• after the kids are reborn, the Prince is tasked with helping the remaining kids make it to orbit, and calls to the children in Horizon to guide them on their journey.
• The water level at home is reduced, and new caterpillars can make it to the isle shores while awake.
• beached caterpillars are awakened until there are none left.
• the candle trade continues, and makes the ancestors strong enough to make the trip to Orbit.
• Further candle trade makes the ancestors capable of bringing the elders with them.
  We are caught up to present day
