we ran some ideas: associations with the bible & mythology nothing really insightful...except we found issues about why there's children frozen on eden

and then why did the king try to use the power diamonds

and then came up reincarnation, evolution for the first part and then for the king, something like a karma for his intention to betray nature and result to a totally artificial power source, causing a disruption..

now that i think about it, the power source was so extensive of its energy requirement it could've created a temporary void of light, so a black hole basically

now that i think of it...eden could've been like a nursery...where the children learned and frolicked. and then the darkness came not all of them could escape, some turned to stone and others managed to go to the home island, where a temporary space was set up to help them on their journey back home

i would imagine that candles across the map are like a primitive energy source compared to the power diamonds, they were lit by you, powered by light (the stars).

the problem was they could extinguish...maybe that's why the elders wanted a different power source to sustain their growing civilization...

Had to rewatch the Intro cutscene because I forgot part of the dialogue.
"If only they had listened" this sparks my curiosity badly. It seems like Megabird (or whatever bigger entity looks over this world. I will call it megabird to make stuff easier). It seems like the stars fell thanks to darkness. And we see the temples being built, with Eden tower at the middle (which is also connected with two strings to Forest and Valley. Eden might have been their "capitol/main city"). It seems like Megabird only calmly watched as their fallen stars thrived in their homes at the clouds. Yet as time passed something bad must have been brewing, Megabird tried to warn the fallen stars but they did not listen. Boom, downfall

Also the drawing representing the skykid is blue and after Megabird gives us light we get golden details

If I try to relate this to spirits, you seem to release them from a body made of stone after reliving their memories.

@plush moon this is interesting, i have an idea for this. What we thought of the elders might not as pretty as what we think. Each elders have their own role, i just tell it briefly, it'll be too long.
Dawn elder act as a guide to the lights that was reborn from orbit that fall to the ground, and redirected to the clouds, and yes the light creatures go through reborn as well, this can be explained why those light creatures went up to orbit like skykid.
Prairie elder make a sanctuary on the cloud to the light creatures, nurture them, grow them to manta and so on. He capture them inside the jar and transport it to forest elder.

Now here is where the the works happen. Forest elder manufacture the power stone. I agree with the theory the power stone is man made, but the question is how? There's a quarry to make the power stone in forest so we kinda guess that is how they were made. Now what is it made from? The forest elder cut scene gave us the hint, the source is light and stone. The light is from the light creature that the forest elder got from prairie elder. Their light were drained and pressed in a stone.
Velley is a civilised city. And a place to entertain the king.
Move on to wasteland. You remember wasteland is underneath the valley, we fall hard from the clouds and we went back to the ground. This is the dumping site, the place where the lifeless light creature were thrown away. There's bone in forest, there's bone here in wasteland too.

What's special about the Eden diamond tho?

Why did it cause so much damage?

Was it really large?

Maybe carved from the mountain and the death of a whale...that's why there's a skeleton in the vault?

But the light wasn't enough so it started to go out of control...and started creating a void of darkness in it's area as it searched to sate its unstable existence, depriving the close lands of their light

The surge of energy pulling light towards it created a deadly storm which destroyed the complex which housed it, destroying eden

Edit: I realize the connection to a supernova maybe it exploded

Then came the lightning -- since the diamond was extremely unstable due its size and complexity it randomly discharges light in its immense power capacity

I would assume the creation would be a monumentous event like man landing on the moon. There was a celebration in eden, the elders gathered there and witnessed their destruction and their collective horror was specifically transmitted to each reborn child to express their horrible mistake for their lifelong mission (opening scene)

It took much of their power, so they lost their light. And their masks became cracked.

However they are like the whales ancient and powerful and they managed to cling to their existence through their connection to the land and it's people

That's why when you free the spirits you can free each elder

And their monument holds a vision. They are deeply connected to the place.

However their loss triggered a chain reaction: the collpase of the civilization

Of course some places were less effected than the others, those places of industry were more affected by darkness like Eden, the wasteland, and the forest

Places that largely kept their balance of creatures managed to survive without as much damage like the priarie, valley, and isle

So the creatures were the saviors and they kept the legacy of the civilization intact, creating an opportunity for the children to learn, adapt, and prepare for eden

The butterflies, mantas, and jellyfish helped us return the order

And the stars back to their rightful place

I assume that the stars represent heaven, a key place in their evolution there. A chrystalis that's why we see many of them there ascending with us

In the end we are alongside them like them to be reborn and to change alongside our people, the elders and their ancestors

Of course some may have to stay there -- they don't have a solid form to return home with but they can manage and wait for you there in their everlasting determination to help their people

So we learn our humility and our relationship to the stars we need them...they are a part of not only our life but the life of the entire world.

There the children learns the mistake of the elder and rectified it first hand

The ascended candles we receive there directly translate to prosperity and growth (of our wings). We musnt seek to conquer nature but to be in harmony with it.

I think that the capes are a recent development to be more in tune with nature. It is associated with flight, Ascension, heaven, and freedom we shouldn't be focused on machinery or success but the clouds, scenery, and fellow living beings

The dev also said that he wanted to make the area dream like not like a real world but in the same time not isolated to the real world as well. The elders succeeded on building a technology, storing and projecting memory similar to a hologram. I think this is what the dev meant. As we fill up the power crystal with light, the crystal shot a beam of light and show us the constellation on each floor. What we see in the vault is a hologram of the creatures, and like a library or a museum, stored artifacts and bones as a proof of the creature existence.

The bones that we see belongs to the elder manta, the projected hologram shows that the elder manta have 6 pairs of wings, the bones have 6 pieces. Although some say that manta made from light, manta do have bones, the location to get the manta call emote reveal that to us

the vault rib cage in your first picture and in graveyard are simply way to big to fit inside the cosmic whale or krill or mantas

the manta call is weird, we use a manta call to get the cosmic whale call (or elder manta as you keep calling it, that thing I don't believe is a manta, big mantas are wider than that) above a set of bones that don't match either of those creatures

interestingly enough the ribs that the call is around most closely resembles the rib cage of the tuna king/whale but the skull is a turtle skull that matches the circular ribs in wasteland, the whole thing is weird and just doesn't match up

maybe mantas and cosmic whales leave skeletons behind that don't fit inside them when they die? IDK but we have spirits when they die leave behind statues of themselves (note: same size as spirit) and the tuna king/whale leaves behind a skeleton that would fit inside them

Oh yes I was going to say, it's my personal theory that when we visit the elders we enter their "personal realm/world" like how when we approach the big ball of mantas in orbit/aka the megabird we enter orbit, and how when we die we go somewhere by ourselves with a single winged light there (or the child of light if we die in eden), I believe that vault is the technological example of this, they managed to use darkstone diamonds to produce this effect that's why there's spirits in there, candles, even animals and buildings, even how we teleport from wasteland to eden via the vault

So I don't think the bones are holograms, the spirit creatures.... I didn't think they were but in retrospect I see no reason why they couldn't be holograms (also no reason why they can't be spirit memories either) I'd say there's no proof either way
