You get 1 heart per every seasonal spirit tree you complete (so you need the pass). Then you use the hearts to unlock the ultimate season cosmetic.
To unlock it you need 6 hearts, so you need to complete ALL the spirits tree

Since spirits are released weekly, there had to be at least one day where that particular gate was un-passable and there were seasonal candles there. I think tgc left the other door open on purpose so we could still collect candles.
