@viral sphinx The iOS version doesn't have trophies like the PS version (and I don't recall if the PC version does). One thing to check is Game Center > Friends to see if you encountered anyone. It should match Companions Met Along The Way that you see at the end of the game.
But the cool thing is you can check during the game to see who it is instead of waiting until the end.

You appear in a sand dune as a lone figure, and there’s a mountain in the distance, and the game unfolds as you walk to it. The way you interact with people in it is really great. It’s designed to be a short game, about the length of the movie, but it can be replayed many times, and you can see something new in it with each journey. It very deservedly won game of the year in 2012.

It's not a TGC game. It was created by Giant Squid, whose director is Matt Nava, formerly of TGC. The soundtrack is composed by Austin Wintory, the same composer who created the Journey soundtrack. It's fun and beautiful.

If you are on PC try checking if you have any connection attempts using Window's Resource monitor - you should see Journey.exe strating to exchange a lot of traffic with non-Amazon IP. If you see this - that means you are having conection problems like some other players do. In that case you can write a report to Annapurna support.

I can’t handle the controls in flower (on iOS). I mean I can once I’ve done about a level or so to work it out again. I use the touch controls rather than the tilt. But for some reason I need to relearn how every time.

There is no option in game, it’s about timing, coming through same portal at the same time to try be in the same server. Worked first time on my first play through with this person, but half an hour of attempts the second time. 😂

It’s nothing like as heart racing as Eden for example though... maybe that’s just me.... even though ||WM and krill are very similar||, I don’t see WM as being anywhere near as fear inducing.

Just replayed Journey and it still stands up as being TGC masterpiece. I didn't expect to meet anyone on the PS4 version after all these years but I did and we completed the whole game together right up to the end. I noticed a few minor tweaks to the game, but thank god they haven't updated it or turned it into a 'live service' game. Its perfect.

I’ve had loads of fun on iOS playing. I’ve since got a PS4 with the game but it’s easier to grab iPad or phone to have a play than interrupt the evening family tv viewing time to play on PS4. 🙂

Only if the controls have been fixed and you have a reasonably recent device. I found the controls appalling (much worse even than what we now have in Sky) and the graphics very gritty. Nothing like the experience on the ps4.

When I played it, my main difficulty with the controls were that I kept trying to use Sky controls. I played it on a newer iPad though and didn't have any problems with the graphics, so it may vary by device. But even as a port from the PlayStation, the experience is still a pretty powerful one.

The first time I played it on my iPhone X I did find the controls a little...what's the word...less manoeuvrable? I couldn't work out how to long call, for example. There was recently an update, so maybe some of the initial control issues have been addressed. But generally, the game is worth it! But if you have a PS3/4 that is perhaps the most preferred version.

Thanks @glad axle for posting that link. Whilst I don't understand Chinese, I was able to follow the message well enough and there is enough English on screen to see what he is saying. Really interesting, and fascinating to see the amount of unseen work that goes into these games. My daughter just finished high school, putting together an amazing portfolio of art for a game concept so it was great to see a similar process being played out in the video. Very reassuring as a parent to see.

I remember they answered someone on twitter about release on other platforms saying that "Steam is TBD, Android and Switah - not planned". So probably they will release it on Steam eventually. Considering that Epic exclisivity contract is normally for 1 year, Steam release will most likely be in June-July 2020.
But there were no official announcements so far. All I wrote is just speculation.

But don't click unless you really, really want to know, because SPOILER SPOILER! ||You need to collect all the scarf fragments/symbols throughout the game. You don't need to do it in the same game save, though. But once you have found them all, you can change to white at the start of a new game in the "hub". There is a little place with fabrics blowing upwards. Step into it and you will change cloak.|| SPOILER ENDS

There is an ending, but there is a lot of replayability in Journey due to multiplayer.
So multiplayer wise I'd say it's closer to session-based games, rather than endless ones like sky.
Like, where you have the same "map" but different players every time.

Btw I think iOS version may also be affected by this connection bug, as it's made by the same team and share the same codebase.
It's just you can't monitor app's network connections on iOS - so no way to check if you had any attempts to conect with other players.

The bug doesn't affect all players though. For some (and I think, most) multiplayer works fine, for some it doesn't. I don't know why. As far as I understand, it mostly depends on what ISP you have.

I finally finished journey like a week ago and I have to say the opposite unfortunately... I was playing on my iPhone so maybe that has a lot to do with it though. It has to be bc I was spoiled by playing sky first bc the graphics, controls and overall gameplay of journey is just not as good as sky. Plus I downloaded it a while back and when I came back to finish it finally it was glitching so bad. This super bright purple pixelated thing was flashing the entire screen every few seconds or every time I’d “call” and I tried resetting my phone closing out of the app but nothing fixed it. But besides the glitches, the movement on foot was wayyy too slow for my taste. Then flying burned too much cape/scarf and didn’t take you that high or move you up and forward far enough for how much it would use up. I felt like I mostly walked the whole way and had to rely on the banners/flying carpets to get anywhere high to explore. Like what’s the point of having a flying cape-scarf if you can’t really go anywhere on your own?
Spoilers ahead - so I thought maybe it’ll be like sky and ||after I finish maybe I’ll be reborn and work my way up to a really long scarf so I can fly higher and further later|| but I don’t know if that’s the case or not. It’s not super clear about it.. or anything really ):

I would agree that console gives a better experience, yes. Having played Journey on PS4 a lot, I found the controls on my phone very clunky. Plus, the screen is tiny. 🤓

I would agree that Journey on iOS is disappointing after playing Sky. The touch-controls were appalling at launch and the graphics were a poor imitation of what is on the ps4. Ice not retried even after the update. I’d much rather play on ps4 with a controller.

Sky was in many ways based on Journey. They share a lot of the same DNA, you could say, but Sky of course was developed to go in a different direction, and though TGC aims to inspire positive emotions in all their games, the purpose of Journey is different. One can’t be considered a copy of the other.

I think my initial opinion of the game would have been different if my first experience had been on a phone. I was fortunate and could play it on the PS3 first, which is what it was developed to play on. It really is too bad though that you had those glitches. Hopefullly Annapurna Interactive keeps pushing updates so that the experience can be smoother for everyone on iOS.

You can tell who you're playing with on the iOS version while you're in-game by going to Game Center > Friends. Companions met along the way at the end also shows the same names.
As far as meeting up, there are many limitations. You have to be on the same platform for one, and there are algorithms about player cloak status and location. There's a Journey wiki that might have all of those details, but I haven't checked.

There are limitations, but it’s definitely possible. I had a someone snipe/find and join a friend the first they played the game, and it was pretty awesome.
Fun fact: An early interview with TGC explained that the difficulty of playing Journey with someone you know was one of the inspirations for setting up the social experience of Sky the way it is

I first played Journey a couple of months ago and I love it. I was not disappointed at all by it, since it's a different experience than Sky. My partner also played with me (on his PC and I was on mine) and only once did we actually run into each other. Other than that, we trekked alone, maybe catching glimpses of one other player before they disappeared. I believe Journey isn't meant to be social, and we both had a bonding and very mysterious experience playing through the game. It has strong visualization, motion and sound design, and it's better appreciated for that masterpiece that it is. Nonetheless, it was beautiful.
Journey and Sky are incredibly similar, but I just think of Sky as a much, much more social version of it with more content, and Journey is simply a wonderful, almost ethereal experience that's meant to be enjoyed in solidarity for all that it is.

I agree with all of that and I'll add that when you do run into someone at the broken bridge (2nd level) and they stay with you all the way to the end of the game, it's something truly unforgettable

@crisp whale Oh man, I definitely agree with this. My partner lost their person after a short while at the end of Journey, and I ran into someone on the way up. It broke my heart seeing them struggle and get hit multiple times by the guardians and not be able to do anything about it. But! they made it and we went into the end together and I was so happy and sad lmao. Their scarf was gone and I just wanted to cry

Journey is a game of self reflection, but Sky is a game of the beauty of social interaction
I still will never know why I always cry at the end of Journey but I see the game as an allegory of the meaning of life
You never see what's on the mountain-- because we dont know the meaning of life, we might not ever know it, but what we can control is how we get to our own mountain
And that's just beautiful to me

Does anyone know, do the graphics scale up to big (55") tv size nicely? It looks ok on my phone but not so much on my mini 4, would the ps4 version look significantly / feel different?

@hot grotto I definitely recommend it on a big screen. I don’t play on PS4 but our monitor 27” for the PC did it incredible justice. Also if you have surround sound, that is a MUST.

It's funny, I remember playing Journey when it was new, maybe on a PC - it was a long time ago! - and not quite getting the hang of it. Then, when I did get a PS4 some years ago, I finally decided to give it a shot again and was immediately smitten.

Also, btw, I think you can get PC version for $5 now. Epic is giving $10 discount on every $15+ game.

Hello, is anyone having issues running Journey on PC? I have alot of lags, even with a good Nvidia Card, and people are saying to deactivate internet connection, but even with that, the game still lag... Help :c

@jaunty grove Journey on PC generally experiences disconnection problems from what I’ve heard. If you have a PS4, I believe the game is much more enjoyable there. I myself play on Mobile.

The game is more CPU than GPU demanding.
Also - not disconnection. On some ISPs in most attempts it doesn't connect at all. But if it does, the connection is usually fine.

If you can get it on console, I would go that route, but if not, the iOS version is still a very worthwhile purchase. I had to fiddle with the settings a little to stop the camera drifting too far when I swipe around, but that was my only complaint (and I fixed it so 🤷♀️).
