So, each realm represents a stage of life. Isle is birth--there's not much, it's empty, your confused.
Prairie is early youth, where everything's happy and bright, like an eternal daytime.
Forest is when you start growing older, reaching adolescence. Perhaps also known as the emo teenager phase.
Valley represents almost the peak of your life, where everything is going well. The races represent the competitiveness you have!
Wasteland is the midlife crisis. lol
and finally, Vault is old age. you're wise, and everything has calmed down.

the transition from the valley races to the wasteland vortex is supposed to represent how quickly your life can be thrust into the unknown flashbacks to frozen and the vortex is supposed to represent how you re pulled down into a crisis instead of walking into one.

The vertical format of vault and how each floor has a 'theme' that is each part of your life is showing how you gain wisdom in life

when you finally go to eden the game becomes quicker paced as the end of vault opens up into the eden gate. when you go in, you are oblivious to what lies ahead. the first act, oblivion, representing how you trudge forward into the unknown more frozen flashbacks, the second act showing how even with the dangers and knowing what might happen you still move forward, and the third and final act, accepting your fate and helping those before you confront death head on.

now you are reborn and filled with light as you ascend into the heavens as an angel and everything around you becomes clear and bright. you are now an angel and look down upon the stages of life.

once you are ready you are thrust back into the world with your past experiences 'emotes' ready to confront the stages again.

So the wind is harmless, but it can physically touch us and knock us down
The krill darkness CAN hurt us and take our light and stars, but can’t knock us down

So they sorta work together

In terms of lore for this game I think that one day stars fell from the sky the people from journey used those stars to power there boats but died due to the darkness, and all that is left are their children of light aka the player you play as in sky. And when you get to Eden you are saving the children that failed to stop the Eden storm, of course you fail as well but you save the like 64 kids that failed at life and then you all go to heaven and you are reincarnated. At least that's my take on the lore of the game.

1. The small krills got corrupted by the mud water(idk what you guys actly call it) which makes them became big (bcs they came out from mud water in battlefield)

and then they would send them back to the sky, and the lights would grant them something (guessing because of the cutscenes)

Interestingly, in Journey, the area before Valley-like map, is where the stone dragons are manufactured. Here is the pic of the stone dragon head from Journey and the mask from the Forest Elder temple entrance in Sky. Some interesting resemblance in design and at what level they occur in the map sequence.
