I don't think that's possible, the mods don't usually know about things that Vedal hasn't decided on yet, the third game jam happening depends on him remembering that he got humilliated last year for submitting a broken game, and that can happen in a random day during the subatton I think.
That's sheep mentality, but we could let them decided on 1 asset from their game to be the direction I guess.

personally I'd still prefer an early January date, so both the game jam and the rating period is comfortably outside the holidays

I usually spend the end of year with family, so jamming tends to be a bit awkward

from what I can tell, this is the most valid point. A half of people are indifferent on it judging on poll results. So it makes sense to pick something logical.

we are stalling till 26th anyways to cover most votes
so it is unwise to start on same day without giving prep time, so either the 29th or 2nd. I'd lean to the 2nd to be firmly out of celebration range personally.

Hi guys, I wanted to ask the legality of recreating neuro's tarot card readings into an android app as I wanted to do tarot card readings for myself while she was streaming because theoretically none of the art is done by me and the concept was also plagiarised from her stream. Furthermore, this is my first unity project.
something you keep to yourself should be fine but taking the art from artists isnt that good unless you have permission, it gets worse if the app is uploaded to some appstore, best to try getting an artist or becoming one yourself
since neuro is an ip form vedal you'd have to get his permission
alongside the artsts' persmissons
either that or you'd have to pay for a lisence to use the neuro brand or whatever
for the neuro ip you'd probably have to ask vedal via business enquiries

i had to ask captain's (aquwa) perms to be able to make a video game so i was able to make it but right now its still in development hell

I was literally away from my computer for the entire duration of the jam.
So instead I did a little bit of work on making my godot art program work on my phone

Using godot on my phone is a bit silly
This is the gamedev equivalent of blowing a kiss to god as you moonwalk into hell. I respect you
It barely usable in its current state, sometimes the undos break the entire script and you have to reload to get it back and lose the progress you made...
at least in 4.6 you will be able to hide the debugger supposedly.
I wonder if it'd behave better with trying to hit Ctrl-Z? I still daily drive hacker's keyboard because it has a functional ctrl key

I'm brand new to unity development
working on a project and I wanna add a melee attack of some kind
was going to just use a collider (or many) to make a weapon hit area which would detect the presence of an enemy when the player attacks
I thought I'd ask if there's a better way to do this though, or if there's any considerations to be made here
iirc unity has collision objects called triggers? I believe that's what you want to be using but I haven't used unity in ages so someone else would probably be more of a help
depending on your specific use case you could also get away with raycasts, but otherwise as simple of a collision shape as possible is usually the way to go
just manage your collision layers well, and you usually want to inflate player attack hitboxes just a little so they feel more responsive,,
but again, someone who uses unity will be more helpful with the specifics!!
Parent the box trigger/collision to the damaging part of the weapon mesh, key frame the points you want to be able to damage things and tie them to a boolean on collision checks, make sure it cant collide with the same target multiple times, and make sure it cant collide with the player
There's a lot of ways to do this but as brine said I think the best way is to use a collider, then select "trigger" on it so it works as a hitbox and when you're attacking, check if there's an enemy currently colliding in the moment of attack
And then you can add some other stuff like pushing the enemy back and dealing damage and whatnot on hit

yeah this was kinda the plan, and it seemed reasonable, I'm just not sure about the unity specifics of which components to use, how to lay them out etc
You'll learn it over time and you can always improve it as you get better, but usually just doing a box collider for 3D or box collider 2D for 2D stuff works fine
something I'm wondering about in particular right now is different weapon types
they will almost certainly have different collider shapes or sizes
does it make sense to have every weapon collider always on every character and then just use the one I need
or should I be dynamically adding/removing them when weapons are equipped for some kind of performance gain
That can work - you can create a gameobject structure in the heirarchy where a characterWeapons transform holding all the weapons as children is a prefab and a child element to the character itself for example (and then you can have the same prefab on each character)
Alternatively you can Instantiate (spawn) the specific model for the current weapon type with its colliders.
This stuff shouldn't majorly affect performance too much unless you have a ton of weapons / tons of characters / spawning stuff constantly. Overall don't think about performance as a beginner, I suggest you run head first into a wall and when stuff becomes slow you learn about performance and optimization xd

ULTRAKILL is a big inspiration for NERE anyhow

you should look at the stuff I have posted in NERE's project thread, movement is smooth as butter (may need to touch up wallrunning though).

maybe restart unity editor? when i was making games in unity few years ago, you could look at editor wrong and it would fail/crash lol
You can write a script to catch any errors that are posted into the editor while you're building
But often they can happen if you have a class that has using UnityEditor outside the Editor folder for example

is there anything I need to know about spawning? for some reason I cannot comprehend, something I'm spawning will occasionally not render its sprite
the sprite is set according to the inspector, and the component is enabled, yet it's entirely invisible
I've tried reenabling the component, changing the draw order, etc. but nothing seems to resolve the issue
it also happens inconsistently
as an addendum to the above, I thought it'd be useful to mention that the sprite will show in about 10% of spawns and be invisible for the remaining 90%
and I have only seen it show successfully when the spawn was called from Update, never from FixedUpdate or LateUpdate
that doesn't mean it can't show when called from those functions given the apparent probabilistic nature of the issue, but it might give a starting point for debugging
I don't use unity that much but that sounds like a timing issue.
I would try to set the sprite every step, to see what happens.

unless the inspector is lying
I've even tried changing the sprite to something else in the inspector while the game is running
to no avail

Since I don't really use Unity, all I can really recommend is to follow a tutorial and see if you run into the same issue. If you don't you might be able to see where you went wrong.

Me when you paste the least scary looking error msg after you say this.
since I donโt know where in your code this error is coming from I canโt really you help that much. but that last part to the error message is telling you the what the problem is, you are trying to get data from something that is (at the time of requesting this data) a null object because it hasnโt been given an instance and therefore doesnโt have any data.

a unity plugin from 2018 had a bad directory structure


bricked the entire build pipeline by not putting a scriptable object in an Editor folder

Ive made it more manageable for myself at least

Surely some of these are easy to add while on my phone.
Anything is possible as long as sanity is not a factor 
I added the layer dragging
(to replace the layer swapping that I removed). It will probably break completely if/when I add layer groups
It also showed me how much I need to update my palette ui, as it has basically the same features but the way I update the ui is quite different.(and also I discovered a new container type that I should have been using)
Exporting drawings is also done,
I think. Going between my file system and Godot sometimes causes Godot to refresh and by extension close the art program and the file is not actually saved. However Im pretty sure this is only an issue because Iโm on my phone, and it would probably be fixed if the program was actually exported outside of godot.
Surely this is the easy way to add drawing groups and layer groups

Surely I can just use the tree ui node for testing the drawing groups for now.
Or I have to find a way to try and have it look nice by adding or removing children from the grid container of drawings based on if a branch is opened or not.
Removing children is always good.
I have it to the point where the base system is working and I have drawing groups
. I now just have to figure out how to move my drawings around nicely to make new groups/add or remove drawings from a group. Easy

Im finally back to my computer

Surely now that I'm on my computer I can bug fix and make a clean implementation of drawing groups.
I was able to implement it,
now the next thing I should work on is having the data not all be saved on a single file
(if it crashes while saving I lose all the drawings I made
).
it does feel nice when you optimise your game and it doesn't regularly drop from 165 FPS to below 80 FPS anymore
there are 2 types of git commits:
change value from 1.1 to 1.09added 32 classes, 4203 LoC and 263 functions
Real, I try to do a commit everytime I change how something works so it feels like im actually doing something, but I cant make commits while im working on my phone

yipee, after failing to submit my projects to the last two jams i joined, I finally made another game for brackeys gamejam 
The drawings are no longer a single file
, I also dont store the image in the file like 4 different times anymore
(can someone explain why storing an 8k by 11k image in a resource file takes 512mb but storing it as a png is 31mb
) anyways I store them as a folder of pngs now
quickest answer without technical stuff, different compression methods. 512mb is pretty close to completely uncompressed so it can just load in. PNG is a compressed form, so it doesn't have to store as much.

I mean I figured on that last part considering how sad my phone gets when trying to open that image in the art program.
Though I wonder how the photos app can handle it
