They’re not poisoned by wasteland oil or (afaik) forest rain. Other than wasteland, they’re hiding in abandoned nooks (river caves, forest temple back corner, valley/vault mazes). I really wanna draw a connection between them and big plants, but there aren’t any near the battlefield one....

From the middle platform in the centre of the ice rink, fly up to the left of the bird statue, the Emote is high up on the side of the mountain to the right.
moths try to look for the bird statue and it isn't there any more so they get understandably upset
I show them how to avoid flying off the edge into the ice rink and walk along the ledge at the entrance to access the hip stance emote using less flight power

K i have a stupid theory today. Normal water has no effect to skykids (you can swim normally at nearby water). Since your light is drained at forest due to rain, maybe it's not normal rain. It's a Acid rain (like water in Wasteland)

Well I wouldn’t be surprised about acid rain bc of the large amount of industry in the hidden forest, it could’ve polluted the sky causing damaging rain
And I don’t think cold affects us bc we can go under a frozen lake (ice rink at valley) and not be bothered at all

that's a sensible theory, this is a stupid theory:
we learned from frozen 2 that water retains memories. the forest spirits show a lot of negative emotions (anger, crying, getting trapped in a cave etc) and their negative memories have been absorbed into the water and that is what damages us.
same goes for wasteland, which is a place with lots of death and destruction and unhappiness occurred in the past, so all those negative memories are in the water there too.
isle, prairie and valley mostly hold happy and triumphant memories, so the water there doesn't harm us.

About the frozen lake in the Valley.. Our skykids walk and jump underwater as they would above ground. And what was said about memories being trapped in the ice. Haven’t frozen lakes been a depiction of darkness for a while? And then, underwater, near the wing, there’s a boat (but there are boats everywhere in the game) however, I believe the wings are a form of the spirits who fell in battle, so maybe where they’re placed could be significant to the storyline?

@hushed steeple I dunno, I always thought that the winged lights were somehow related to the sky kids rather than being a form of the spirits, since they kinda resemble a small capeless sky kid. I’m not sure what the deal is with the lake though!
Another thing I noticed is that compared to the other realms, the buildings and structures in Valley are in great shape. Anyone have any ideas about why?

I always thought it was because it was built recently.. The Wasteland and Valley have similar structures, so a lot of us thought that the Wasteland was the old arena.
But the again the diamond press is there when you encounter the first krill..

Maybe part of Wasteland’s structural damage was just krills/whales smashing into everything— too cold for them in Valley, or high enough that the air is too thin for them to fly
I keep wondering whether the Valley race section w/ solid walls and no windows at slope level might’ve originally been canal/river, since there are narrow crossbeams overhead like pedestrian walkways between (now sealed) buildings— doesn’t explain the downhill location on Stadium tho
