I see that iOS Journey adds friend names in Game Center. No other game I have does that. I assumed these names might be companions met along the way, but instead only my own GC profile name was displayed on CMATW.
I wonder too if iOS Journey in iOS 13 will also include the controller support for PS4 and XBox bluetooth controllers.

@green zephyr abzu is beautiful I streamed a full play through of it when it released on pc and at max settings 60+ frames it’s astonishing the attention to detail given to each aquatic life form and the level design was just an upgrade to what we could see in journey however for some reason the impact of journey and the first time I realized I was on that journey with another player it just blew my mind
Abzu is a little more of a solo experience but clearly a more detailed and refined one

Mobile has a problem right now where you can’t chord controls. Like can’t turn and flap at the same time.
I hope that will be patched soon. But otherwise it’s mostly playable.

Is it just me, or does Journey on iOS eat battery and cause overheating (screen dimming) like nothing else? Screen dims after five minutes on my iPhone XR, at least any time 60fps is enabled. Sky on the other hand has no such issue.

I've actually had that same problem with Sky too, I have to play it with my phone plugged in or my phone is dead after an hour or two of playing.
Also: Is there a rundown of the problems with Journey on PC? I was just tabbing in here to ask about mobile vs PC ports of it.
I'm unfortunately not a console person, but I've been having a blast with Sky. I've never played Journey before though, and I'm not sure which version would be better to start with.

Yep its an Epic Exclusive also costs 3x the price of the iOS version and has more bugs and performance issues lol I would go with the iOS version @still stirrup cheaper and better performance but same game both versions look amazing.

I did a full play through took me about 1 hour 50 min to complete and I didn't notice any issues I was using the ipad tho so cannot comment about phone performance

I played through yesterday and the graphics and music is good. I met three other players. I need more time with the controls though, and experimented which side to set them on for best control. Next playthrough I'm going to try some tricks in BB.

None on the ipad its last years mini, PC version I had performance drops and matchmaking issues the difference is the PC port they have put alot of extra graphical options in and its running through Epic's crappy launcher which Im sure is the cause of the matchmaking errors lol

if you have an xbox controller or other game controller, then controls on PC are superior. you can't do any of the flying tricks on mobile, and even simple tricks like faceplant are difficult without a controller.

@molten birch i just literally tried 15 times to get up on that ledge in the rest area of the race. It’s “easy” with a controller on PS4, but on a phone with the forced camera angle and not quite getting the rise and forward movement synced...well, swearing ensued.

I think it goes flOw > Flower > Journey > Sky, as the humans in flower wouldve built the war machines, and then somehow the world would dessert itself (dont ask it just happens), and then the war machines evolve into the krill

Took me a while to get used to the ipad controls for Sky, and since it's the same company I was hoping for same user experience for the Journey port as Sky. If it was the first time I'm introduced to Journey (esp. after Sky), I would not be happy with the game, because of the controls 😦

I'm liking it pretty well compared to the PC version. On my second playthrough I found the controls easier, but I look forward to whatever fiddling they've done in this upcoming patch.

I agree that Journey is very slow compared to Sky. It feels like it was made for meditation more than action, even if there are stressful parts in it also. But your character's movements are very limited and tied to the ground mostly.
I also generally want to play through the whole game in one go, unless I am very tired.
The mobile version unfortunately was too tiring on both the eyes and hands for me to do that.

The camera follows joystick logic so instead of you swiping to move like in sky if you hold down your finger the camera continues to move

I’m ok with the iOS Journey controls for basic play. I doubt we can do much fancy stuff in this version, but I’m going to mess around as a white cloak. Annapurna says they will be releasing a patch will a control update, and that MFi support will be coming with iOS 13

@earnest bear It was originally made for PlayStation, and it works better on PS3/PS4 than iOS or PC. If that’s an option for you, I’d recommend it there, but if not, iOS. I can’t wax poetic enough about how amazing Journey is. Hope you enjoy it no matter what platform you get it on!

@empty crescent it is supposed to work on the iPad. Admittedly, I tried on my iPad Air (1st gen) and it just crashes. There have been no responses from annapurna or anyone else about the problems, and no indication that an update is coming. Such a disspointment.
Controls on iOS are terrible too.

I second this, about Journey on iOS. For a game widely listed as one of the best ever, transcendental and all that, it is a great shame and a great waste. Flickering, overheating, control issues ... and no mention of an update. I have it but can't bear to play in this state. The dire reviews on the App Store are upsetting to see but sadly justified.

As a veteran PS player, I’m pretty happy with the iOS version and have been enjoying playing several times without issues. I haven’t experienced any of the issues described above on my iPad Mini 5. And there have been responses from Annapurna stating an update is coming which will include a controls update.

@cobalt pelican The level select space is the giant crater in the sand right before you watch your first cutscene. The little alcoves in the buildings around the edge take you to the levels.

Annapurna have been completely unresponsive to my attempts to solve this and other problems. I’ve removed the app and have resolved to just play on the PS4. For me it either refused to start on our iPad Air, or the controls and graphics were so bad that they ruined what should be a beautiful experience.

I'm really enjoying playing Journey on my iPad Mini 5. I have the PS4 and PC versions too, but it's so nice to cozy up and play on the iPad.
I've had no issues with the controls once I got used to them or the graphics.
And Annapurna says there's a patch coming out that will update the controls (and other things).
I think don't let one player's opinion dissuade you.

I haven’t had crashing, and I’ve fixed the camera panning too far when looking around by upping the FPS to 50 and resolution to max. It doesn’t drift anything like as much as it did on default. (Iphone 8plus).
I haven’t played through the whole thing. Got as far as tower before realising I needed to find more icons. My scarf, once it had been narfed by the monster, only had 3 icons so my flight power was abysmal. Started over and I’m only in level 2 or 3 and my scarf is LONG! 😂

So, I wanted to say a virtual thanks to the ||white cape|| companion that came along as had entered the lair of the dragons today. ||I did not know, but white caped companions can blast the dragons away! The funny thing was, s/he came in, blasted the dragons and left. I didn't realised what s/hed done until I reached the end of that area!|| Who ever you are, thank you.

Earlier in the area s/he would immediately approach the dragons and be attacked. I thought it odd but didn’t take enough notice. I was too busy running and hiding.

Digital Foundry did an analysis of the various ports and found that each time it was ported there were very different rendering choices made for each version. By their estimation the original PS3 version had the best combination of all the graphical upsides and downsides still to this day.

One of my best playthroughs I met someone who taught me new ways to jump and took me to some breath-takingly beautiful OOB areas. But even without going to special areas, the experience of playing the game and traveling with a companion can be incredibly moving

I think you also need to be on the same type of device for it to work, so you can't play PC and join a friend who is on PS4
but mobile should be the same

Yes, there's no cross-play between different Journey versions. PS4 only plays with PS4, PC only plays with PC, etc.

another major difference is that on mobile you see your companions in Game Center, but in the console version you see them at the end of the credits
so it's more difficult to know who were your companions on mobile

I am a complete newbie. I didn’t complete the first run through and started a new one since I understood better what I was supposed to do. (I didn’t have the scarf length to get the heights required in the tower in the first run through). It got snarfed by the ||monster|| too.

@viral sphinx You don't have to have long scarf to complete the tower level. There are flying cloth, which can be activated with long chirp, everywhere where you need to fly.

Thank you! Took me a level or two to figure out I could just long chirp to activate those. Spent the first few times trying to walk along the fabric to light it up. 😂
Are there those in the tower too? I got round several platforms but reached a point where I’d keep falling down and couldn’t reach to activate the next icon to get the ground level to rise. Hope that makes sense... @cunning sail
