oh yeah true
eden would be a lot more hellish
i like how the seasonal spirits are in orbit now
like we rescued them and we get to say hi and theyre like "thanks for saving me heres some wax!!" ;w;
;;w;; that’s technically all of the spirits but still that’s so cute
omg just imagine playing this for such a long time you just finish Eden and met all of the seasonal spirits you encountered
ill definitely won’t forget that uni bird guy
having flashbacks of when i was still a wee baby

amen to the new players who don’t have to deal with that unibird spirit
ANYHOW
yes the megabird
i’m getting moltres vibe despite having no similarities between each other
( beside both of them been well...... birds? )
they’re made of ... fire???
i .... guesss ????
I saved a image of some beta map layout where it looks similar to this and on the map some of the clouds had the label “secret” on them
*i can’t find it cuz I have 9,000 photos saved my device
Ooh shiny

Are the Sky Elders, Spirits, and Children/Kids of the same race/species/ethnicity/generation?
Seem to me the Elders have the most power, experience, and influence during their lives as shown by their creations.
Spirits seem to be able to use and manipulate creations of the Elders, but not create at the same level.
Children can use creations, receive blessing, but can’t directly manipulate or create.
That’s a good point- how widespread is magic use in sky? We see some of the vault spirits being able to levitate but was that s common talent or only for certain few?
@spring blaze that's really cool to see!
thing about sky is that some things, we dont know of theyre beta left overs or if they still hold meaning to lore :,)
Behold secret areas in a concept map
kek
There’s a theory or two about the kids/spirits/elders. One is the kids a hybrids between the two (concept art), another that the spirits watched the elders fall (first mural), or they fell with the elders (intro/Eden), that the spirits couldn’t make candles like we can (crying cave)
But if the spirits couldn’t make candles with star magic how did they use all their technology?
how could spirits not make candles?
They’re scattered around the realm so they definitely did make candles
But they can’t pull them out of nowhere like the sky kids
Their tech was powered by light I think, hence why the elders take it from you to do something with it during the cutscenes
I think there’s even a emote in Prairie where you see them gathering light
Ok sorry, but are the valley elders canonically twins? I thought both were female
(Low key thought they were GFs but I guess not??)
I think it’s up for interpretation!
See I think sky kids are the candles essentially. It’s a symbolic pulling the candle out to light stuff, but they are the light itself.
mhmm especially if you remember the scene before your kid comets down to Home
_that red candle scene _
I’ve been wondering about the winged light. People say the krill eat light, but they don’t. When they hit you they knock the winged light out of you - then the winged light goes home. And in places the winged light is in full view of the krill, it’s not eaten or attacked.
To me that means the krill are guarding the winged light - protecting them from us! And I do always feel a bit bad taking their light.
Has anyone tried to do Eden capeless?
ive done eden with 3 stars if that counts
finished it with two because a krill knocked one 1 on the way
I think the krill just eat the light energy itself - the type you collect from light sources to recharge your cape - and that seperates the skykids from the winged light they pick up
The krill are described as hungry by TGC, i don't think they would try to protect winged light from you
The krill may not eat the winged light, but the crabs do
Wait do crabs attack winged light lmao
yeah. they see light, they eat it
^ krills
like the manta in the first krill area doesnt pop up again after being attacked. it was definitely eaten
With that being said, it's a bit weird how the krill don't just eat the light sources
Yeah
flame is different from light itself
its a source of light but its not.. light, if that makes sense
I think if Krill literally monched on all light sources, most of us would be in a krill's stomach
maybe it's more absorb
In the bit with the first krill in Wasteland there’s a winged light right under the krill and it ignores it
maybe krills dont see the stars idk lol
Maybe it can't see it
What if the krill are knocking out the winged light to feed their babies (
)
The krill don't react to calls
And then they hit us they don’t eat the light, then just knock it out of us. You can lose light hitting a wall at speed, it’s the same
well since we are light they see us. they probably intended to eat us but like
it backfired
hmm
maybe they dont see the star kids. maybe we were.. given the vision? to see them
maybe the winged lights deliberately scatter? so the krill can't eat it and you have a chance to get up and recollect it
after all we were made to bring our lost stars home
theres a theory of where star kids are (winged light) soul fragments
too bright must put out
The other thing is... how come the winged light don't wait around if they're knocked out of us. It's like they're stunned for a bit, then they come to their senses and run home asap
idk in the graveyard area, in the exit where we see the birds fly? the krills dont see that either. they like ignore it
That’s more gameplay element than lore
yeah
true 🙂
how annoying would krill be if they shook you for all your light dbjdbfjf
It does feel like us and the mantas and spirits on one side, and the krill and winged light on the other tho
I'm sure they'd love to
Winged light restores light to capes though
They're definitely not made out of darkness
well, i mean. if we get hit and the light doesnt return to us, thats gameplay element yes. but thats also asking “hey why doesnt the star kids come to us when we’re right here”
I don't think they can move tho
Maybe they're similar to the spirit memories?
but the ones in eden, they like sitting there by the hallway waiting even though theyre so close
They could contain memories of trauma then
Or maybe they're just resting in the end
It's hard to tell and i'm not sure if we're meant to know - at least just yet
after I do eden next, I'll lose all my stars and then go back, see what happens
dont you have wing buffs
it's going to be hard not saving anyone tho
wait so become capeless then go to eden?
once you enter the final area you’ll just die. theres nothing special
probably
i went there with 2 stars and they all got knocked outta me. so once u lose ur flame energy since ur capeless, you’ll just die
did you start the last part with no cape?
When you're capeless, you only have your flame to live with
If that is depleted in the last section you'll just die
so once you’re outta flame, you’re dead. nothing rlly happens
Ah, the point would be to go capeless, and start that last part with nothing. You die pretty instantly at the end. If it's true that we're basically stealing the winged light and the krill is there to guard it, then by doing that you put all the winged light back, then go back to eden.
...and probably nothing at all happens, but hey 🙂
I don't think we're stealing the winged light
We're meant to save the fallen in Eden
To do that, we bring them their light again
And the krill seem to just be wild creatures made of darkness
yeah
What’s the coelacanth then
I guess it’s like, borrowed power more like it
its the whale nova
but.. then we have some extra afterwards if you managed to go thru all the statues with 109 stars
what if eden is 3 am,,, every other place seems to have a time assigned to it.
eden is probably midnight so maybe
Isn't 108 winged light the most you're supposed to get right now?
isle = dawn
prairies = day
forest = rainy
valleys = sunset
wasteland = dusk
vault = night
eden = midnight???
i feel like 3 am is scarier tho
how do you get 108 stars????
I always saw the winged lights as fragments of sky kid ghosts. They are Light (in the proper noun), so they power and replenish cape energy, but more potent. When we give the winged light back to the statues in Eden, I think that completes the sky kid ghost and they are able to return to Eden, and then reborn.
I wonder what kind creature the bones at the wasteland use to be
(Friendly reminder for all to keep things on the topic of lore
Gameplay-related topics and questions should go in other channels)
Ah, my bad!
That wasn’t meant for you @hushed steeple! There had been off-topic conversation earlier
I think the winged light are Soul Flame not Soul Fragments, it takes the shape of a kid because it was previously inside a kid? I think the winged light respawning to their original spots is just a gameplay mechanic than lore.
It is interesting that krill don’t eat winged light like krabs do
In Journey the mechakrill straight up bite your cape and eat some ripping it from you, got to go back to previous levels to collect again
maybe the winged light going back to their spots is bc theyre bound to those places for some reason, like the spirits. so theyre drawn to the spots they originally fell to ? and collecting them to add to ur cape is like holding them in a jar
But in Sky.. it could be they don’t eat the WL because it’d make the game harder, or extremely lore intentional considering what happens in Journey
Maybe we’ve not being paying enough attention to the name “winged light”, not “winged star” or “winged spirit” but light
They break instantly when exposed to damage, so maybe they’re just energy? Not parts of souls just pure megabird energy
Edit: text wall warning
To go back to an earlier topic, we see spirits collecting light (birds and stuffing them into pots) with a firework staff and iirc there’s a butterfly net but do we actually see any of the spirits use candles
I don’t think they could make candles with star magic like we can because if they could the crying spirit shouldn’t have died
They could have hugged, high fived, or just yelled at each other to recharge then pull out a candle and freedom
Also of note, why do we have spirits we need to help in Valley, Isle, and Praire? There’s no krill there or signs of destruction that would have killed everyone so how did they become statues
It’s like the darkness came all at once everywhere but Vault and Wasteland
Like they all lost their connection to the megabird at the same time and that statued them.. Maybe the Eye of Eden breaking was even worse than we thought?
Eden was the height of their civilisation, once upon a time that Eye was supposed to do something other than kill. An artificial connection to the megabird? Trying to reconnect to orbit and the MB?
You might be right, @hollow pier , some kind of device.

- what’s that megabird meant to mean?
- OH MY GOD E. D. E. N
@obtuse vapor
- That is a question this channel is trying to figure out (among others
)
Ah I see
anything thats acryonymised automatically seems foreboding
A Phoenix
^^that honestly makes sense. metaphor for rebirth and all
@obtuse vapor the megabird seems to be god, might be the narrator, is definitely where all star magic, light, and creatures of light come from
im p sure megabird is the narrator. at least, they were originally intended to be based on the earliest versions of the beta
I remember looking up the beta intros and I don’t think 🤔 there was anything that implied megabird?
We can see a megabird mural around the gate to office
We have no ties except for the ending
And the home statues in every level (or so) are of the megabird
before it was changed, the megabird would fly over the isle of dawn and wake you up. matching that with the narration, "Now, I call to you. Wake up, child." it seems to heavily imply that it was our giant birdbro who was talkin
The current intro has the one entity not fall when the other six constellations do, I call that a potential megabird reference
Wow
That wasn’t the megabird in isle beta just a guide bird that turned into our first winged light? Wasn’t it?
Do we have any other evidence
Maybe not /the/ megabird but an extension of its influence?
I was just thinking about that though guide bird though that turns into winged light
And @brazen ledge that’s exactly what I was thinking
Hey we got another bird but it’s in the winter season
So maybe winged light is just part of the megabird’s light?
if we run with the phoenix thing, that's another entity associated with fire
i do like the phoenix theory
I think if all the spirits and kids are part of the megabird/Phoenix that nicely explains how we rebirth and avoid true death (mostly)
Yea just a cycle
So while the megabird never dies we get those sweet Phoenix powers
But it’s passed on right
And there’s like colours for the cape and different designs to it
I wonder how
From what I understand, in Chinese mythology the fenghuang (similar to a phoenix) is also associated with Confucian virtues, which have to do with stuff like altruism, honesty, knowledge, manners, all that good stuff
Phoenix-looking things crop up a lot in different mythologies
So they’re birds that can be reborn?
That's like the key phoenix thing yeah
but they do have slightly different appearances
Hm.
when i first came across eden in this game, i instantly connected the word eden to bibilical description of “garden of eden” i wonder if this mean, eden was once a paradise then something went wrong and eden is now dangerous place where statues await to be freed
21: what IS the seasonal quest spirit?? who are they??
((this is my last question tbh))
21: A Nomad, probably.
21: They're named clyde!!
:0?? theyr'e named clyde??
oh cool
oh
welp, i'll just call them clyde too
@hushed steeple That's my interpretation
also a serious question, does the cut scenes have voice over like telling story or something?
especially ones in temple?
~insert own story here~
Why we got a whole thread
So we'd stop taking over the general thread
Or the Eden thread
Just general enough to know the basics, but not too specific as to tell you outright...
Just realized, I haven't listened to the cutscenes that closely... Is there specific music for the cutscenes? Is there sfx?
theres no voice over thats for sure
Also just realized, they must save bank not having to localize text and voice overs
special cutscene music plays. if i remember is that the valley elder's music sounded playful?
The way the mountain for the flight race is split down the middle is kinda like the statue/grave of the Valley elders
how did the mountain get split?
yeah!
it seems like they built stuff post split? since they have bridges connecting the buildings sandwiched on to the mountain
probably?
Ooooh! First experimentation with forming light into larger crystals?!
A mini Eden, if you will
Like the red ones?
No, like the crystal in Eden that went thermonuclear
Would explain the scientific looking area before it
mmm there is some weird gravity going on in citadel with the floating orbs and the buildings falling apart with bits floating in the air so maybe
Would explain the pageantry, with the huge walkway 'n all
?
walkway???
Or maybe, aquaduct?
it has clouds in it though,
Light creature pathway
maybe they harnessed the clouds lol
oh it could be for boats?
thats true
Boats!!$$

Its always those freakin boats!
the boat in ice rink could have been for air travel rather than the lake?
if the ice rink was ever a lake, the boat would have been a bit big and clunky
Boats and butterflies!! Its all these jerks care about!
Also, clouds came after much of the time, it seems
thafs fanart
@waxen galleon made it i believe
yup
i can see why its convincing though ;)
The idea of it
we dony know that but its a possibility
I'm prescribing to the idea of a rising-cloud levels/sea level thing
from Shira's beta album for Valley
Also, first time I saw that mountain, I went on a weird "OH! The mnt. from Journey!" headtrip
But I can't fit it in... No matter how much leeway I give myself
Hmm, it's not an area most people experience on a first playthrough
Probably on purpose, lore wise
Headtrip is now my new favorite word
I thought it was the slogan of this thread,
"Post your late night headtrips here! You're among friends"
Yep
My gosh, have you guys ever realised that isle temple is basically an enormous ship?
Or the first big ship. Ran a ground, and slowly an island built up around it. And due to the significance of it, they build the temple to mark the sacred ground. 😱
He could well be!! He could have been the one to bring all the other elders, and why, significantly, he used to give you your first cape, he welcomed and equipped you to enter the lands.
i mean, he might be travelling with the other spirits for many, many years
Hence his appearance before and after you give the light to him
Need to find what the land around temple looked like in beta otherwise I’m just combining two separate threads of the lore that don’t combine.
Yes!
Mhmm! Might ask the old beta testers about this
I knew its something very different from the current one
Like there used to be snows around the Old Isle
Plus I don't recall a ship in this one ( though there were flying boats back then )
Yeah. I’m sure I watched videos. It was all land bridges etc.
Mhmm!
Hmmm. Detective hats on. I’d be so excited if there is some sort of ship evidence in old beta!!
this ship has to be ancient though since the one in Wasteland looks very modern ( especially with the metal scraps in the Shipwreck )
🔍
Its clue hunting time!
Go go go!
okie dokie
Try looking at what Shira posted ( like, from: ShiraCheshire#2956 has: link )
there we go
;3 shira provide some nice stuffs about the Beta so
dabs
That’s exactly where I’ve just been looking! 😂
L o L
Hmmm. No real evidence, but no angle of the temple that could provide clues either
Mhmm
probably recently added or something
but at the same time it might not be a ship but who knows
Going to have to hunt YouTube videos down.
It might not be but I’m choosing to believe it is! 😂
X'D same honestly
Isle Elder the Captain of the Se- Sky!
👀 Or Sea who knows
Oh! And one thing,
Both Isle Elder and the Salute Spirit both has the firework staff
meaning that staff been used when at the ship

Yes! Like a distress flare or to signal to other boats.
Mhmm! plus theres like boats in the ship ( well technically the boats are every where, except for Vault )
The rock with the star kid, also resembles a large ship. That has been weathered by the ages...
the one in Isle right?
Yeah yeah!
Thing is, trying to draw clues from the environment is virtually impossible if the environment has changed dramatically over time. I mean, I wouldn’t recognise isle if the old beta suddenly loaded up. At all.
Though I wish it would! To experience the old stuff. Like archived files that you could just go and play.
Isle temple from above
Metallic glitch but do you see what I see?
Reminds me, in the room in Prairie where there's a workshop, there's a half-built boat and you can see the internal construction. The outside is stone, but there's a core of a gold metal material running through the boat - presumably this is what makes it fly.
Could be could be 🤔
It’s too... precise. It can’t be a natural formation. its got to be a ship
great hair
I wonder if there is anything in the side cave, that could be inner workings of the ship...? I don’t recall anything but cave but a close inspection
Required
Hmm tried to go inside those holes but no luck
I mean the cave on the left of the temple... with the dark plants inside. That looks positioned perfectly.
It's a ship with lifeboats!
@zealous sedge Hehe, In thumbnail form, it looked a little like a duck/pelican head wearing a big stone crown, attacking you through the clouds. See, the little portal as the eye...
OMG!! The MEGABIRD!
In that side cave, there’s a tiny tunnel btw. Don’t bother going in. You can only do it if you’re a chibi - I used a shrink spell, went in, and it’s a dead end. (And I think went afk for a few minutes, the shrink spell ran out, and when I came back I’d grown and got stuck!)
It is the beak of the Megabird!
Oh .... but look....... back end of temple
DEFINITELY A SHIP
Cargo exploded out its back end?
👀
but yea you say a ship but with no water
Isn't it more half a ship? Isn't the rear end kinda open if I remember?
yea
I’m just going to put these photos into one post now, so we don’t have to scroll all over to find them.
@hexed turret the boats fly in Sky 🙂
yea it's sky after all
Mhmm especially if you remember the boat in the prairie three bell towers
Especially that mini cutscene with the the waving spirit, well, waving at the spirit on the flying boat
||Office too||, I'm counting it
There were flying boats in the beta, there's one in the office still, and there's actually one in Prairie still, although it's OOB and broken
spoiler tag it
you look cute with the hair
(No need to spoiler tag here, it's the spoiler channel...)
i forgot lol
Only spoil ||Megabird|| from now on, it'll add credence to his legacy
ppfpffp
And mess with new guys
hehehe
@zealous sedge wait, that ship at the back of the temple. That's too small to match up with the bit at the front! Is that actually a docked ship?
@zealous sedge And really, good catch!
Amazing search there Boon!
It bulges out inside the temple.
Ooo, last-ditch life boat to escape from eden?
thats the lead
Orr, they were planning on using the eden crystal as the engine
When Eden blew, blew the front half of the ship all the way out here
That grated window area seems about the right size...
They built the temple around the ruins of the ship I reckon. Hence the middle section inside sort of disappears a bit....
yea it would've been infested with crystals by now
@zealous sedge The middle section with the door? Or the elder's section?
This has been so much fun! Though people were chirping at me as I was exploring. Thinking I was lost or something I imagine. One was doing the no emote at me. 😂
Elders bit
Too thin there
Thinking thats where the big engine/crystal was/would of been
Yeah that would happily fit.
@zealous sedge at least nobody tried to follow you! Had somebody I think was doing eden for the first time follow me up a cliff and get stuck before 😬
Oh no!!! 😱
Went for a look 🙂 Actually the back does look connected to the front from up here. It does look like the ship got wedged on a mountaintop somehow and the temple was built over it
(how come the temple is only half built tho?
incomplete I guess?
Wonder what might have interrupted the build ...
Or whether it is just, the game. We’re not supposed to look backwards. 😂
But then the level of detail in the buildings around valley that you can’t even access...
Looking at it, there's probably technical reasons why it's like that
they wanted the solid front, and they wanted the back with the windows, and they didn't want a corridor it takes 10 minutes to walk down. Solution: cut the castle bit in half, push the windows room inside, hope nobody flys over it to take a photo 😉
Who was it who was going to write the lore out? Perhaps we should notify them to our discovery.
See I’m going to be really conscious of the boats I come across now. It was only because I finally found my missing star in the cave through the clouds. Was flying back and realised it looked like a ship.
I fly up there a lot, never noticed it! (It's so nice flying all the way to the top of that cloud wall, then just flying slowly down, you can glide for ages!)
more like decay
Whoa that's high
@hushed steeple since this channel is to discuss lore, screenshots like this one should go in #screenshots-and-videos
Am ok thank you 👌
@zealous sedge this was probably the first version of isle
You would go through the mountain, sit at a shrine to receive your candle, and climb all the way to the temple
The grandpa cutscene was the boats one, and after watching it they would appear on the sides
And you would sail through the clouds and arrive at the starting cave/hub in prairie
Unfortunately, I don’t have better pictures that show the terrain under 😄 (especially that last one lol)
That.... is so beautiful though. Thank you for sharing!
I could look at beta photos and videos all day. Recognising bits, others totally alien to me. 😍
This was another version that was in-game for months
The terrain was all different but it was still a climb, and at the end the steps changed many times but they always ended up at the temple here
The base was a weird circle (ignore the glitched effects lol)
And the end cutscene was pretty much what we have today, but I can’t believe I don’t have a single screenshot looking back during all those months
Definitely doesn’t resemble a ship in any of those. Thank you for showing us! I wonder if they chipped away at the environment to reveal a little bit of lore to discover?
Isle was the level that changed the most by far. There were 3 major level setting changes I think, but almost every update they would change something small too. Maybe they were figuring out how to tell the story of the world but also create a friendly tutorial environment
In a recent livestream they said they changed to a more open level because of that, and also giving players the cape at the start of the level (before you would get it at the very end, during grandpa’s cutscene)
So it’s hard to say 😄
I would definitely consider the current level more when building the lore theories, because it’s the version they decided to keep
And the boat detail is so cool! Nice catch discovering that
The beta version looked so crazy pretty with all the mountains and the climbing, but now it's just sand and dunes...Tbh I prefer the beta version more just because of how...full of life it is, even if it's also barren
Current Isle is nice, but it also feels quite barren to me compared to beta
Thanks @crimson grove, I love seeing these beta versions of the world!
^
about sky language, this symbol is also on spirits and jars. I'm assuming it represent "one" "thing" "us"
and there's two different writing system in sky: one only used by ancient ancestors, mostly on ancient object in sky world and elder's outfits; another one, which is the simplification of ancestor's writing, used by and for sky kids, mostly are those on outfits and the vault cutscene
sky kids are learning these writing by studying written ancient words but don't know how to pronounce them. The ancient language is lost (since sky kids can only call in different pitch but elders can sing with language, the credit song)
i also disagree with @humble barn 's idea that "◇" and "M" are punctuations. The prayer wheels don't have punctuations on it, and most old languages don't have punctuations
and i don't think different sense of rotation of pyramids will result in different meaning or effect. I think the direction is arbitrary or designed for aesthetics. But i do agree we should read them from right to left
another thing these pyramids can be related to is Stupa
note that Tibetan prayer wheels are cylinder, and pyramids in sky are cone. I would say they're the combination of stupa and prayer wheel
this explain why they can make sound or rotate or can produce miracle events. It's very likely that the spirit of ancestor is stored inside
Hopefully we can know more about Sky languages if Vault can get a major update
(disclaimer: i'm not a linguist either)
How do you folks interpret the Crab Call lady’s story?
Like, apparently she takes a stroll through the crab lair before heading above the pipes towards the exit, on which she looks at what seems to be an unconscious, dead, or just really tired guy.
How does her story relate to the call she makes?
I mean, the bird call guy was trying to, well, call birds to him.
:0 maybe the crabs gave her magic that made her unconscious at first!!
Can’t remember it but maybe he’s been knocked out by crabs and she teaches the call so it doesn’t happen to us?
Maybe the crabs are just so annoying or memetic that she just ends up picking up on their sound
She could also be a scientist, to maybe find out why the crabs are angry or something like that
Theres always at least one scientist
Here’s an interesting question to keep everyone going, last week’s Japanese live stream that’s pinned says each of the spirits in this season are related to seeking light
But the wording is ambiguous whether it refers to the seasonal spirits or the “relive this spirit” daily quest spirits
All of the spirits were connected to light-seeking in some way, like the spirits in Prairie who gather light with the staffs. IIRC though, the season event focuses most specifically the seasonal spirits tied to that activity
Kinda reminds me, the seasonal spirit in the golden wasteland looks like some sort of ‘outlander’ or ‘survivor’ of some sort.
Imo, of course
hope there’s an archive for all the spirit stories
Hey how does one get to ||the sadilite in the office||
That would belong in #questions-and-help @leaden gyro
Yeah I put it in there too!
@jade galleon The punctuation idea was a less likely guess for me too. We don't know how old that (possible) writing system was in Sky history so I cannot put that in mind, but still, there are only 8 symbols and it's unlikely that they bothered to cover 1/4 of those fancy golden spinners with punctuations hh
yeah that's too much
A new thought: there's a diamond shaped hole on each gravestone so ◇ also could be "life". (Loss of life = Death)
BTW why do we see gravestones in the halls of the valley?
they don't necessary to be gravestones tho, they can be just a container of a piece of memory
like oreo
won't say that's a gravestone
Yeah I am just assuming that those are gravestones.
Considering the setting of the races in valley maybe it's to honor champions or something like that?
Do we have to consider Oreo as a real thing in Sky? Thought it's an Easter egg like the office
I think it's just an easter egg
Or maybe the world of Sky was set far in the future, in the galaxy far, far away. All the earthly things in game are real but in the past
I don’t think he’s a real thing in sky
I wouldn’t count any Easter eggs as part of canon I think
About the graves having diamonds all the elders have the diamonds on their chests too! They look like the old designs for the core/soul thing on the sky kids chests
iirc the skykids still have those on their chests, its just harder to see them now
Actually we have a diamond on our chest or on the back when we're capeless
huh! i'll have to check next time i do eden
time for someone to go capeless
👀
the cores don't really have the diamond shape anymore?
nope ?
yeah, the diamonds dont glow anymore, but the pattern is still on the tunic
!!!
its so faint but its there 👀 that has to be intentional
So they have changed the chest light to a sphere but left the diamond patterns?
i think i noticed it in weird lighting, it def. took a while before i was like “hold on...”
yup!
Oh fun fact
We still do have those things
They’re inside of the player model
Shrink down
You can see them if you manage to clip the camera just right
Let me see if I can find an image
omg
wt
its so tiny how do u even notice that
I was stuck in a hole and I was like wait a minute what’s that
that’s .... so tiny
Oh so that's what the dress thing the kids were wearing under the cape...
That's a tunic right? Never figured out what it really was
Huh cool
I want my high rise pants back from winter
Yay I learned something new!
the high rise winter pants are a look,, i love them, and the little boots,, that seasons theme was a performance troupe right?
Yeah!
Winter is such a bland name :/
When you had a director, an actor, a dancer, a juggler, a musician, and some???? Shopkeeper dude
Lol
bringing oreo up was just trying to explain what those monuments do
i miss it
so much
For now we can be sure that "◇" can refer to any single thing in Sky
He wouldn’t be the same :(
I’ve never really thought about language in sky
The only thing I’ve seen really was the bells and like
The vault elder mask
sky language is too simple now
TAT i know !! He looks like a nice lad
i don't think tgc had really made a language system for sky yet lol
Was hoping it could be finished when they actually adding knowledges to Vault
its the kids halloween costume version
well,,, no one out there is teaching them
or maybe that mask been used for the vault spirits , not the actual Elder
that or too lazy to do the details XD
@jade galleon I got it. I just think they are gravestones in the sense that they are memorial stones for deceased, and not the living (ignoring Oreo here).
diseased?
*deceased
we need a morse code translator stat
it’s probably just a keyboard smash if it was translated lol
yeah i think thats light simulation that's seeping over the hill
a guy can dream
lol
i know its too fast but dang wouldnt it be cool... tgc get on this pls it would be rad
I found an interesting thing that I just wanted to share
Apparently the male gender symbol, which was also representative of mars or iron, is originally a spear and shield. Similar to the constellation. Makes you wonder if there are any other symbols irl that are similar
Ngl that crab is looking at you very menacingly
You can see it thinking "mmmm ankle"
Interesting! wonder if there's any more
suspect that's a glitch tbh, but I'm kind of surprised no hidden messages and such have been found. It's so much fun putting an unofficial Easter egg in stuff 🙂 (There's the office, but that's more of an official thing.)
I realised nothing has been said about the giant pots in Praire temple
If butterflies and birds fill the smaller ones
They are so tall! I think Ive pased through that place many times for the smiley candles but never thought of lighting up the way.
They could be storage pots, because they look too large to be carried around.
Actually some of them are still sealed, right? with black wax or something
Wasn’t it a beta thing, you had to melt the seal off pots in some areas?

There are also large pots by the walls near the entrance, but they do not appear to be sealed
they look like glitches
Then those big pots are just ominous as HECK because either A: that’s a lot of birds and butterflies or B: they’re stuffing mantas and jellyfish in those and either way C: these really show just how messed up their economy of making those power diamonds was
I do wonder why they couldn't just use the raw light itself and they had to use light creatures for it...
Like the seasonal lights
@hushed steeple seasonal lights?
The ones that float around in the levels you have to catch
Ahhh I believe those are the spirits themselves, you can tell they’re the same as normal spirits because they have that timer for being in the rain
The big yellow ones?
What big yellow ones, the ones above the boat in the isle cave?
the ones the quest giver asks us to catch
OH THE HIDDEN LIGHT
Oh! I just realised the orbs above the isle boat are the same as hidden light
I am inclined to think the light is not natural
I feel like they’re-I was about to say something similar
Baby darkness plants are also fermented butterflies
I guess darkness plants are vinegar and hidden light orbs are butterfly wine
orb = spilled wine
Regarding the big pots I think they were not filled with something larger than their mouth, because they probably needed the creature to be alive and glowing (so, my guess is A). The dark plants can catch larger creatures, and this could be another suggestion of the plants being man-made plants to collect light.
And I agree with C.
maybe that exploitation directly or indirectly caused the collapse of civilization
I really like how the Isle has those wall drawings that the spirits look at as they tell you to go to the temple.
I got all of the emotes (except for pray) back in the last aviary days though. I’m not sure if other emotes have the same wall writing revelations as well.
I want to know how significant the Valley activities was for the spirits, and what the war was about.
i heard that the drains we have now in isle was the same as in in a beta
Hm...
i love that the chrome bug makes u see things that's hidden
Yeah which is super nice
Oh! The symbols on the platform thing on the upper left! You can see them really clearly
Though I doubt they really mean anything in this case
;;-;; sorry to break it to y’all but
😭
what happen to him
who did this ?!
if it the crabs then curse them !!
TGC pls why you gotta do this to our hearts with the sad spirit stories
tries to remember the scene with the mom and her child on her shoulder
pfpfpfpf
^Yeah same
I think the higher level emotes don’t really reflect what happened to the spirits
Like the cry tantrum probably doesn’t sum up how that spirit felt
I’ve always seen the emotes like our child’s perception of the spirits and their emotions
Like oh, they’re just sleeping.........
YO ACtually that’s a good way to put it
: U oh yeah
just like how the writings in Vault mask looks slightly compared to the one the Vault Elder has
google is just really bad at translating Japanese
believing to be the sky kid who actually wrote it
yeahhhh translations definitely off
i need to see the curscene sjfjsjfk
TAT same !!!!
hence added the suggestion of watching the spirit cutscenes over again
just for this moment
Please
us lore seekers must know every single details of the spirits’ lives
or lore gremlins???
idk
XDDD
does anyone have the screen recording of the past seasonal spirit quests?
not that i have them sorry
all on youtube https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Sky+spirit
Buried bus?
bus everywhere
apparently they're moving jars around the world with boats
They're sky boats, but how come they're buried? Did they fall out of the sky and crash at high speed? Or have they been there a very long time? (They seem to be made of stone so would last, but that one has a light on it, indicating it's still got power, whatever the power source is)
disaster happended
that's also why there's no living ancestors
a disaster that could end the whole Sky world
you could assume they fell out of the sky a long time ago, and with time have buried like in isle
a fallen kingdom setting is appealing me
What we need is an archaeologist
season of lorekeepers????
yes, no umbrellas next time, just a shovel and a BIG shovel
tbh, if we could get a shovel and excavate stuff I'd be playing Sky for years
ME TOO
owo
@thin flame please repost these in #screenshots-and-videos with a spoiler tag as these images aren’t related to a lore discussion
The crying emote shows spirts with pickaxes similar to how the one shows a spirt with an umbrella, who knows >->
I think the whole Sky world has been shattered, like a supercontinent broken apart.
Home is like a separate continent; which is why the teleport gates are necessary.
@humble barn the big pots might be for bigger creatures, in isle when a spirit catches a bird with the firework staff it turns into a light orb
Something similar could have definitely happened with bigger creatures, and there’s those freed mantas in forest temple but thinking about forest temple and those creatures of light maybe they’re just flying through because they felt a breeze for the first time in years, or maybe they’re flying through because they detected the power diamonds activating, like how the krill before the wasteland temple
OR MAYBE a new theory and so far my favourite what if all the birds and mantas are flying towards the temples because the megabird is controlling or guiding them to guide/help us?
Or maybe they’re not helping us, maybe it’s the migratory return to the megabird, maybe the life cycle of all creatures of light is birth, migrate to the megabird, rebirth
What I thought was larger creatures probably cannot be put into those pots alive because the larger pots have small mouth.
I think they needed them alive, but it's just my theory! I remember that bunch of butterflies came out from the pots alive in the prairie elder cutscene
Hey, sorry to interrupt. I just wanna share a video I made with a compilation of all the Elder cutscenes!
Felt this might be useful for future lore discussions
thats great thank you!!
I wonder what the origin story before the fall was, whether the ancestors were made by the megabird, or one rebirth mantas evolved into the ancestors, what did the ancestors even do in orbit? Where did the ancestors get technology, they wouldn’t need any in orbit I wouldn’t think
I think « light » whether it be originally megabird light or not definitely converts into creatures of light and vice versa, that seems rather canon anyways, so the mouths of the pots are probably a conversion tool like the firework staff allowing bigger creatures into them
All praise @modest skiff part of the megabird
Whaa
That's possible, and it's also possible that mantas were really soft and can be squeezed in somehow
Like Genie and the lamp
I believe that’s probably also true because we clip through mantas and they can also fly through land
Maybe creatures of light can’t fly through the forest trees/what diamonds are made of and that’s what pots are also made of?
@modest skiff can you repost that link again with the description of what it is? I’d like to pin it
Sure!
Here’s a video I made with a compilation of all the Elder cutscenes!
https://youtu.be/F45tApENkew
I think @hollow pier ’s compilation of lore theories should be pinned as well. It’d be useful for any newcomer who wants to get a summary of what has been discussed already.
*partial summary so much has been theorised since I made it
I think the stone pots and Forest wood have different textures, though the colors are similar
But maybe not? I should jump on the tree tunnels and see how it sounds like
Well the forest trees are definitely a different texture than the diamonds unless I’m mistaken
I meant from the stone
I always love jumping on the tree tunnels, and I remember them sounding very solid, but not quite as rattley as the pots
I am jumping now and yeah trees do not make clangs
Yeah lol
I also see some birds and mantas flying through the stone walls and columns but probably those are visual glitches. The stone pots should contain the creatures right
But pots if made from trees would be a processed material oh I just made an assumption that they process the trees to turn into the diamonds because of that concept art where they purify/concentrate/treat darkness into tech
I think they did, like they processed the butterflies
I think stone was a natural material in Sky, although no stone quarry has been found in Sky so there's no proof.
what’s the tree in forest made of tho
i can see there’s rock everywhere in sky
and why there’s a muffin in prairie
why candles in small cave
why temples, who/what do ancestors worship
A long time ago a giant made a huge muffin. He dropped it and people ate the muffin from inside
The muffin got hard over time but one person with a yellow cape kept eating it while he collects butterflies
yellow stone?
i would say that’s a colored stone
looks pretty
When I saw that yellow inside that boat the other day I felt like it was showing us something important
yeah, especially because it's under or inside the stone boat
I thought it was a foothold at first but it was not
Found these above all the shelves in the room after the vault elder cutscene
Right before entering eden
ooo chunky candles
Chonky
:O
Candle envy
Wait, what are all these candles made of anyway?
I don't see no bees anywhere
I’d assume wax
But what kind of wax!
We're getting into the deep, deep, late-night kinda lore now
The candles are the solid state of Light.
I was googling and found that people were making candles from whale oil
I think of candles like batteries for Light, or whatever magic-tech the elders use.
You guys made me check wikipedia! During the Middle Ages and earlier, tallow candles were most commonly used
its probably the same sorta candles we see ingame
Oh god! Its people!
manta candles...
I like to imagine the kids make candles and place them around the world for others who need light.
^
Candles are made of light childrens!
D:
omg
SO THE WAX IS JUST
D:
SKY KID REMAINS???
Thats whats Edens for!!!
D:
Maybe like
I think almost any long-chain polymer can be used as a fuel source.
They started out with candles
They just want us for wax!!!
And then evolved their tech to create us
Soilent candles!
Soilent?
Soylent (green) Candles!....It's... It's made of Sky Kids!
Ever wondered why sky kids wear masks and why their eyes are closed when they don’t?
I have!
So they don't have to endure the image of the burning remains of their ancestors!
Ohh god, the Skymanity
Ok, I've had my fun
are children clairvoyant or
whats that
extrasensory perception, a visual one
Do have that third eye...
owo
Apparently, they could see things with their real under-the-mask eyes closed.
or maybe their orb in the chest is the eye
Hehe, I'm having to much fun sorry
Wheres the mouth
Noses are canon atleast
it looks like an arrow pointing up lol
it's a reddit updoot
whales and dolphins also can use echolocation (bio sonar) and they use their noses to make sounds
and their noses are located above their eyes like our third eye
my sister's third eye is darker than mine maybe she has rhinitis but sadly i have to deny this idea because seasonal masks have no third eye
Were getting into matrix level canon here
idk whats going on anymore LOL
Ok so megabird, b o a t s, manta being shoved into tiny pots, Sky kids dead remains being turned into candles, and now, third nose eye vision.
Just lore channel things🤪✌️✌️✌️
had me fooled for a sec!
This is EXACTLY WHAT I WANT OMGGG
That wing is really cool tho 👀
It's a Photoshop art by a Japanese player
I’m sorry if I’m interrupting anyone, and I’m sure everyone is tired of boats, but!! Yknow the yellow part? It seems like it only appears in what’s either the front or back half, unless I’m glossing over some other boat. On the same note, aren’t boats usually split into chunks with rather clean cuts? Maybe boats are made up out of several parts, & the seams tend to be the first part to break
ohh it's like the middle of something
maybe it's a diamond? like the ones from vault and that's what keeps the boats floating?
Maybe it’s something similar to the lights at the end of the cave with the lightseeker spirt in dawn?
Actually, aren’t those above a mini boat?
Yeah!
it could be something similar! it seems like most of the spirit's tech is powered by light so it'd make sense if the light orbs from this season had something to do with the boats
In the Isle temple, you see tiny boats holding three candles on each wall
The yellow stone inside another boat!! cool!
I'm working on a spirit stories archive. Still only have part of the emotes from Dawn and Prairie but I'll try finish it asap. I decided to not record the stories from seasonal spirits, because I can't ensure the recording has clear enough info, and walkthrough can be easily found on video websites.
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1pyhkgOnhiODM45Ys0ivMStANwtU8z64x?usp=sharing
that's awesome!
wow thank you!
maybe theyre not diamonds under the boats but probably some energy thingymajigi that holds light so the boats are able to fly?
bc for boats i can imagine that you’d need to have to direct it right? vault diamonds, as far as ik, can only hold/bring things up (ex the gazebos in flying race, the bridge in final area of forest, the elevator)
like they have a set position they need to be in and from what we remember, vault holds info so it would make sence for the vault-like diamonds to remember where things are supposed to go (hence why the bridges in forest are able to be held up despite being broken down: the vault diamond remembers where its supposed to be)
if that makes any sense?
yeah it does!
^^
or am i just overthinking skfkslf
good goood
so bc of that, the boats probably have a specialized tech that allows boats to be, well, boats. enter weird golden middle thing
it has the ability to hold the boat up but riders can also guide it too
the little fin looking things on the side of the boat seem to be what helps control the direction
yeah!
i feel like the boats having a diamond could be convinient. yknow to remember routes and stuff
but who knows
dude!!! no one talks about the isle spirits!
Maybe they could slide in a diamond into one of the holes in the curls, magic gps ahaha
the come with mee feels like it's asking us to come with them skdkskd ans they all sit around murals
wait
THERES DIAMONDS ON THE SIDES OF THE BOATS
MAGIC GPS BABEY
adding my headcannon to my lore files
pffffft
sometimes i feel so smart
Hgvhs this is v ery off topic now, but maybe the little boats store light in a more physical form that makes it easier for the folks that make the boats to turn it into the yellow stone
thats true!
Um idk if this has been said yet, but I don’t think the diamonds are controlled by only tech. in the vault we use that telekinesis emote to lift diamonds ourselves, to open the door, so I assume other ancestors had this power to control the diamonds too. Then again there are the other diamonds that are held permanently without anyone having to control it. So if it is tech, then why make it if there were ancestors who can control diamonds like we can?
I’m incredibly sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m quite new to sky lore
that's a good point!
i think the diamonds that we move in vault for the door are being used like tools rather than us having a more direct interaction with the door if that makes sense?
like we put the diamonds in place so they can move the door
i thought of it more as the diamonds moving the door? because it's pretty heavy
the diamonds are the tech that the spirts have made and they utilize it to power other things as well i guess is what i'm trying to say
Yes
But I mean why make the diamonds have that GPS system, if there are ancestors who can move them? Or maybe only some of the intelligent ancestors can move them so only they’re allowed in that room
Idk I’m sorry😅😅
not rlly a gps system, more so that the diamond remembers the route?
the routes the boats will go
What if it used to be a REALLY important room? Like there is a gravestone in there
Oh yeah ik
mmm i see the diamonds on the side as more of what powers the oars and makes it float?
^ i was thinking that too but couldnt remember if the boats fly or not
rhey do
they do
im beta they did
They probably just go in the direction they’re facing
i sort of remember a spirit memory in prairie's village area where the wave spirit was waving to a boat that wasss flying away maybe
yeah!
Mhm!
(I wish there was a boat race)
i feel like the only boat we dont see submerged in the earth
is the one near the workshop at the cave
like its just sitting there
and it looked parked too
And even that isn’t a full boat 😂
OH
not submerged at all, literally parked on the side
RiGHT
YEA SKDKSKF
THEY ARENT BROKEN
FULL BOATS
THERES EVEN POTS ON THEM
they're kinda covered in earth iirc?
POTS
also about the boats following a path thing is it possible they go along the routes of the birds? sort of like boat going down a stream?
(Pots make me 😦 thinking about the creatures stuffed in them)
from shira's beta album for isle
so instead of water currents, air currents ? that sounds plausible
Except the stream that their facing just ends in a cave with a dead end:(
literally full boats parked on the side
i think the wider end of the boat is the back
like rhe backside i mean
Yup
so those boats are facing front
They’re facing the cave
yep
I wonder where they go
i also noticed a neat detail lol. the diamond flips out when you do it
idk if is known or not
ugh dang discord
Oh cool nvm
they flip when we light the thingy up
Nice!
Definitely oil in Wasteland
Also, boats have definitely been there a long time, moss has grown over this one
But if it's oil wouldn't it combust when we walk through it?
Probably not. Highly inflammable oils like gasoline are volatile and can't stay on the ground for a long time, and we usually need a high temperature to ignite a liquid oil
It'll be a thin surface layer over water too
The colorful pattern we see is caused by thin film interference so probably there's a thin layer of oil on the surface of water.
I can't believe I never saw that oil shader before 🙂 But it's only visible when the camera is very low down
Um have you guys talked about why the wasteland is how it is? If so can someone fill me in on the theories?
I know this is just meant to be a hidden detail, but since we are in the lore section, why do you think the graves get a glow ‘only’ when the candles are lit?
@obtuse vapor It has been, can't remember them all, but waste coming from whatever eden is was one of them. That makes sense to me, since the pipes seem to lead to eden, and some sort of gloop is coming out of the bottom of the pipes.
Does anyone knows what the red lotus-like thing in Eden is? Why is it there?
What’s with the white giant fish?
What is below the prairie cloud filled space?
What’s with the spirit with the pots in the cave?
So many things I don’t know!😵😵
Red lotus thing? The giant white glowing diamond? It’s a broken diamond ♦️ like in vault or anywhere else, it’s shooting out broken pieces of itself or something
Oh that reminds me
Maybe the red crystals on the ground in Eden didn’t grow but they’re broken pieces of the diamond, and it breaks into shards like that?
I don’t know why this never occurred to me before, maybe the storm around Eden was a lot worse to begin with when the diamond was still at full power, maybe that’s what caused all of the kingdoms to fall and the spirits to die, bonus theory: maybe that huge burst of light is what called the krill
Also noteworthy we only see the gold metal in the back of the boats
So I’d definitely agree that they’re propulsion and the powered diamonds are for flight
Ohhhh if the Eye of Eden burst like that maybe the giant hail of red rocks across all the kingdoms is what sucked the light from the boat diamonds and made them crash!
Perhaps there wasn’t a giant storm that destroyed everything just a giant hail of rocks across all the kingdoms
Propulsion, what made them move forwards instead of just up. I can’t think of another plausible explanation for them otherwise
A giant hail of rocks would explain why most of the spirits are doing happy everyday things and why the spirits are trapped in statues like the kids in Eden
Wasteland spirits would have come from inside the vault in this theory
Spirits lived in the Vault? It just seems like a giant library; not much living space...
not rlly live but ig stayed in vault? scholars and stuff
I'm still wondering if it would be possible to access Vault memories, because I assume that they keep them within those floating lanterns in the shelves
lightseekers ending if anyones interested. super cute!
@hollow pier Found another diamond! Further proving our earlier theory
And owo what’s this?
Are the diamonds and other glowing stones a more concentrated and powerful source of Light than candles?
In maybe order of increasing Light density and power:
- Plasma (fire, flames)
- Melted wax (from individual candles)
- Solid red wax (candles made from lots of melted wax)
- Solid blue wax (seasonal)
- Solid white wax (ascended)
- Stone
- Crystal
Why stone? The rest makes sense, although I'd say fire was energy being released (which you can use to warm up / recharge), and wax etc. was stored energy (more like a battery you can use later)
@modest skiff harmony
?
i think they mean stone as a solidified version of light that's not as concentrated as crystals??
@rocky wing @spring blaze
Yes, stone being less dense or concentrated than crystal.
Less organized or structured would be another way.
Ah ok, makes sense from that angle, but I've not seen it being used as an energy source in the game? It always seems to be flame or crystals
Yeah 🙂 But when there's a theory, we need to test it - if there's stuff in the game that goes against it, it can't be right and needs changing. In this case I'd agree with all of it except the stone, which I'm not sure about. (Note: not sure, not saying it isn't, just I can't think of anywhere where stone seems like an energy source - it always seems to be fire or crystal (or maybe the gold metal in the boats and such?)
Stone can be used to contain light
Such as the pots containing butterflies, and the elders’ tools
The pots are just pots I'd say, but the elders' tools definitely seem to fit 🙂
Also boats, which are stone, can hold light
But that also could be attributed to the diamonds lifting them up with anti-grav
i don’t want to interrupt but i wanted to say some thing about the krill room djdhdjbdmz
slides in
I've finished archiving emotes in dawn, prairie and forest. Sunset, dusk and night coming will be done s∞n
