Sorry to always come out of the blue, but sometimes my Lore braincell conects properly and I get an idea.
A few months ago I watched an anime in which a human (that turned out to Satan himself lol) basically was reborn everytime he died with no memories of his past life. Destined to watch the whole world die and be created again in an endless loop.
Since rebirth is a thing here, I'm gonna add this to my 'skykid is connected to the King somehow' theory, something along the lines of the Skykid being a fragment of what was once the King.
During Eden, the Skykid gives their light to the statues, slowly gaining their memories of what they used to be, a leader that brought hope. But got too lost in their own selfishness and greed that they were left with nothing in the end.
This could be the way of Megabird to vibe check make the King realize his mistake (Also can be connected with Karma. If I remember correctly when you reincarnate you can gain good or bad karma, once you have reached the peak of your good Karma you can ascend to Nirvana) (This could be Orbit lol).

The kid we hug at the end could be a representation of the Old, "Good" and full of light King. We are apologizing to our true selves for getting corrupted

I’ve been wondering where it is physically that the ascent to orbit occurs

The whole pathway up in the ascent seems to go through elements of all the realms, the most obvious examples being falling buildings with the same architecture as the valley races and the vault elder statues at the top, but I’m not sure how that ties in with the actual story

Does the ascent occur outside of time and space similar to the elder cutscenes, or does the same thing physically happen over and over again every rebirth?

@mortal viper I remember the two pictures in the crab caves in your google doc of interpretations. One showed the humans/ancestors using pots to get water and crabs and mantas are at peace with them. Then on the second picture the water level of that same “pond” of water was very low and both the crabs and manta seem hostile while the humans/ancestors are running in fear. This may denote an equilibrium between animals and ancestors, that has been broken. A war over resources, perhaps? Or perhaps it’s a precursor or a direct reference to the war that “the king” had to fend off the creatures depicted in Tom Zhao’s timeline?

short answer: we don't know exactly how they came into existence

long answer: there are many, many theories about it

some believe that krill are covered in corruption

giving the possibility that krill are corrupted light/neutral creatures

others believe the krill came from the dark, just like mantas came from the light

TGC hasn't really revealed the answer, but we can theorize about it with what little info we have from the game and livestreams

You have creatures on both sides that are just themselves. As long as they are of their element or only take on certain types of the other, they are fine. Pick up the wrong type of the other element, and things go wrong

So far I haven't really seen a creature of light trying to take darkness
