My theory: During the Wasteland era, the gunk. Malice or Darkness took form of the plants you see, and the crabs too. If it’s possible, krills are made by large masses of darkness or things that drain light that made the krill, or it can be corruption. At the eye of the krill it does recharge when it is ramming something so krills can die if they don’t consume enough light, but at the beginning we see a krill arising from the swamp. So I’m guessing that krill hibernated.

personally idk bout this but the spirits memories I think are the ones closest to when they died or got petrified there, so krill being around and all when the spirits were alive. I think its kinda saying that after the darkness hit everywhere some spirits were out trying to survive the krill and then died there. im probs just saying something that everyone already knows but im still processing it

These spirits I think were carefully chosen to resemble the closest personalities of an elder.

Well we can see that butterflies are imported in barrels to the temple. The only thing I'm not convinced about is that the huge thing on the top of the temple I actually used to press something because when we meditate it looks like it's activating and it doesn't go down

But if diamonds are created by butterflies compressing I can guess that natural sedimentary layers can create diamonds too

I don't have any but I think the war wasn't between the Elders

The door to eden (the one that needs to be triggered by 5 different switches) it's decorated by what I assume are the Elder's symbols

All the elders must have been on the same side to build a door together

There must have been another group of spirits that found the Elders and spirits we see in Sky

(Traveling spirits and Seasonal spirits seem to travel to other places so why not believe there were other groups)

There definitely was a war that happened in the wasteland though. There are broken shields and spears littering the landscape as well as what looks to be anti-tank fortifications. Given that the krill can fly, and the crabs could just go through them, I think the war wasn’t necessarily against the creatures of darkness, rather between other inhabitants of the world of sky, possible from other islands or continents. I think that the dark creatures only came to inhabit the land long after the war took place because of how the land was scarred and destroyed by the war, leaving it a place where darkness thrives.

I’ve also noticed that in the wasteland there is, instead of water which does no damage to the sky kids, a dark sickly oil of sorts that appears to have come through the pipes that are scattered broken throughout the land. These pipes only appear in the wasteland itself so I think it’s possible that the inhabitants of the wasteland could be an entirely different people altogether than those of the other places because nobody else has anything of that sort.

Maybe the war was between two inhabitants of the same island who had a territorial dispute in which the winner took over the dilapidated ruins that they left, but were eventually destroyed as the dark creatures moved in.

I also think the spirits in the wasteland are people who tried to explore it long after those people were destroyed, but they were almost entirely destroyed by the dragons who were such a new threat that there was no way they knew of to avoid them for the most part

So they stay there to teach the new inhabitants of the land (us) what they knew about avoiding the dragons.

Ooo I do think the war happened because of that. And the broken tower in the battlefield with the big plant could probably have used to be a watch tower where the lookout spirit is. And probably as he was calling out for incoming danger, the tower was broken down by the krills.

4 the hatted figure appears to give a star to a figure with a headdress like that in vault

5 headdress figures kneel and deep bow to the star encircling it

6 the enclosed circles form a symbol given to other, plain headed characters

7 The symbols show 6 unique designs:
a triangle with line through, similar to the "air" alchemical symbol
3 curled lines, possibly representing wind
Possibly representing a water droplet 💧

My take is that this is how light is used by the spirit society and downfall of the Enchantment Ark specifically. From the raw star light being caught by floppy hat folks, to bring refined by the headdress folks into certain colours/symbols, and then how the ark was struck down.

Note that the symbol on the Ark, similar to the seasons motif, is similar to the big broken thing where the playfight emote is.

The way water affects our light seems inconsistent, however, I would like to propose a theory that "fixes" the consistency.

Firstly rain in forest reduces our light, but the standing water and rivers do not.
Likewise in prairie and isle, the water does not reduce our light.
More noticeable is the ice rink where you can literally go "underwater" (I'm thinking the skykids made of stone/clay counters the "why don't we swim" inconsistency there)
But the standing water in wasteland does reduce our light energy.

A theory is that the water in prairie and valley is "purified" somehow, and so made clear, and the wasteland ones are unpurified, having some extra sludge in it.
Wyatt suggested maybe the bells stop the rain and purifies the water in prairie, as we see bells in forest stop rain, and kanpai suggested the the purity of the earth clenses it, but wasteland has too much impurity for it to work.

Sorry for the wall of text again, tldr : impure water hurts us, water from rain gets purified somehow, bells purify water / stop rain.

i also thought that the reason why they choose red for the spiral light is that the element fire is usually known as red or orange (mostly red) and fire makes light, and the red light lit up the symbols on the ark

I said before that I doubt the ancestors jumped into a gigantic vortex to access their big industrial city, so even wasteland’s location must have been higher up in the clouds before its downfall

if they were trying to restore the city then maybe they were caught in the storm surrounding it

@woven tundra i think that's the most probable theory we have for the spirits, they came down to the wasteland probably because of the storm from eden

so the crash could happen either after or around the eden storm formed.

I want to say they crashed before the eden storm formed, but as time passed on, the storm was formed and the crabs grew in population, perhaps because the storm enhances the dark creatures in some way

so from the link that @woven tundra provided i saw that maybe the lightseekers people gave the vault people the elements, the vault people contained the elements in orbs (circled in blue), and the vault elders are giving them to some people (perhaps specific ones they trust to do a mission)

So the forgotten ark event should happen not too far from the time the eden storm formed

@woven tundra in my opinion i think that the rock is actually an egg but the reason why it’s just one is because the other eggs are buried underground and more crabs are rising the crab population so the people had to leave

Ok since the season came out, time to dump what I thought. Maybe all the spirits in the ark were going to wasteland to either restore the land their or the krills. We see in beta what happens if we complete the green light mission. And the blue light to restore polluted waters. Purple light idk, heal the krills or something? I think purple would be the mind or consciousness

so i did some searching and since these orb lights are based off elements i think purple MIGHT have something to do with the spirits it’s self. i say this because in the element charts i’ve seen with spirit as an element have purple as their color. soo yeah... that’s what i think

what’s weird is that they don’t have mouths to eat

so if they grew corn they just going to have to stare at it and say “yay i grew corn”

I didn’t think of the color symbolism in religion, although I do think of it because if i can recall the purple light has a symbol of an eye, like the psychic or mind

It would’ve been cool if we could receive an ability based on the element light we catch instead of hearts. Not too op, maybe that would work like potions that have a cooldown but is not a one time use
