The light built the children for a specific reason

To serve the light

Our mission was to bring the elders back home to the light, and when we approach them in their cutscenes they are seen to be dark and not filled with life or connection, it’s as if they hit rock bottom. In the concepts “connection to the light” was a big thing and it was said repeatedly. Connection to this entity of life and light. Well as you kno in the cutscenes, it’s jus a bunch of random events and no one really knows what is happening but......in my theory
I think our way of saving them and bringing them back home is reconnecting them with the light using our flame. We offer our flame to every elder and when we give it to them, they seem full of life again, they glow and each one demonstrates what kind of elder they are but overall
I just think we saved the elders and brought them back home by reconnecting them with the light

@sly kestrel What I came to conclusion is that sky kid’s mission is to get elders back to home(eden). In intro of game it says “Wake up child, bring our lost stars home”. And all stone kids are the previous life of the kid. And since the eden is unbeatable. Only way one can clear is by dying. So, I guess kid fails the mission to bring them back and goes through reborn, repeating the cycle again.

Following up with @sly kestrel the Elders are also depicted as "adult" or show to be more tall and "grown up" than a Sky Kid. It might also be a little hint to how real life children are far more full of joy and creativity than adults. The elders come to us gloomy, toned down, no spark, and after the Skykid gives part of their flame to them and they light up, and show us their skill. (like Isle Elder and Forest Elder, these are the most obvious to me). Also Valley elders seem to always keep their energy lol.

Apparently someone had advised them beforehand what to do and what not, but they didn't listen and caused them to fall to the clouds

So this is my personal interpretation of the squiggly constellation lines on the group of figures at the bottom: it's meant by ancient sky artisans as a way to simply symbolize that there's crowds of people. The same way a constellation=a grouping of stars, having a collection of figures connected by the constellation lines=a large grouping of people. If that makes sense!
You'll also find real world artists of ancient history would find ways to simply signify groupings of things. Instead of having to paint/carve/draw/chisel every single one, they could just draw a few instead to symbolize 'the many'.

i'm getting more interested in the idea that the child of light is the king, and that all the skykids are connected to the king somehow, what with the intro and the friendship crown-constellation

I think we're just all echoes of him

he uses the collective "we" to refer to himself

I think he just split himself into a bunch of pieces to come down and save the fallen

And when we drop in Eden, we get supercharged by embracing the lonely glowing kid that represents the aspect of him/ourselves that remains in space

My current theory is that after falling, the elders wanted to find a way back to the stars

So they built up their civilization, eventually culminating in the Edenstone that could collect everyone (in their light forms) and return them to the collective unity above

But drawing that much light also drew the darkness/storm, and when your whole civilization is floating rocks, a storm is a very bad thing

So the Edenstone got damaged, the civilization got wrecked, and only those who were close enough in Eden (the Eden elder and anyone with him) was able to make it out before the storm cut everything off and started wrecking the place

So the Child sends fragments of himself down to try to guide the spirits of the fallen back by collecting them and then braving the storm to make it to the Edenstone

When you go to the wasteland and get ambushed by the krills, the sky is completely clear after the initial fog with no darkness for them to hide. After the krills appear in the ambush location, the krills in the cemetery still roam it, meaning they haven't followed you. So this opens up the possibility for my theory: krills are able to hide under sand or the dark water(the last one being the more likely), and their hiding spots are the places where they take their prey to

Theory on Children of light(Winged light)

1. I think they are the unfortunate ones who didn’t get a physical body. As you can see in intro several lights were descending(after the fall of stars aka elders and their downfall of civilisation) from clouds and only one kid emerges.

2. They were meant to be one entity but somehow got separated while descending and scattered across all realm. That would be the reason why when we collect them we get more flight power.

I was doing yesterday's quests when I realized "relive this spirit memory" and "melt 10 darkness" had a correlation!

• When you light a spirit, the game registers it as melting one darkness. This means every single darkness we see throughout each realm were formerly spirits, and their memories are now lost.

• This is further enforced by the crying spirit in Hidden Forest when we see spirits trapped in a cave. As the memory goes, they were trapped in a rockslide which forced them in the cave, eventually they died and turned into darkness plants themselves after outsiders failed to relive their memories. Fortunately one spirit survived long enough that we can observe what happened in that cave.

I see. The animation reinforces this. You light the candle and melt away the dark form to reveal the bright spirit inside. This correlates with Eden and the beginning: darkness destroys.

when we free the spirits, they go towards the end of the map, where they wait for you to pray. Then they rise up to the sky and take their part in the constellation. so i would assume that we free them twice: first from the darkness and second from the earth. then on, they have passed on then u can visit them from home or at their gravestones.

you can collect wax from bestowing light: by freeing the spirits or lighting candles (or walking over lighted candles)...and then a certain number of candles (therefore hearts) is taken to free the ancestral spirit?

He mentioned that bright orange colour is represent as the light or goodness for example the butterfly, manta, quad wing light creatures, the elder manta in vault and also the tuna king, and slowly transition to darker colour which represent corruption or darkness; the crabs, dark plants, the krill being most corrupted or darkness because its black.

So that come to the theory that we skykid belong to both world, skykid is grey and yet we harvest the light and capable of using the light power aka cape and we also shine. The elders are dark blue and grey, darker colour, which suggest that they are darkness or corrupted. I see that the elders are dead, not necessarily corrupted. They are spirits, which is why they can be summoned through the constellation and be seen in visions.

@plush moon my personal opinion on this is the winged light that we collect is the soul of those frozen child at eden. We return their soul to the body and release them to orbit. Tho i haven't think of the connection in the whole. So i stop at that.

@plush moon this is my fav. The illustrator also mentioned that we the skykid are the descendant. I'm guessing from the one and only Children of Light/megabird/shiny boi/the flame, which inherited both world traits, light and darkness. Tho I'm still making a connection on where the darkness came in skykid. So we have the same capability as the flame, the power to harvest light and to free entity from darkness.

@inland narwhal I agree....but what confuses me is why they weren't reincarnated. In every other situation we don't leave a body we dissolve or something. Why were their bodies there then. Are they something else?

We can handle darkness...maybe that's what allows us to survive...survival of the fittest that and our ability to create new bodies...Anyways, if we are dark too long our lights start to die and then we die. So to some extent we have traits of darkness or we can be compatible with darkness to some extent. We don't freeze up like the spirits did. We just turn gray...and then die...and get respawned
