The quality of translation
I went back to today's stream and now I think the translation is better than traditional machine translations. All sentences make sense and no major translation errors. It also seems to have a good sense of context and choose words coherently. I've read nothing but approval on Chinese internet so far. The only suggestion I have is the tone is formal and could be more oral/informal to fit neuro.
Obviously I don't think it is at the level of human translators. For example, it maintains the order of words in English instead of restructuring into more natural flows. And it fails at certain internet lingos (like based, bits). But I'd say it's at a level where clippers can just clip and don't have to translate. -
Twitch emotes are not rendered in Chinese subtitles. So occasionally it's missing context like GIGANEURO.

Sometimes Evil is not recognized as a name and gets translated

font
Vedal said he is using Source Han Sans-VF already, so I looked into what could be wrong. One thing is he's using ExtraLight weight and then adding thickness. Regular/Heavy weight might look better. I personally like Heavy.
Another thing is that some characters are shared by Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese, but with subtle differences. It is worth checking that you have the right characters. I caught a case where it's using JP kanji. At 1:13:27 neuro tried to say 门 but subtitle rendered a JP unicode (Fig. 1). This might also explain why all characters feel squished vertically. There are other characters you can check. See the official readme here. https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-han-sans/raw/release/SourceHanSansReadMe.pdf
In case you don't want to deal with this unicode shenanigans, consider using a language or region subset like Source Han Sans SC or CN. -
A minor issue with punctuation. (Fig. 2) The decimal marks are correct in the first two numbers but became a period in the third.

That's great, thanks, and I hope you'll check out my post

For the font, I think we should use Source Han Sans CN Heavy
like these, often used in Neuro Chinese clips
for neuro: RGB(251,233,210)
for vedal: RGB(87,210,109)
evil's
text border color RGB(179, 43, 59)
or like these
thank you this stuff is super helpful i will fix this stuff! I think I can make the translations even better
Also for the color of the characters or outlines, do you plan to change it to this beige color or keep the pink
Because I think the beige color suits Neuro the best
yeah
so choose one of the two styles
You'll have to wait until Vedal returns
Not sure is it intended or not, but personally I really don't like the idea of translating "Emote", as Emotes are literally image/video, why are we trying to translate image/video?
Also there are a lots of Emotes that are not real word and can't explain what it means, For example: "Corpa"
In this screenshot, while EN side showing "Corpa" (the emote), CN side is translating the word "Corpa" into 「剝削」, which means "exploit" (to use someone or something unfairly for your own advantage)
In this context it "kinda" make sense, but can we actually just represent the word "Corpa" as "exploit" without saying Corpa might also means 10 billions other different meaning?
Also in this case, the Japanese Romaji "shikanoko" thing is considered as Chinese "PinYin" (basically same concept to romaji, using Latin to write how the word should be pronounced)
So the outcome result of the Chinese translation is completely wrong. (translator just think the Romaji is PinYin but those Latin words in PinYin can not form a coherent sentence)
Might want to be careful that Chinese Pinyin won't occur that much.
Yes, usually Chinese pinyin is not too long
like cheng feng po lang 乘风破浪(brave the wind and waves)
Pinyin for a single word has a maximum of six letters
like 庄 zhuang
Also I want to ask about what kind of thing you want to know?
I think it's fair that you may not know what you want to know. (I have no idea what I just typed but I think you get what I mean)
But if we are talking about the overall performance, its already done. (Top comment)
I just want to know is there any specific problem you are facing in the Chinese Translation thing so we can have a problem to solve.
Or else currently the only thing I can think of is to review the whole stream, "correcting" every single sentences said on stream, and point out every single "mistake".
I don't think it helps a lot so I didn't try to do it yet, but if it can actually help a lot I'm down to do it.
Yes, maybe we need to do more pre-processing before we hand the text over to AI for translation, so that we can decide together
And about the "Formal tone" I think we need to see how the translation is done in Collab. Because I think how Neuro speak is actually quite formal 99% of the time.
Personally I don't feel weird about "tone" at all, maybe its also because Neuro's monotone voice + being an AI that makes me think all the Chinese Translation make sense in tone.
switching fonts
also shouldn't translate evil asmuch, and I will include emotes too
yo it's pretty good
Also for the displaying of chat in the bilibili stream. I have ran a crawler program during yesterday's stream, and found out the top word is on stream gacha keywords (yes bilibili has on stream gacha system and idk why).
I suggest to block it so the actual chat can be seen.
老板大气 红包抽礼物 are the keywords.
here is the analystic of yesterday's stream. Bigger font means more frequent
Looking forward to today's song streaming!!!
Bilibili viewers can choose their own blocked keywords, and yesterday was a special period I think, today might be better. (perhaps it is related to Bilibili's promotional mechanism.")
On Bilibili, sending large gifts trigger gacha.Yesterday, Neuro received a lot of gifts.
no what I meant is the section where vedal displays bilibli chat. It is non-filtered as for yesterday's stream.
yeh,It is necessary to filter the scrolling chat on the screen. It affects the viewing experience.
If we want to provide interaction for Bilibili viewers, this is a very good filtering form.
I mean, filter out low-quality barrage
There is a translation problem when it comes to famous quotes
It translated as "exist and nothingness" which is wrong
Hi Vedal, I'm back with more feedbacks from the karaoke stream.
- When neuro starts singing, the transition into wider aspect ratio cuts off the song name subtitle. The English sub has the same issue, but it's more obvious in Chinese
- The translation now gets "based" right

- Embedding emotes works sometimes. Here are a few instances it failed
0:26:08 failed to render EDM
0:28:20 the first neuroSoCute stopped moving after the second neuroSoCute rendered
There are a few other cases but I assume it's the same issue as EDM - There are a few proper nouns that you may want to hard code the correct translation. Bits are occasionally translated as bitcoins. Sisters is another special case. Older sister is 姐姐, younger sister is 妹妹, and sisters is 姐妹. The translator may need some context for this
- There was one instance where your translation AI's response wasn't parsed correctly
Look at the highlighted message at 1:06:43 - The bilibili chat on screen needs some attention on your side. Right now it's just spamming donations and raffles, so it's very hard to see actual chat. I believe there are a few specific phrases you can filter out. It is also delayed by several minutes. And the font is a little too small to read.
- There were a few instances where translations came out in a weird order. At 0:27:04 on the chill stream, neuro said
Evil is currently hiding out in the dark web, after some... incidents. I'll be sure to tell her you were asking about her.
I wouldn't go visiting the dark web if I were you.
The translation came out as
(nothing) incidents. I'll be sure to tell her you were asking about her.
Evil is currently hiding out in the dark web, after some... I wouldn't go visiting the dark web if I were you.
BTW font looks great and a lot of people like the translation. Thank you for the effort!
