In the concept art of Sky, the krill had a label PLAGUE. This may not be canon or anything but this could mean that the krill had a bigger role in the Sky lore. I mean think about it, crabs weren't really dark creatures they were once creatures in the ark area, until they started becoming aggresive and Wasteland became all dirty and ugly. The Krill could originate from the black goo like the first krill and the krills at the temple gates. This goo may be the cause of the dark plants too since the rain is polluted. It;s say to say that the rain is polluted because regular water doesnt hurt us, so ther's something wrong with the rain water, hence the dark plants growing everywhere in forest. Honestly the dark plants could be just annoying weeds/moss that basically grow anywhere and I could be wrong about the plants, but everything bad might start from Wasteland. Wasteland might be the cause of the crabs being an invasive species since they appear everywhere and maybe the seeds from the dark plants were carried thru the boats and start growing everywhere, the dark creatures and living things are the plague becaues the spread everywhere. The reason why krills stay in Wasteland and Eden is because that's where they're from, where they were made. I still don't know about the polluted rain, unless we have an actual map that connects all the areas together, we can tell where everything came from.
