So the ark story goes like this:-
Six spirits each with their on light i.e. their source of power were going on a journey with the quest master.(they probably knew that the sky world has kids and stuff). Suddenly they saw a thunderstorm and got worried soon, a thunderbolt hit the ark which didn't make the ark break. Actually it attracted a krill to them, so that krill attacked them several times which caused the ark to break and everyone fell down. (During this process, the quest master took all the lights and and shot them with the catapult, hoping that someone would come and return them (i think they trusted the Sky kids), due to which one light fell in every realm. He did so because he was afraid that the krill would destroy the light.
Now when the spirits had fallen, they found themselves in a desolate land with sand all around. They wanted to escape but didn't because they were too afraid of the krill in the way. So, they thought that they must deal with the situation.
Then, they started living there, there are a few reasons for this:-
- The shrug spirit was trying to make the water pure in his story so that they could drink it.
- The scare Spirit was probably farming crops for them.
- The playfight spirit along with another Spirit was collecting mushroooms, for eating purposes.
They were doing this but then the sky kids found the ark. The spirits got happy. So, the muralist's red light was returned and she painted a mural to tell their story to the sky kids so that they could help them. ( I have two big points to make here - 1. I think that once the spirits lost their lights they couldn't collect them themselves, someone else had to give it to them. If this isn't true, then the muralist could have collected its own light in the ark. 2. I think the lights give the spirits their special powers back. Like the shrug spirit's ability to purify water only came back once he got his light)
This way all the spirits' lights were returned and the ark became their home.
I guess that the spirits started liking the ark so they made a decision to live there with the sky kids all around, ruining in happiness.
So the ship won't fly away according to me. (The ark is staying is already confirmed because there are wings there and the tents Which came with the purple light prove that the ship will stay broken.)

In the ark quest we see spirits that are strong with magic can use the magic from beyond the grave
Traveling spirits and the questgiver seem to be somewhat aware that they can gift you itemz
They seem to be trapped in the material world as spirits until you can guide them to their elder so they can ascend

Right, but there's a difference between spirit like in Harry Potter's ghost, who are basically sentient people who can float around, and non-sentient ghosts, who are spirits who just repeat the same things (usually something that was really important to them during their time alive)
I think they are the second type of ghosts. They are there, stuck in this ghost-limbo of sort, and can only interact with us via a small facet of our world, namely showing use their most important aspect (the stories they most cherished, or that most impacted them)
But I don't believe they are sentient, they can't talk to us really, they can't move, they don't do anything at all, they just wait for us to give them enough "energy" to repeat the loop they're stuck in

I don't know, I feel like what we are seeing here is still partly ghost-memories, but a stronger kind. Somehow the colored lights are bringing back the last moments of the ark
And I do believe that, during their last moments alive, the spirits did try to make Ark a more hospitable place to live in. And what we are doing/seeing is bringing back those last moments
Maybe eventually we will just restore the world as it was before the cataclysm via using ghost-memories of spirits and bringing the past back into the present

These sheilds, spears, swords and armaments seem to indicate people larger than spirits fighting each other
I pose it to be previous elders as we can see that the wasteland elder weilds a spear and sunburst sheild
We can confirm this theory by observing the spirits of the area.
This particular spirit (look around) climbs the crumbed ruins of the battlefield outpost
So we can gather that the war was waged by larger humanoids ( possibly gaurdians ) on land( as the barricades aren't useful against krill (unless...)) Possibly before spirits

You can see a fourth spire behind the temple. But can you see the towering vault despite it literally being the next temple( which you literally start out in)
I suggest the vault and wasteland are connected
And that after the wasteland became a wasteland, the spirits set off on an expedition to uncover the golden land.
They landed ashore in the harbor and spread out looking for tech
Some were able to Peirce the defenses of the pond forgotten civilization and get to the vault, break in and steal some info containers. But their boat was docked too loong and they because stuck some able to make it out, while others perishing in the ruins
