Our bodies die and are corrupted (become statues) and our light is drained, but our souls are essentially all right, trapped within our own corpses, and go into a hibernation of sorts, until another sky kid comes along and starts spreading his winged light around. One of the statues their winged light reaches is us, and the reason we hug the light instead of just absorb is because when we are alive, the light is absorbed into our bodies, but here, the body is dead, so instead of just absorbing it, we use it as a vessel to get us to orbit so Megan can give us new bodies. We fuse with it. And when we’re in orbit, we’ve BECOME a winged light (we’re all glowey) but we still maintain our individuality (our silhouette stays the same).

At some point when the storm in Eden happened, the King's body got destroyed, leaving the soul of the Prince being in some limbo (the dark place where we find the CoL in Eden)
The Imprints of the Child of Light were the Imprints Prince's memories, and their light. Everytime our kid goes and collects it, the kid finds out what happened to their other half
The Megabird brought the body of the Prince to life, so that it could not only send the lost stars home, but to find its lost half
That's why everytime we also lose all our light in Sky before Eden, we always go to the dark place where we see a Winged Light. It's an imprint of our own memories, or the imprint of our lost soul that was left behind when we got split

To sum it all up, some event caused the stars to fall and the Prince/King was split up into two, the soul became the King and was given a new body since the original was far away. The King "died" and the soul was left in limbo and the Megabird brought the Prince's original body to life to collect its memories, send the stars home and become the Prince again
Or the King. I like the idea of them being the same person
Also since the new body of the King was artificial, it was easily destroyed, even with the soul.
Our body is also as fragile without the original soul being there. The Prince/King probably could've survived Eden if both the soul and body was together

Alright, let me explain to you how i think the eden explosion happened. Eden released a shockwave or something that is like a negative honk/anti-honk that takes away the light of the ancestors, which killed them.

@high bison I can try. The idea is that the king is a bit of a legend or ideal. A Propoganda, if you will. Someone (Megan?) began advertising a larger than life version of the prince, either for control or because of misunderstandings.
This ideal became associated with the crown, while the person Aleph actually was became disconnected.
That would not release Aleph from the responsibilities of the crown, just make the expectations more unreasonable.
Aleph, disconnected from his constillation, would need a new one, and adopted his cape as his symbol durring times where he was less than the king. The stars in the sky were never informed, but on the ground, cape meant the prince.
Come Eden's destruction, the elders and spirits decide to seal off the realm. They agree to make Aleph the key to reopen it, and use the symbol he adopted rather than the symbol the stars assigned him.
Time passes and we are formed from Aleph's energy. Being tied to his actual identity, we form on the symbol that actually represents him, and are able to access the gate that uses the symbol that represents who he actually was, while the stars and story we are told in the vault are tied to the person he was expected to be. (Perhaps Lamed's presentation references this as a small mercy towards Aleph - the crown is used to provide an opportunity for Aleph, and us, to decide not to be either the one we were expected to be nor the person Aleph became trying to be them. But that's tangent.)
The stars do not recognise this change in identity, and continue to treat Aleph, and Us as the king figure.

The king statues and references around the game are an exaggeration or idyllic view of the prince, a caricature if you will. It may be that the prince was rarely seen and their presence were limited to the elders. The king's statue is then by induction the imagination or envisioning of the prince and their power indoctrinated among the ancestor spirits.
The strange piece that seems to not fit within this theory is the isle elder Daleth does not participate to seal the gate to eden yet the realm of isle contain many attributions to the prince (king), while the vault elder Lamed is shown as the central keystone on the gate of eden, but we see no direct reference or allusions to the king in the vault of knowledge. (I haven't thought of a substantial follow-up to explain it)
Based on Null's interpretation that we, the sky children, are formed from the energies of the prince, it seems unconventional that in the memories/cutscenes of the elders, they seem to be unaware of that we are the crown's descendants. Except when Lamed shows us the projections of each constellation, we begin to see the uneasiness of Lamed, as if they know our true identity. Essentially, the hesitation of Lamed opens a whole new can of worms implying that all the elders in their cutscene do know our identity as to associated with the crown, then their hostility and behavior could very well be tied to what occurred to prince and eden.
Finally, we see the all of the elders bow/kneel down toward us after the projection of the vault, the method which Samekh and Tsadi kneels down resembles that of the bows of a warrior, the difference stances each elder take could signify their degree of reverence and regrets, I have not deciphered all of the stances fully though.

If the prince had a king identity that was nothing like him, why would he need to be hidden away at all? Aleph could likely walk through Valley and not be recognised. Probably a huge benefit if you're trying to keep an eye on the state of a kingdom.
As for Lamed being keystone... I can see it. Someone knowledgable would need to draw our constellation and make the gates/barriers. Tsadi probably also knew though, and may have been prepared to protect the vault from us... Until we choose to make a peace offering instead of showing literally any aggression.

Crab attacks skid + jellyfish (cause in sanctuary both the chill crabs and jellyfish coexist so the ones that attack might hv eaten up the jelly fish)
