I think it’s just based off a low octave harp to compliment the normal harp in game. However, there are such things as bass harps, they are wacky looking.

@green comet the dash just means play them quickly, right after the other. it should be played anywhere where the pitch is higher, where it sounds “brighter.” so far i quite like candle cave in prairie (where i played it in my video). it doesnt work in wasteland and vault sounds...okay. havent tried anywhere else yet

Some nice music spots anyone? I usually play in Valley’s castles that lead to race 1 or the orrery if I wanna be alone or under the ice rink while moving (I like messing w the elevated octaves) but I also do stuff in the sunny Forest and the 8 person puzzle in Prairie

the small candle cave in prairie has good acoustics. i like the cave you first enter when you spawn in isle, and the big rock in the clouds with the star in it at the end of isle (thanks to the person who suggested me that place)

@fickle mason My guess, in addition to what @hot heath said—This current layout is one of the very few ways to have even rows with evenly included notes in each octave. With a fairly simple layout, it can be much more easily memorized visually, in a way that a piano keyboard or actual harp strings aren’t.

@hot heath You have to do it manually, but A1 and B3 are the base of the scale, so whatever the base of the scale of the song is that you want to transcribe (a D in D Major, C in C Major, etc.) make that your A1 and B3 and off you go.

Yeah unfortunately; it's kind of an orchestral type song with a horn as the main instrument for the melody, but horn in Sky has very few notes

@remote python Okay yeah I think I see what you mean. There are different instruments playing different parts, and those parts take turns being the main melody, and meanwhile the harmonizing parts add a lot to the melody. I had a somewhat similar challenge making a piano version of Nascence I play in game, so if I did Madder Sky I would probably do something like I did for Nascence. I would pick what I thought was the main melody and then play that most prominently. So if the melody was eg B3 but there was a harmony that was C5, I would choose a chord that better supports the B3 more than the C5 so that it becomes more dominant to the ear. If a harmonizing part plays a different rhythm to the melody, you can try either having that be a single note to the melody’s chords, or play the melody as a single note and the harmony as chords.

Mostly, I think it comes down to trial and error figuring out what chords work, and which combos are most essential.

#

If I had to Sky-ify that song, I would probably start with finding the single-note melody on harp/piano that best matches the actual song, then figure out chords and supporting parts from there.

#

But there may be other and possibly faster or simpler approaches.

Useful Tip for Writing Music in Sky
This method I made helps to simply notes that contain 4 or more keys that must be pressed all together.

Here is an example:
The set of notes [A1 A3 A5 C2] looks like this visually, when pressed:

0-0-0
-----
-0---```
So rather than writing [A1 A3 A5 C2], you let the reader know that:
```[*.**] = [A1 A3 A5 C2]```
When the reader sees this, they will remember the keys they need to press because it looks like the keys visually! And it doesnt even have to represent it visually: it can be a word or phrase that the reader will memorize as a set of keys.

The music sheet would look like this for example:

...
B1 B2 B3 [.**]
B4 B5 [.] [*.] B5 C1
C5 C3 C1
...

If more people use this approach, it can reduce the time it takes to learn a new song and cause less confusion while reading large notes.

I don't really know the 'key-specific area'. But you can always transform a song into its C Major version. Some song uses flats/sharps too though, so you'd need to compromise.

That’s a feature that isn’t currently in the game. You were able to teleport to a random person somewhere in the game.

@rustic prairie Hello there person who posted ages ago! You asked if there are song sheets for actual songs in the game. There are! At least two of them are actual in-game song sheets you play like a rhythm game. It’s the 5th and 8th one. 5 is from one of The Valley emotes, plays a main theme. 8 is from one of the season spirits and is part of the flute-harp duet in Forest. There are also two player-made song sheets at the forum that’s linked to in a pinned message here. One is a more complete version of the flute-harp duet, and the other is the main Sky theme.

The song in the credits is pretty new, so if you want to be the first one to transcribe it, the glory can be yours ; -)

(There may be another in-game music sheet that has one of the theme musics, sounds a bit like a music box. But I’m not sure if it’s currently available or part of the future Winter season.)

if someone’s using any letters other than ABC, they’re probably using mainstream letter notation (A-G) to talk about the notes that should be played. sky-specific music sheets only use ABC and 1-5 (afaik at least)
