Iirc, playing music using external apps or radio (silent mp3 works too) can lock the scale on the instrument (because scale change is determined by bgm change?). I need to look more into this to be sure though. If this works, it will allow active control of the scale so you can play any available scale anywhere.

It’s a lot more work to play a song that way :< Kinda wish that adjusting scale and playing sharps/ flats are easier than it is atm -.-

I can confirm that playing any kind of external music (silent or not) will lock the scale because the game's BGM gets muted

That being said, locking scale is a client side thing, meaning only you will hear it

Everyone else will hear the scale changes normally unless they also lock scales themselves

Three ways to play songs:

1. Use a song sheet you can get from some of the emote spirits (permanent and seasonal). You play them like a rhythm game.

2. Plunk out songs you know or make up! There are two octaves, so there’s a lot you can do

3. Reference a song chart that other players have made. There are a few different systems people use.

@snow raft it’s not exactly the same as playing the song sheet version, but there’s a chart with the notes for that song in ABC1-5 format in the forum thread that’s pinned in this channel

It goes a bit longer than the song sheet, although to play the whole version it helps to be in the area of Forest where it plays because of the key change, though perhaps you can adjust the specific notes yourself

@tight mesa you can deal with that in 2 ways, either remove the sharps, making the song still work but sound a little empty, or you use "accidentals", replacing the sharps with a different note. Using accidentals can make it sound a little off, but you still get the correct riff and correct number of beats.

@hardy pilot The whole love like you song, its was not too and repeats abit so it was easy to do. There are some parts that dont sound perfect (again im using accidentals) but it should sound fine with enough practice.

Love Like You, as transcribed in the file above. I can’t play very well but it was easy enough that I don’t mind showing my pitiful attempt (I did make a mistake at the end there). 😅

just know that B3 (or any circle+diamond shape) is the first note of the major scale. So at Home it'll be C because that area is in C major. For other places like the one in my video, i believe that note was G because the room was in G major!

That’s a place to start, you can pretty much transcribe it in sky from that alone.

Sky common goes, starting from the top left going from left to right, C D E F G (top row of buttons), A B C D E (middle row) F G A B C (bottom row).

So it essentially start on the far left of the image (the C with the B# under it) and ends one note after the image (just after the B with the Cb under it).

There are no black keys in sky when playing the C major scale (when playing songs on the island hub)

If need to play a black key, like a C# replace it with the C next to it or the D following it. Might sound a little off but still usually works fine.

@slim pond as long as there aren’t too many accidentals in your band music, you can do it! Whatever the base of the scale is (e.g. the G in G Major, C in C Major), that becomes A1 in Sky (using the ABC1-5 system). Base the rest of the notes-to-button transcription on that

@frank apex You can play at least the start of Moonlight Sonata though, you just have to use the B1 button as the root of the scale (B1 to C3 is a minor scale). But you would really have to tweak the song since there’s only one full octave and parts of the lower and higher octaves.

These are the keys of your keyboard (provided you have a western keyboard 😕).
QWERT is the first line of Sky’s piano: Q = A1, W = B1, etc..
In other words, just type on your keyboard as you would tap on the screen in Sky.

@supple shell if you have a music sheet in Western notation (C D E F G A B), then just tell the program “western” and then type the notes separated by spaces. Beware, you also need to indicate the octave (3, 4, 5) with the note. And Chords are notes glued together. So you type for instance A4, B4D5, C5, etc.
Warning: when I say “chord” I am talking of several notes played together, and the name for the chord is composed of the note names glued together (eg A4E3D4). The program does not understand chord names used for guitar or ukulele. For instance F has no meaning for the program: you have to give it the notes names.

The notes hold better than any other instrument when your in temples/good acoustic areas, and everywhere else you can still play fast
