so the devs have said that the elder cutscenes take place in an area that is outside of spacetime, but still affects reality. the way i see this, this is their punishment. a time-out box, if you will. additionally, since i believe that the sky kid (there’s only one in my canon) is a reincarnated prince/king, i think that the realms themselves have been frozen in time as a punishment for him as well.
